"If my sister can stand on her own in the future, and if that guy He Jin can live independently, then I want to travel the world."
Rao Jie was momentarily taken aback as she looked at Wei Qian, whose eyes were already sparkling with excitement.
"I want to go to so many places. This is my dream. Although it’s simple and common, it’s what I truly want to do. When the time is right, I will drop everything and go."
If someone else had said this, Rao Jie might have just laughed it off. But Wei Qian was different; Rao Jie knew that even before Wei Qian's parents had their accident, she had always harbored this desire.
In fact, during her freshman year, she even wanted to leave with Wu Xin. Wu Xin was planning to drop out, while she wanted to take a leave of absence. She wanted to travel the world while she was still young. At that time, her family was in good financial shape, and her sister was naturally taken care of by their parents.
However, an unexpected incident shattered her dreams, and from then on, she became the pillar of her family—dreams were no longer a topic for her.
Rao Jie thought she had long forgotten about it, but she hadn’t. She had simply tucked her dreams away, letting them lie dormant until one day when she would be free to pursue them again.
After talking with Wei Qian, Rao Jie felt a surge of thoughts and clarity about many things began to emerge. She reflected on her actions and decisions, slowly calming her mind to think deeply.
…
After work that day, Wu Rong did not come to pick her up. Rao Jie tried to contact Wu Rong but received no response, so she hurried home by herself.
Upon entering the house, she noticed Nina's shoes by the door; the living room was empty, and Wu Rong's door was slightly ajar.
Rao Jie felt a twinge of discomfort as she walked forward.
Inside the room was eerily quiet—there were no sounds of discussion or work. Rao Jie’s heart began to race as she approached without knocking and pushed the door open.
What greeted her eyes made her momentarily lose her composure.
Wu Rong was sitting at the table, apparently exhausted and asleep with his head resting on it. Nina was sitting beside him, propped up on her elbow as she focused intently on Wu Rong's sleeping face, gently playing with his hair while a satisfied smile lingered on her lips.
Such an expression and gaze rendered any excuses Rao Jie might have concocted useless.
Although Nina seemed lost in thought while looking at Wu Rong, she quickly noticed the unusual presence at the door. When their eyes met, an awkward expression finally crossed Nina's face.
Rao Jie glared at Nina as anger surged within her; she felt like shouting in that very moment. But Nina gestured for silence and then stood up to approach her.
When Rao Jie was forced out by Nina's approach, she finally closed the door and looked at Rao Jie, saying, "What do you want to say?"
Rao Jie glared at Nina with some anger and replied, "Isn't it you who should be saying something about how you treat someone else's boyfriend?"
Nina sneered dismissively and said, "Since you've seen it, I won't hide it from you any longer. Yes, I like Wu Rong. I've liked him for a long time. We've been together for many years as the best of partners, and we will be lifelong soulmates. No one is more suited for him than I am."
Rao Jie chuckled lightly and said, "Don't you think it's a bit too late for you to say that? He is my boyfriend now. Don't you know what your actions are called?"
A flash of shame and anger crossed Nina's face.
"I don't think there's anything shameful about my actions. I'm just fighting for what I want. In the past, I had my pride, which is why I never confessed. I thought we would gradually come together without rushing into matters of the heart. But I never expected Wu Rong to be taken away by you so suddenly."
