At the entrance of the hospital, the three of them got out of the car, and the man drove away. 0

Once inside, they headed to the consultation room. After examining him, the doctor determined there was nothing serious and began to unwrap the bandages. 0

"Everything seems fine now, but you should still be cautious. Avoid strenuous activities for a while; just take it easy and recover gradually," he advised. 0

Lu Zheng nodded, and as he turned to leave, the doctor glanced around at the three of them and suddenly had an idea. He called out to them, "Wait a moment." 0

The doctor closed the door and quietly asked, "Are you planning to have children anytime soon?" 0

The question caught them off guard. The doctor appeared to be in his forties; why would he ask such a thing? He looked at the couple, then at Lu Zheng, and even at the youngest, Lu Chen. 0

Lu Zheng shook his head. "We’re not planning on having children." 0

"Great! That's wonderful!" The man looked at Lu Zheng with excitement, almost as if he were grateful. He then turned to Wen Qian with a questioning look. When she nodded in agreement, he was ready to take action. 0

Finally, under the man's eager gaze, Wen Qian nodded as well. The doctor immediately opened a drawer and pulled out a handful of items, placing them into a paper bag. Unsatisfied, he stuffed in a couple more! 0

He handed it to Lu Zheng, visibly relieved and happy. "Ah, this is just what you need! Take it quickly." 0

"You’re still young; your needs must be great! I’ll give you a bit more—if it’s not enough, just come back for more; I’ll make sure you have plenty." 0

Lu Zheng opened the bag to take a look while Wen Qian leaned in curiously. She had never seen such things before and looked at the doctor with confusion. 0

Lu Zheng had seen them before but placed them back on the table with a helpless smile towards the doctor. "Sorry, but we don’t need these." 0

"What?" The doctor seemed bewildered despite having already understood their situation. He walked around Lu Zheng in circles like a child in distress. "That shouldn’t be! You look healthy enough; how could it be that you can’t?" 0

"And it's not easy for young ladies either!" 0

Before he could finish his sentence, Lu Zheng's expression darkened. "Who can’t?" 0

"A man can't say he can't!" 0

With a sigh of resignation, he explained, "I had surgery, so I can’t use what you’ve given us." 0

"Ah! Is that so? That's quite a pity," the doctor sighed, realizing the situation. He helplessly put the items from the table back into the cabinet, disappointment evident in his demeanor. "So much for this; who am I supposed to give it to? What a ridiculous task, it's exhausting." 0

With a heavy heart, he lamented the loss of face and dignity. Although Wen Qian didn't fully understand what the doctor was saying, it didn't stop her from smiling. As they left the room, she caught a glimpse of the doctor's dejected expression. 0

Once outside the hospital, Wen Qian pulled Lu Zheng aside and quietly asked, "Lu Zheng, what kind of surgery did you have?" 0

Lu Zheng was unsure how to explain and leaned closer, saying, "I'll tell you at home." 0

"Alright!" 0

In Wen Qian's mind, surgery was something serious, reserved for severe illnesses. It usually meant financial ruin or something unaffordable. She couldn't believe Lu Zheng had undergone surgery without her knowing. 0

Time had quietly slipped into noon. 0

As the three of them headed to a state-run restaurant for lunch, they happened to spot Liu Heng sneaking glances from a corner and Li Huimei having dinner with a man on a blind date. 0

Li Huimei sat at the table, while the man across from her chatted away. She seemed disinterested, focusing instead on her food. 0

After ordering their meals, they walked over to Liu Heng's table. He hadn’t noticed them yet and was fixated on Li Huimei, his brow furrowed tightly and his lips pressed into an unhappy line as he muttered under his breath. 0

"What's going on?" Lu Zheng finally called out. 0

"Chasing after my wife! What else would I be doing?" Liu Heng replied irritably. Only then did he turn around and notice Lu Zheng and Wen Qian. 0

He gave an awkward smile and scratched his head sheepishly. "Lu Zheng, what brings you here?" 0

"Have you eaten? I haven't had anything good yet; you guys should eat quickly," he said, pushing his bowl and chopsticks toward Lu Chen. "Here, Chen Chen, eat up! You must be hungry!" 0

Lu Chen had been raised well; he knew he shouldn't touch other people's things without permission from his parents. So he turned to Lu Zheng for approval. 0

Lu Zheng declined Liu Heng's offer politely. "We've already ordered; you should eat your meal." 0

Wen Qian's gaze flitted between Liu Heng and Li Huimei as she observed the scene unfold. 0

They were seated not too far away, allowing them to faintly hear their conversation. 0

"How can you eat so much? Once we get married, you need to change this bad habit. Our family doesn’t have that much food to spare for a daughter-in-law." 0

Li Huimei nodded, "Mhm!" 0

"And what you’re wearing is clothes, right? Why are you so wasteful? Don’t you know the value of frugality? Once we’re married, you can only have one outfit." 0

The man seemed to be afraid that Li Huimei would misunderstand, explaining that one outfit meant just one coat or pair of pants—only one. 0

Li Huimei buried her head in her food, nodding again, "Mhm!" 0

"Also, your salary will go to my mother. All our money will be managed by her to prevent you from spending it recklessly." 0

Li Huimei continued to eat, nodding once more, "Mhm!" 0

"When we get married, your family needs to provide a larger dowry." 0

The man spoke with a sense of superiority and pride. "Your reputation is so poor; marrying you is a loss for our family. Besides, I have decent conditions myself. I’m good-looking—let’s not even mention that I work at the factory." 0

This time, Li Huimei didn’t nod. She stopped eating and looked at the self-absorbed man in disbelief. 0

"You think you’re good-looking?" 0

His face was so ugly it was almost offensive to her eyes! 0

His breath was foul; if it weren’t for the fear that she wouldn’t be able to eat after he finished, would she really be so focused on her meal? 0

Was she choking on it? 0

Perhaps Li Huimei’s gaze attacked the man’s fragile ego. He blushed in anger and shouted at her. 0

"What kind of look is that? Let me tell you, being able to marry you is a blessing for your family. Otherwise, who would want to marry you?" 0

"With your bad reputation known across several villages, who would dare take you as their wife? If it weren’t for the matchmaker begging me to meet you, do you think I would have come? And how dare you laugh at me?" 0

After this tirade, he noticed that Li Huimei still held her chopsticks. He snatched them away and slammed them on the table. 0

"All you do is eat! Am I marrying you just so you can have meals?" 0

Li Huimei had long since lost her patience. Looking at the food on the table now covered in saliva, she felt no appetite. 0

She knew it was time for her performance again. 0

Time to unleash a massacre! 0
