"You look really good, I like you."
"Is that so?" Jiang Qing was momentarily at a loss for words.
If someone else had been malicious, he would have confronted them without hesitation. But this girl clearly meant no harm; her gaze was filled with admiration—yes, pure admiration.
"Then we can get to know each other slowly," she suggested.
Li Huimei quickly chimed in, "Can I ask to meet you? Maybe we could have a meal together. I promise I won't make you pay; I have a salary too."
Jiang Qing couldn't help but chuckle, rubbing his forehead in amusement. This girl was quite entertaining!
If he were a bad person, he might have already taken her money or tricked her in some way.
"Alright."
"Hehehe, that works!" Li Huimei couldn't suppress her silly grin, her eyes sparkling with affection as she looked at Jiang Qing.
"What are you two up to?"
"Jiang Qing, who is she? Why is she sitting here talking to you?"
Li Huimei pointed at herself, and without hesitation, she reached out and pulled Guo Xiaojun closer, causing her to yelp in pain.
"What are you doing, you little brat? How dare you hit me!"
Li Huimei found Guo Xiaojun's attitude annoying. "You pointed at me; why shouldn't I hit you? You deserve it!"
She shoved Guo Xiaojun away and brushed off her hands in disdain.
With a puzzled look, she turned to Jiang Qing, her eyes questioning. "Jiang Qing, how can you be here? I like you; we're going to get married in the future."
Jiang Qing was already fed up with Guo Xiaojun and had tried to get rid of her several times. He had said plenty of harsh words.
It was as if she clung to him like a stubborn adhesive.
She simply didn't belong in this good unit.
"Married??"
Li Huimei's radar went off. Although she liked Jiang Qing, if he had poor character, that was unacceptable. She didn't want a playboy.
Jiang Qing looked at Guo Xiaojun with irritation. "Comrade Guo, if you continue to harass me, I won't hesitate to report it to the leadership. Just wait and see; you'll be kicked out of the unit."
"I have nothing to do with her," he added while explaining to Li Huimei. Even if they were strangers, he felt compelled to clarify.
His reputation couldn't be tarnished like this.
As everyone says, it's not the fierce soldiers one should fear but the persistent pests that cling on and won't let go.
Guo Xiaojun felt intimidated and could only grit her teeth in frustration as she moved away to watch from a distance.
She didn't want to marry a soldier.
During this time, her older sister and brother-in-law had introduced her to several people, none of whom were as good as Jiang Qing or held a higher position than him. She had no interest in them at all!
After chatting with Li Huimei for a while, Jiang Qing felt a bit awkward. He stood up and said he had to leave first.
"I'll see you out," Li Huimei said eagerly, following him closely until they reached the door. Only then did she happily run back inside to find Lu Wenwen.
Her steps quickened as she navigated through the crowd, trying her best to avoid bumping into anyone. Suddenly, she felt a sharp jab at her side, followed by the sound of a cup shattering on the floor.
Frowning, she covered her waist and looked down at the broken cup, then turned to the man standing nearby.
Liu Heng glanced at the cup on the ground and then at Li Huimei, looking somewhat apologetic. He noticed that her clothes had gotten a bit wet and hurriedly apologized. "Comrade, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to bump into you. Let me clean it up for you... no, I'll take you to get it cleaned."
Li Huimei looked at her damp clothes, feeling a bit displeased. She shook her head. "It's fine; it's just water. It’ll dry in a bit."
"Oh dear, I'm really sorry about that," Liu Heng said, looking at her like a child who had made a mistake. He stood awkwardly beside her, his heart racing.
Oh my gosh, how could he be so clumsy and spill water on a girl?
He glanced carefully at Li Huimei again; his heart began to race even faster. This girl was actually quite pretty, and the way she frowned made her look endearing.
"Let's go sit over there for a bit!" Liu Heng suggested as he picked up the broken cup and gestured for her to follow him to a corner with some chairs.
Li Huimei nodded and followed him over.
Once seated, Liu Heng scratched his head in distress and looked at Li Huimei with guilt. "Comrade, how about I buy you a new shirt as an apology?"
Li Huimei stared at him in disbelief, finding it somewhat amusing. "Are you joking? It's just a little water! There's no need to buy me anything; you're being too generous! If you keep this up, I guarantee people will keep spilling water on you. I could come here every day and wouldn't need to buy clothes myself!"
After saying this, she noticed Liu Heng's self-reproachful expression and couldn't help but sigh in comfort. "I can be a bit blunt sometimes; don’t take it to heart. I’m not upset with you."
She twisted the wet fabric of her shirt before letting it hang loose to dry naturally.
"I just feel bad for getting your clothes dirty," Liu Heng said earnestly, looking like an obedient younger brother in front of Li Huimei.
"Hey, Wenwen! Where are you?" Li Huimei called out as she spotted Lu Wenwen searching for her.
Lu Wenwen and Yang Tong both turned their attention toward her.
Lu Wenwen looked at Li Kuimei.
Yang Tong glanced at Liu Heng.
Lu Wenwen approached Li Kuimei and noticed a wet patch on the side of her waist. She asked with concern, "What happened?"
"Nothing, I just accidentally splashed some water," Li Kuimei replied.
Yang Tong walked over and patted Liu Heng, knowing from his expression that this little rascal was the cause of it all. Every time he made a mistake, he would wear this kind of expression, making others think it was someone else's fault!
"Let's go to Sister Wenqian's place for a while! You can't do anything right now anyway."
"Sure."
When Yang Tong heard Wenqian's name, he turned to look at Lu Wenwen, his gaze deepening.
Liu Heng perked up, "You know Sister Wenqian too?"
"Yeah, we all teach at the same school," Lu Wenwen replied.
Liu Heng looked at Li Kuimei with excitement, "You're a teacher? No wonder!"
"You look a bit fierce," he added.
Liu Heng's youthful face couldn't hide his feelings, and Li Kuimei quickly noticed. She shot him an annoyed glance.
"What? Do you think I'm fierce?"
"No, how could I think that? I didn't say anything!" he stammered, explaining so quickly that he nearly bit his own tongue.
Flustered and unsure how to clarify himself, his face turned bright red, and he could only lower his head in resignation and apologize.
"I'm sorry, I misspoke."
Li Kuimei found Liu Heng's reaction particularly amusing. It was like teasing a newly adopted puppy; just a little poke would make it anxious.
Liu Heng noticed her gaze and felt even more embarrassed, then shot an angry glance at Li Kuimei.
To his surprise, she wasn't embarrassed at all; instead, she burst into laughter.
