Our son is deliberately tarnishing our image in front of this girl. He claims we are too strict, and because of the malicious gossip about us, the girl won't agree to continue seeing him. He says we're fierce and intimidating, which has scared her off. What nonsense!
His father and I are kind and harmonious; we were actually looking forward to him getting married! Who would have thought he would ruin our reputation like this? That little brat deserves a good beating!
In his anger, Liu's father almost pulled off his belt to give Liu Heng a good thrashing but was scared back by the shouting.

Without hesitation, she squeezed his arm tightly. Liu Heng didn't rush to take them back; instead, he led them into the house and sat them down seriously on the chairs.
Seeing him like this made Liu's mother furious. This little brat isn't that young anymore; it's rare for him to want to meet a girl. Every time this topic comes up, he just hides away in the army.

Even though Liu's mother was anxious, she had her own plans. She spoke up and asked, "Can I ask why others are spreading malicious rumors about her? Son, you need to be clear with me; I can't just blindly believe you."
In truth, while she said this, she already had an answer in her heart. Her son had sworn on his military career; how could she not be moved? How could she not believe him? She understood her son well. He was neither reckless nor easily agitated; he had his own way of judging people.
She and her husband had seen that he hadn’t done anything out of line, so they turned a blind eye. If he ever did something wrong, they would educate him and help him understand right from wrong.
He was their only son. On one hand, it was because her health wouldn’t allow her to have more children; on the other hand, it was because her husband cared for her. How could they not cherish this one precious child?
Liu Heng moved a chair and sat beside his mother, holding her hand and looking at her earnestly. "Mom, how could I lie to you? You can trust my judgment and character."
"Li Huimei is truly a good person. She has been slandered by others; you know she's the daughter of Captain Chi."
Upon hearing this, Liu's mother understood immediately and believed him even more. Deep down, she felt that the woman in question was indeed capable of such things.
After convincing his parents, Liu Heng couldn’t wait to take them to the school.

"Just focus on your relationship. Whenever you decide to get married, let us know in advance so we can prepare."
The more Liu's mother spoke, the more excited she became; she almost wanted to hug Li Huimei and take her home right then and there.
Liu Heng stood beside Li Huimei, gazing down at her with a cautious inquiry in his eyes.
"If I do this, will you no longer be afraid? Will you be able to be with me? Will we not have to worry about anything else in the future?"
Liu's parents had fallen in love freely; how could they not see the meaning behind the two of them? With a light-hearted attitude, they quickly bid farewell, not wanting that useless boy to come and see her off.
Feeling obstructed, Liu Heng immediately stood in front of her and whispered, "Can we start dating?"
Seeing the woman before him remain silent, he felt a surge of urgency. He had done everything she asked; why wasn’t she agreeing yet?
Suddenly, his hand was grabbed. He looked down to find a small hand holding his. Li Huimei pulled him toward a nearby grove, finding his dazed expression somewhat amusing.
Once they reached a secluded spot, Li Huimei stopped, and he halted as well. She turned to look up at him, still holding onto his hand.
Liu Heng's heart raced as he focused on their tightly clasped hands. He seemed afraid that Li Huimei might let go or that she would become angry if he held on too tightly.
In the next moment, Li Huimei took the initiative to tighten her grip, her voice trembling as she spoke. "Liu Heng, let’s date! Regardless of whether we can get married in the future, I won’t regret being with you."
This was the first time a man had treated her this way—so tenderly and sincerely! She felt deeply moved and knew she wouldn’t regret her decision today.
Although Liu Heng was thrilled by her words, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of unhappiness. What did she mean by "not necessarily getting married"? They were definitely going to get married. Liu Heng never did anything without preparation or entered a battle unarmed.
