The phone call was undoubtedly a devastating blow for Wei Jingxi—Wei Nanxuan's affair partner was pregnant. With his class-conscious mindset, he could hardly fathom that such a thing could happen to him.

Wei Jingxi fought the urge to throw his phone against the wall. He hung up, his face dark with fury.
Zheng Mengni softly asked, "What happened? Are you okay?"
Wei Jingxi opened his mouth as if to say something but swallowed his words with great effort. Family shame should not be aired in public, especially in front of the girl he cherished. His pride would not allow him to expose such ugly, dark, and ridiculous matters to Zheng Mengni.
His fists were clenched tightly, the veins on the back of his hands bulging and throbbing. His unfocused gaze fell painfully on Zheng Mengni's face; his heart felt like a sailboat lost at sea, overturned by raging waves, unable to find a safe harbor.
"Wei Jingxi?"
Zheng Mengni sensed something was wrong and moved closer to sit beside him. The man's hands were cold—not from prolonged exposure to air conditioning but from an inner chill that pierced through him.
As soon as she grasped Wei Jingxi's hand, he pulled her into an embrace. His dull mind felt as if it were being pricked by countless needles at once; he was cold and in pain. Unconsciously, he held her tighter, desperately trying to absorb her warmth.
He said nothing, leaning against Zheng Mengni's delicate shoulder, inhaling her sweet scent. The sharp pain in his head slowly transformed into numbness. Wei Jingxi raised his hand to rub his eyes, feeling another wave of pain that threatened to blind him.
After a long moment, he was sure he could smile again, so he released Zheng Mengni, creating a little distance between them as they silently locked eyes. Earlier, he had been irritated by a fool who chose the worst time to call and annoy him. He felt that the call interrupted his date, and his mouth itched to curse someone out. Wei Jingxi began to explain.
Feigning helplessness, he said, "Honestly, I really wanted to curse him out. But since you won’t let me, I held it in and restrained myself."
Zheng Mengni slightly raised her eyes, her cherry blossom-like soft lips curving into a perfect arc. She reached out and pinched Wei Jingxi's cheek, praising him, "Well done."
The exquisitely arranged dishes were served one after another. The waiter nervously glanced at Wei Jingxi and said, "Sir, there’s a problem with the last dish; we need you to take a look at it personally."
Wei Jingxi stood up in response. Normally, he would have started cursing and mocking the restaurant for their poor service. Meanwhile, Zheng Mengni delicately savored her appetizer, casting a contented glance at Wei Jingxi's retreating figure.
A professional band hired from abroad had already begun performing when they placed their orders. At that moment, the music abruptly came to a halt.
