Zheng Mengni found it strange that she could tolerate Zheng Yicheng after being compared to Tan Yan all day.
Tan Yan remained silent, still pondering and analyzing Zheng Mengni's earlier words. Afterward, he ordered someone to keep an eye on Gao Lei. Logically, Zheng Mengni should not know what he had done at this moment, nor would she blame him for Gao Lei's feelings. So, what exactly had annoyed her?
Tan Yan calmly asked, "You want to see him and not me, so you dislike me taking your friend's place without permission, right?"
Zheng Mengni shook her head slowly, "I dislike everything about you; it has nothing to do with who came here today."
"Anyone else is no different, right?"
Zheng Mengni smiled slightly, "There is a difference. Don't you know my preferences? If it were someone else, I might feel a bit guilty, but for you, I should be able to act more decisively."
Tan Yan sat relaxed, quietly observing Zheng Mengni's face. He discerned all the emotions in her eyes and confirmed she was speaking the truth before he casually smiled. His smile was exceptionally charming, causing Zheng Mengni to avert her gaze to avoid adding to her frustration.
She could hear Tan Yan's soft and soothing voice spreading in her ears. He said, "Shall we give it a try?"
Zheng Mengni replied with a firm no. "As you said, let's see if you're more ruthless with me."
Tan Yan slightly tilted his head back; the smooth line of his fair neck was strikingly beautiful, even the shape of his Adam's apple was appealing.
Zheng Mengni found herself momentarily distracted. He exposed his vulnerable side openly before her, as if saying: "As long as it's you, you can do anything to me."
Zheng Mengni chuckled lightly, "Didn't Gao Lei tell you? I tend to go a bit crazy when I'm in a bad mood. It's quite coincidental that today is the day I'm most annoyed and also the day I dislike you the most."
Tan Yan blinked and replied, "Got it, Xiao Ni dislikes me."
No sooner had he finished speaking than a pair of delicate hands fiercely grasped his neck.
Tan Yan was forced to lean back, while Zheng Mengni knelt between his legs, expressionless as she deprived him of all air. She held nothing back.
In her mind, she even fantasized about how Zheng Yicheng would react if she were to strangle Tan Yan to death. She didn’t want an arranged marriage! She refused to be used as a negative example to bolster someone else's prestige! Enough was enough.
Zheng Mengni's eyes grew vacant, gradually losing focus. Yet, despite being on the brink of suffocation from her grip, Tan Yan remained surprisingly calm. If not for the painful veins bulging on his forehead and his face turning a deep shade of purple, one might think it was Zheng Mengni who was being choked.
Zheng Mengni silently sobbed, her beautiful eyes spilling tears that fell like raindrops onto Tan Yan's impassive face. He had never seen anyone's tears flow so freely, so coldly. The anger born from his own grievances was completely extinguished by her tears.
Tan Yan didn’t want to see Zheng Mengni cry; he believed that anyone who made her shed tears was unforgivable. Yet now, having brought her to tears, he could not simply atone with death. He needed to soothe her.
As he neared the point of suffocation, he effortlessly removed one of Zheng Mengni's hands from his throat and grasped her clenched fist. With his other hand, he cupped the back of her head and pressed her down.
As their faces drew closer, Tan Yan gave Zheng Mengni no chance to react or refuse; without hesitation, he captured her lips, swallowing all her whimpers and cries. The air she had stolen from him moments ago, he now sought to reclaim slowly, kissing her patiently.
The towel had fallen to the floor at some point; fearing she might catch a chill, Tan Yan pulled the slippery figure into his embrace with force. She felt like a puddle of water, gently flowing into him.
When the realization hit her that something was wrong, Zheng Mengni wanted to push him away, but it was too late; the heat radiating from this body frightened her.
Zheng Yicheng's cold voice echoed in her mind, "Tan Yan has never been a source of worry for anyone. I remember his grades since middle school—he has never once ranked lower than first. I don’t expect you to be as outstanding as him; I just hope you won’t continue to disappoint me. Otherwise, I truly don’t know what to do with you."
For a brief moment, as her consciousness returned, she understood. Yes, she wanted to strangle this detestable person.
Zheng Mengni looked at Tan Yan's open collar and his fair skin tinged with a hint of pink. What was happening now?
Her hands gripped Tan Yan's neck again, but she found herself unable to exert any strength. Sitting on his lap, her limbs grew weaker by the second.
Zheng Mengni gazed at Tan Yan's tear-streaked face, all the marks left by her own doing. Her awareness sharpened, yet her heart grew colder.
Tan Yan's previously calm demeanor was crumbling; it seemed that all it would take was a single trigger to shatter his defenses completely.
