Zheng Mengni sensed Wei Jingxi's emotions were on the verge of exploding. She didn't want him to lose his temper in public, especially over a meaningless argument with a stranger, which would be quite embarrassing.
"Let's buy an umbrella first," she suggested, pulling at Wei Jingxi. "We’ll get sunburned if we stay out here much longer."
Wei Jingxi remained calm in front of Zheng Mengni. "You go ahead; I’ll wait in line. It's too sunny here. You can rest in the shade for a bit."
"I don't want to play this game anymore. After we buy the umbrella, let’s go somewhere else." Noticing Wei Jingxi hesitating, Zheng Mengni directly took his hand and playfully urged, "Come on!"
Wei Jingxi stared blankly at the hand that was being held, feeling lost, like a puppet on strings. He followed wherever Zheng Mengni led him.
Unbeknownst to them, after they left, Ye Bing stepped into the spot where they had been standing, enjoying an ice cream.
"Glasses Man," also known as Ye Siqian, widened his eyes in surprise. "Sister, why didn’t you buy mine? I’ve been standing here in this heat!"
Ye Bing continued to savor her ice cream and mumbled back, "You didn’t tell me you wanted some."
Ye Siqian was the younger brother of the Original Female Lead, though they shared no blood relation. In fact, he had no blood ties to Zheng Mengni either, as he was an orphan entrusted to the Ye Family before Qi Li's time.
The Ye Family was already struggling financially and had been contemplating sending Ye Bing, their adopted daughter whom they had taken in secretly, to an orphanage. After eight years of raising her, they felt they had paid their dues for taking her in under false pretenses.
They were too poor to even consider swapping their own daughter for a wealthy family's child. Such selfish and dark-hearted individuals had no desire to raise a burden like Ye Bing.
The darker their hearts grew, the more they put on a facade of kindness. Surprisingly, due to their need to maintain appearances, the family upstairs mistakenly believed them to be benevolent people. Before passing away, they entrusted their son to the Ye Family and even allowed him to take their surname.
The Ye Family couldn’t refuse and took Ye Siqian in for two years out of pride. Only after ensuring their public image was intact did they send both children off together to the orphanage.
Now, here were the siblings—no, brothers—who appeared because Ye Bing still had some money left from her lottery winnings and decided to take this foolish boy into town for some spending.
To her dismay, this clueless boy didn’t even know how to spend money properly; he insisted on going to an amusement park instead. Ye Bing wanted to treat him lavishly but found herself wondering where all the money was going.
Fortunately, this amusement park was internationally renowned with high prices; even a single ice cream cost fifty.
"Host, host, I've detected that an important character from the novel is nearby!"
Ye Bing was enjoying his ice cream when A Qi suddenly shouted, startling him so much that the ice cream slipped from his fingers and fell to the ground.
Ye Siqian stared in disbelief. "Sister! How could you waste it like that! Do you know that it costs as much as my food expenses for a week?" He gazed at the ruined ice cream, now a puddle on the ground.
Three...
Two...
Suddenly, Ye Siqian bent down with lightning speed and picked up the ice cream.
In less than three seconds, although half of it was ruined, the other half was still edible. Ye Siqian thought to himself how great it was, unaware that Ye Bing had slapped his hand away.
Ye Bing looked at him with a ghostly expression. "Brother, I call you brother, but this is too much. Really too much."
Having lived a life of luxury as a rich young master, this was Ye Bing's first experience of being poor, and it truly opened his eyes.
"You—" Before he could finish his sentence, Ye Bing covered his mouth and forcefully dragged him away.
Heaven knows, if he had known earlier, he would have bought it for him. But since he had always been the one others catered to and flattered, relying on others to do everything for him, Ye Bing had indeed never run errands for anyone before.
