Chapter Seven
The news of the wedding cancellation quickly spread among friends and family. I notified the Wedding Planning Company early in the morning to halt all preparations. The beautiful decorations, the carefully selected flowers, and arrangements had all turned into a mere illusion. I knew this decision would surprise many and even disappoint some, but I had no other choice.
I sat in the empty room, reflecting on the months of preparation that had gone into this wedding. From choosing the wedding dress to finalizing the guest list, I had poured my heart into every detail, but now everything had turned to dust. What should have been moments filled with laughter and joy were now replaced by an endless silence.
My phone buzzed incessantly with messages and calls from friends and family, but I felt too weary to respond. Each message felt like a knife, reminding me of this failed relationship and the shattered future ahead. All I wanted was to stay quiet in this space, away from all the noise and questions.
Suddenly, my phone vibrated again; it was a message from him: "Can we talk again? I don’t want to give up just like that."
I stared at the words on the screen, feeling a swirl of complex emotions within me. I knew he was reluctant to let go, unwilling to allow our relationship to end like this. But at that moment, I also understood that I couldn’t provide him with any clear answer.
After a moment of hesitation, I finally replied, "I need time; let’s talk when I’ve figured things out."
Once I sent the message, I felt a slight relief wash over me, but it was quickly followed by a deeper sense of loss. Our relationship had been torn apart, like a piece of fabric that could never be mended without leaving scars.
In the days that followed, I tried to avoid contact with the outside world, hiding in my little bubble as I sought to calm my emotions. I silenced his number and deleted all wedding-related posts from social media in an attempt to forget this entire existence.
Yet even then, when night fell, memories of him refused to fade away. His smile, his tenderness, his care constantly reminded me of how deeply I had once loved this man.
One late night, I finally mustered the courage to reread that letter. The words pierced my heart once more, but this time, I no longer felt despair as before. I began to realize that no matter what had happened between him and "L," I could no longer allow the shadows of the past to control my life.
He chose me; despite having another woman in his heart at one point, he ultimately chose to spend his life with me. Now it was up to me to decide whether I could accept all of this and whether I could continue down this path with him.
I started reminiscing about our beautiful moments together—the laughter and those warm instances. Although there had been arguments and misunderstandings, there was still more happiness and love than anything else. Perhaps it was precisely because I loved so deeply that discovering the truth caused me such pain.
I don't know what the future holds, but I know that no matter what, I need to find myself first and reclaim the independent and confident person I once was.
At that moment, my phone lit up again with a message from him: "I will wait for you, no matter how long it takes."
As I read the message, tears streamed down my face uncontrollably. Perhaps he is truly working for our future, perhaps he genuinely wants to salvage everything.
But for now, I can only give myself time.
I decided to distance myself from everything in the coming days, to go somewhere no one knows me, and temporarily set aside all my worries and pain. I need a fresh start, an opportunity to rediscover and confront my emotions.
I packed my bags and prepared to leave this city in search of the answers that belong to me.
