As Guan Weiguang entered the room, he knocked on the door, and a voice came from within.
"Come in, I haven't locked the door!"
Upon entering, he was greeted by the sight of a bare figure. He immediately lowered his head, placed his belongings down, and hurriedly ran back out.
Chixue Cha turned around and caught only a glimpse of his retreating back. She wanted to chase after him, but he had already dashed out the door. Without any clothes on, she could only grit her teeth and close the door behind her.
Yet deep down, she couldn't help but feel a sense of secret delight. Lu Zheng must have seen her body; otherwise, he wouldn't have been so eager to run away. He must have felt embarrassed.
Chixue Cha was quite confident about her figure.
Guan Weiguang rushed to his room, leaning against the door as he gasped for breath.
"Captain, that request is no longer valid; I've already made it clear to Comrade Chixue Cha."
"You don't need to blame yourself; this is her issue and has nothing to do with you."
Though he said this, Captain Chi understood the meaning behind Lu Zheng's respectful yet distant gaze. He let out a bitter smile and sighed. "Alright, Lu Zheng, you're a good kid, a promising one. If you keep working hard, you'll surely have better opportunities in the future."
"Thank you, Captain. I’ll get back to work now."
After Captain Chi nodded, Lu Zheng strode toward the door, leaving Guan Weiguang and Captain Chi to converse inside.
The next day, Lu Zheng dawdled and didn't go to the team.
Wen Qian looked at him in confusion. "Aren't you going to the team today?"
"I'm taking a break today!"
Lu Zheng went to the kitchen to cook while Wen Qian and Lu Chen went to wash up. The little guy now had a very regular routine; he would go to bed early at night and wake up early in the morning. Sometimes he would even wake up earlier than Wen Qian. He would lie quietly in bed without making a fuss, watching Wen Qian sleep with eyes full of affection.
It just so happens that today we can go into town to buy some things; we still haven't gathered everything we need at home.
Sure!
Lu Zheng prepared breakfast, and while they were eating, Wen Qian asked him, "Do you have a sewing machine ticket now? I want to buy a sewing machine. The weather is getting colder, and I need to make clothes for both myself and Xiao Chen for autumn and winter. It would be more convenient to have one!"
We can't always borrow from Aunt Tian!
Lu Zheng put down his bowl and looked at Wen Qian seriously. "You don't need to explain; you can buy whatever you want. I'll borrow a sewing machine ticket from my comrade later. I should be able to get it."
"Okay!"
After Wen Qian replied, she thought for a moment and added, "I just wanted to clarify this with you. You're also part of this family, so it's necessary for you to know where the money is going and why!"
She smiled at Lu Chen. "Xiao Chen is also part of the family. Do you want Mommy to buy a sewing machine?"
Lu Chen, being mentioned, quickly raised his hand with a steamed bun in it, chewing rapidly before swallowing and exclaiming loudly, "Yes! Mommy says we can buy whatever we want; Chen Chen listens to Mommy!"
The little guy's eyes widened, then he smiled at Wen Qian, filled with trust and affection.
"Chen Chen is so good!"
After finishing breakfast and tidying up, Lu Zheng went back to his room to get something. As he casually glanced at the watch on the table, he paused for a moment, his eyes narrowing slightly as a hint of melancholy flashed across his face.
He picked up the watch and walked outside, approaching Wen Qian, who was tidying up in the living room, and handed it to her.
Wen Qian saw a large hand appear in front of her. She looked at the watch in his palm, then curiously at the man whose lips were pressed tightly together.
"What’s wrong?" she asked.
"You forgot to wear your watch, so I brought it over."
Wen Qian looked at him with a smile in her eyes as she took the watch and put it on her wrist, finding it amusing how tense he seemed.
"What are you thinking? I didn’t take the Chixue tea talk to heart; I just didn’t wear it because I was afraid of bumping into something."
A hint of embarrassment flashed across Lu Zheng's face but was quickly masked. He said earnestly, "If it breaks, we'll just buy a new one."
"A new one doesn’t come for free! If you’re not worried about money, I am!"
"Our family’s money doesn’t come easily; it’s earned through your hard work on the battlefield. Even if we need to spend it, we shouldn’t waste it!"
"Although I haven’t seen them all, I've noticed how many injuries you've had during this time."
"This one... I really like."
Wen Qian shook her wrist, glancing at her watch. Turning to look at the man, she found Lu Zheng lost in thought. She worried that she might have said too much and upset him.
She asked directly, "If you don’t like me saying those things, I’ll try to say less in front of you. Or you could just walk away when I start talking."
Lu Zheng hurriedly denied it, eager to explain. "No, I like what you say. I just got a bit distracted."
Seeing his silly expression, Wen Qian couldn't help but laugh. A playful thought crossed her mind, and she hesitated before speaking again. "Aren't you afraid I'll keep talking about you? Right now, you might enjoy it, but later on, you might find it annoying and yell at me, saying I talk about you like you're my son."
She recalled how many uncles in the village would say that during arguments with their wives.
"I won’t," Lu Zheng replied quickly. "No one has cared for me like this before. I really like it when you talk about me." He added hastily, "But you can’t treat me like your son. I’m your man, not your son. Those are two different things."
Wen Qian laughed at him, surprised to find this usually stoic man quite amusing. As Lu Zheng watched her laugh, a smile crept onto his face, the corners of his mouth curving upward until he couldn't help but chuckle.
Hearing his laughter made Wen Qian burst into a loud laugh herself, nearly bringing tears to her eyes. But as she laughed, Lu Zheng began to doubt himself and hesitantly closed his mouth, stopping his laughter.
"Lu Zheng, your smile is so silly!" she exclaimed.
She hadn’t expected that his laughter would reveal such a goofy side of him, contrasting sharply with his sharp and capable features.
Lu Zheng felt his face flush as he looked at Wen Qian laughing. He was genuinely happy but felt a bit embarrassed to be teased. He quickly turned to leave.
"I'm going to borrow the sewing machine!" he called out as he hurried away.
Wen Qian watched him flee in a panic, unable to contain her laughter. She truly hadn’t anticipated that Lu Zheng would laugh like this—so adorably silly.
