Wei Jingxi did not lift his head, his gaze still fixed on the screen, his lazy tone laced with heavy sarcasm.
"I'll go urge them," the assistant quickly said.
He felt helpless; the young master’s meals were beyond his control.
Suddenly, Wei Jingxi smiled slightly, "Alright, just wait in the kitchen. No need to rush them."
Zheng Mengni proactively sent a message asking if he had eaten.
At least she had a conscience; she had learned to care about him.
The corners of Wei Jingxi's mouth curved up a bit more than he intended, but the irritation that had been etched between his brows hadn’t dissipated yet. Coupled with this smile, it made the assistant feel a bit unnerved.
Not daring to delay any longer, he hurried out to urge the kitchen to speed things up; otherwise, if the young master got too hungry and went on a rampage, it would only be him who suffered.
Before he could step out, a cold voice came from behind him.
Wei Jingxi said, "Let them take their time. No rush; the slower, the better."
The assistant shivered and stammered, "Got it."
It was sarcasm; it had to be sarcasm.
Wasn’t he just pointing out that they were too slow?
After Wei Jingxi finished speaking, he continued typing a reply to Zheng Mengni: "I haven't eaten. You don't know how slow the kitchen is at making food. I'm about to faint from hunger; at this rate, I’ll have to wait at least another hour or two. I’m already in pain and annoyed as it is; now this on top of it."
Sure enough, Zheng Mengni replied in her exaggerated tone: "Oh no! How could this happen? If I had known, I wouldn’t have eaten lunch either; I’d suffer with you! (Crying) (Crying)"
Wei Jingxi pursed his lips and muttered under his breath, "You’re something else, Zheng Mengni. Trying to make me all mushy every day; you never used to be like this."
Just as he was typing, the door was suddenly pushed open with a loud crash.
Wei Jingxi frowned but didn’t look up, continuing to type while cursing under his breath, "Are you crazy?"
As soon as he finished speaking, a figure strode toward him and snatched the phone away, throwing it onto the bed.
The phone hit Wei Jingxi’s thigh bone; his first reaction wasn’t pain but that he hadn’t sent the message yet.
Bending down to retrieve it, he felt his collar being yanked forcefully. He was compelled to lift his face and impatiently cursed, "Do you want to die?"
Before he could finish that last syllable, he received a slap that turned his face sideways.
Wei Jingxi laughed, lazily leaning back, a defiant smirk playing on his lips.
Wei Nanxuan glared at him, "How can you still laugh? Last night’s banquet was so important, and you ended up outside causing a scene and fighting, landing yourself in the hospital! What a fool you are!"
"It was just a banquet; you could have attended without any fuss. Besides, that bastard started it first. Wasn't I just defending myself?"
"Defending yourself? You broke three of Feng Family's kid's ribs! He's a public figure, and you went and made a scene in front of the media and the public. Do you want to embarrass me?"
"Public figure."
Wei Jingxi clenched his fists behind him silently, smiling innocently. "Once the fight started, if I didn't go all out and lost, wouldn't that be even more humiliating?"
Wei Nanxuan let go of him, shaking off his collar with a serious expression. "I won't hold you accountable for the fight right now, but do you have any idea how much your absence from the banquet affected us?"
"How much could it affect? Every important gathering has the same people; I can even count how many moles they have on their faces. What connections do you expect me to build?" Wei Jingxi shrugged nonchalantly, raising an eyebrow with disdain.
"Our family has always had conflicts with the Jiang family in business. That bald guy was trying to set up a match for your fiancée."
Wei Jingxi slowly straightened up, lifting his gaze to stare at Wei Nanxuan. He asked coolly, "What did you say?"
"He mentioned that Zheng Mengni is in the same school as Tan Family's eldest son. Zheng Mengni is already quite charming; just a few words made Tan Zheng pay her extra attention. He even told Tan Yan to take care of her at school."
Seeing Wei Jingxi's expression grow colder, Wei Nanxuan continued with frustration, "Your fiancée being taken care of by others is no big deal! If you had been there, no one would have dared to bring it up!"
Wei Jingxi squinted and smiled, though it wasn’t genuine. "Isn’t it good that Ni Ni is getting attention? I'm happy she's popular."
"Have you lost your mind? Before marriage, this engagement has many uncertainties. If it falls apart later, don’t come crying to me!"
Wei Nanxuan paused briefly. "I don’t care how you talk to Zheng Mengni; you must convince her to agree to an early engagement! As for the Zheng family, aside from her A-Qin, ignore everyone else. They dream of this union, but A-Qin has always been against you. You need to use Zheng Mengni to persuade her to relent."
Wei Jingxi was taken aback, his eyes widening in disbelief as he looked up. "You... what did you say? An early engagement?!"
His eyes sparkled like they were ignited by a torch; the joy emanating from deep within his soul was impossible to hide.
Wei Jingxi clenched his hands tightly and exclaimed with uncontainable excitement, "As long as you agree, I will definitely make her say yes!"
