Seeing Mao Na's change in expression, Hu Ruoyun suddenly remembered that she had been busy with Cui Shuigen and hadn't visited her at school for several weeks. Feeling guilty, she hurried after her to apologize.
One walked ahead, fuming, while the other trailed behind, trying to explain. "Don't be mad! I've been busy working with Cui Shuigen on a little venture... We made some money..."
Mao Na waved Hu Ruoyun's hand away. "You keep making your money. I have nothing to do anyway. I'm just fine watching you from here, so I'm going back..."

Hu Ruoyun replied, "But this isn't sustainable. Once this deal is done, we won't be able to do it again. Many vendors traced back to the source of supply; we won't have any business after this."
Suddenly recalling Jie Bing's words, Mao Na asked worriedly, "What did your classmate say about the counselor wanting to talk to you? You might get in trouble! What will you do if you get a demerit before even finishing your first year?"
Hu Ruoyun thought for a moment. "Was it Jie Bing who said that? It's fine. The counselor already talked to me. I explained everything to him, and Teacher Zhou also checked with the student responsible for attendance. Neither Cui Shuigen nor I skipped any classes. Some students from other departments who followed us did skip classes, but we stopped them... Teacher Zhou didn't criticize us; instead, he wants to report our work-study efforts to the student office as a positive example and even said he would help Cui Shuigen apply for financial aid."
Mao Na frowned. "That boy is Jie Bing! He looks so clean-cut and scholarly; why does he have so many issues?"
Hu Ruoyun replied, "He has always had a sense of superiority. His exam scores were average last time, which seems to have thrown him off balance. We don't have any conflicts with him; just ignore him."
As one problem was resolved, another arose. In the far corner of the playground, Mao Na suddenly grabbed Hu Ruoyun by the ear. "You better tell me honestly—have you been getting close with Zhang Meina during this time?"
Hu Ruoyun tilted his head and raised his hand in a vow. "Sister, I swear on my conscience—I haven't even met her yet!"
Mao Na released her grip and scolded him lightly. "Remember this: you must check in at our school every Saturday or Sunday from now on; otherwise... hmph!"
Hu Ruoyun quickly agreed, "Yes, Mao Gege!"
They had lunch together and spent the afternoon shopping leisurely. With his newly earned money, Hu Ruoyun bought a bag for Mao Na. Seeing how much she liked it made him ask the shopkeeper for another one just like it.
Mao Na was puzzled. "What are you doing? Even if I like it, I don't need to buy two at once."
Hu Ruoyun, while having the shop assistant wrap up the items, replied, "I'm getting one for my mother-in-law too."
Mao Na didn't say anything further, but she felt quite happy inside.
As Hu Ruoyun accompanied Mao Na to the bus stop on University Road, she resumed her composed and polite demeanor. "I was just joking; you don’t have to come find me every week. I’ve been wondering if you’ve had any health issues or if you’ve rekindled things with Zhang Meina... It’s been a bit chaotic in my mind."
Hu Ruoyun smiled playfully, wrapping his arm around her waist and whispering in her ear, "If you're really worried, why not just claim me sometime..."
The warm breath against Mao Na's ear made her heart race. Hearing his flirtatious words caused her face to flush red. She pulled away and playfully scratched at Hu Ruoyun with her fingers.
Just then, a bus pulled up, and as Mao Na and Hu Ruoyun waved goodbye, two people stepped off from the back door. One of them called out, "Hu Ruoyun!"
Mao Na paused mid-step and turned around to see Zhang Meina holding hands with a tall, handsome young man, both of them smiling at the pair.
Seeing Zhang Meina and the handsome guy holding hands made Mao Na feel a sudden sense of relief. She smiled back and greeted Zhang Meina, "Hello, Meina!"
Zhang Meina introduced the young man beside her. "Sister Mao, this is my boyfriend Li Yingjie. He’s also from Annan and two years ahead of us. He’s in his third year at Jiangbei University in the Business Administration College... class president and chairman of the student council..." Her voice brimmed with pride.
Then she introduced Li Yingjie to Hu Ruoyun. "This is Hu Ruoyun, who was specially recruited from Eight Middle School in Annan. And this is his girlfriend Sister Mona; her father is our county's Vice County Head Mao Weiguo!"
At first, Li Yingjie appeared reserved, but after Zhang Meina finished introducing him, his expression brightened. He shook hands with Hu Ruoyun first. "I've heard about your achievements back home!" Then he turned to Mao Na and shook her hand as well. "My dad is the deputy Town Chief Li Mingqing from Pingbei Township. We've been wanting to report some work to County Chief Mao...
