"Lu Zheng, what are you doing here?" 0

Guan Weiguang approached Lu Zheng with an unnatural expression, unable to meet his gaze. 0

Lu Zheng noticed the change in Guan Weiguang's eyes; the warmth that once characterized their friendship had faded. 0

"Weiguang, how many years have we known each other since you joined the army?" 0

"Almost seven years!" 0

"Right, almost seven years. Weiguang, sometimes there are things I don’t want to say too clearly. I never intended for our brotherhood to come to this." 0

"From now on, let's just walk our own paths and maintain our camaraderie as comrades." 0

Over the years, Lu Zheng had turned a blind eye to Guan Weiguang's actions out of their long-standing friendship. However, now that they were not alone, Guan Weiguang had to make a choice. 0

Suddenly, Guan Weiguang looked up at Lu Zheng, shocked and surprised. He never expected Lu Zheng would say such a thing. Did their years of brotherhood mean nothing over a few trivial matters? Was it all so easily discarded? 0

He hadn’t done anything heinous to help Chi Xuecha; he simply wanted to assist the one he loved. What was wrong with that? 0

With red-rimmed eyes, Guan Weiguang looked at Lu Zheng. His already hoarse voice sounded like it was being pricked by thorns as he spoke, "Lu Ge, after all these years of friendship and brotherhood, you’re really willing to throw it all away?" 0

"I... I..." 0

Lu Zheng coldly replied, "You’re the one who doesn’t want it." 0

The two men stood there like children caught in a petty argument, clinging to the last thread of their feelings. Just moments ago, Chi Xuecha had pleaded with him, and he hadn’t shed a tear! But now that Lu Zheng said he didn’t want him anymore, Guan Weiguang felt his heart break. Tears welled up in his eyes as he stubbornly stared at Lu Zheng. 0

"Lu Ge, can’t you trust me just one more time? After all these years of friendship, can’t you give me one last chance? Am I really not worth it?" 0

Abandoning so many years of feelings and brotherhood was painful for Lu Zheng too, but he felt he had no choice. 0

With a calm expression, Lu Zheng left him with a few words before walking away. "I have to go; Team Leader Chi needs me for something." 0

Guan Weiguang stood rooted to the spot, glaring at Lu Zheng's retreating back. He shouted loudly, "Lu Ge, whether you believe me or not, just watch what I do next!" 0

Lu Zheng paused for a moment but continued on his way. 0

In the evening, when Lu Zheng returned home, Wen Qian was still immersed in making clothes. He didn't want to disturb her and instead went to the kitchen to prepare dinner. 0

It wasn't until Wen Qian caught a whiff of the delicious aroma wafting from the kitchen that she realized it was time to make dinner. She finished up her last few tasks, completing a set of clothes for Lu Chen. After working so hard for so long, only one outfit felt far too slow! 0

Wen Qian stood up to stretch her back and then moved her feet a bit before heading towards the kitchen. Lu Zheng was busy inside; the stove was a bit too low for him, forcing him to bend down while cooking. As he prepared the meal, Wen Qian couldn't help but worry about his back. 0

Noticing her presence, Lu Zheng called out, "It'll be ready soon; you can wait outside for a bit!" 0

Wen Qian walked in and asked, "Is there anything I can help with? I can do it quickly." 0

"Then you can add some firewood to the stove; it’ll be done shortly." 0

Wen Qian sat on a stool and added a handful of firewood. She watched as the flames flared up in the stove. Hesitating, she glanced at Lu Zheng before looking down and drawing patterns on the ground with the firewood. 0

"Lu Zheng, thank you for buying me shoes and clothes. I really like them." 0

Lu Zheng paused his cooking and looked at her. "You liked them?" 0

"Yes, I did! I really liked them!" 0

"That's good to hear. I'll make sure to pick out more nice things for you in the future." 0

As Lu Zheng watched Wen Qian illuminated by the firelight, memories of her before they were married flooded his mind. She had been fair-skinned and delicate, always smiling with her small face. Her two dark and shiny ponytails hung down on either side of her shoulders, often accompanied by a book in her arms—she radiated intelligence. 0

He could never forget those large, bright eyes that seemed to look straight into his heart. When they got married, he had felt an overwhelming joy and excitement that kept him awake the night before their wedding. But then he remembered how this girl had once liked his younger brother, which felt like a bucket of cold water poured over him. 0

On their wedding night, he sensed something was off. The young girl’s face flushed red as she became so hot that she started shedding her clothes, looking at him with tearful eyes as she pleaded for help. 0

She begged him to save her! 0

He instinctively wanted to resist, but deep within his mind, a wild beast that had been locked away suddenly broke free, and he lost control just like that. 0

Throughout it all, the young girl bit him in frustration, hit him in desperation, and pleaded with him—none of it could bring him back to his senses. 0

The next morning, when he woke up, he found himself in a chaotic scene. Memories of what had happened the night before flooded his mind, and he punched himself in the face. He was terrified that the little girl hated him! 0

However, when the girl woke up, she ignored him and didn’t say a word; she just cried. After crying, she lay on the bed in silence. He felt a deep ache in his heart, but he had no regrets; after all, he was not a true gentleman. 0

People like him, who had grown up relying on their own stubbornness and tenacity, could not possibly be devoid of selfish thoughts. He too harbored desires and wanted things for himself! He just knew how to hide them! 0

His current goal was to make Wen Qian happy again, to ensure she continued living a joyful life. He wanted her to always wear a smile and have those big eyes sparkle with happiness when she looked at him. 0

Wen Qian looked at Lu Zheng in confusion. Why was he staring at her like that? The food was almost burnt! “Ah, it’s nothing!” Lu Zheng quickly averted his gaze, stirring the vegetables in the pan. 0

During mealtime, Wen Qian felt that Lu Zheng was acting strangely, constantly watching her. She awkwardly touched her face—there was nothing wrong! 0

After they finished eating, Lu Zheng went to wash the dishes while Wen Qian went to freshen up. Just after her shower, as she returned from the yard to her bedroom, a bug suddenly flew into her eye. She rubbed it for a long time but couldn’t get it out. 0

Helplessly, she made her way to the kitchen where Lu Zheng was finishing up the dishes. “Lu Zheng, there’s a bug in my eye; can you help me?” 0

Lu Zheng washed his hands and walked over to her. He pulled Wen Qian into the light; she tilted her head back while he leaned down. They were very close now, their breaths mingling in the air. Wen Qian nervously bit her lip as her breathing grew more rapid. 0

Lu Zheng carefully helped Wen Qian remove the bug from her eye. As he shifted his gaze, he caught sight of her flushed cheeks and rosy lips! When Wen Qian noticed he had stopped moving, she opened her eyes and found herself locked in a gaze with him. 0

Lu Zheng cautiously moved his hand to support Wen Qian’s head as his face slowly leaned closer. He paid attention to her expressions and movements all the while. As they drew nearer, Wen Qian flustered and blinked rapidly; she could clearly feel the warmth of his breath and the heat radiating from his palm. 0
