Watching the two figures leave, Lu Yao and Cuihua felt a surge of fear rising within them. After a long while, Lu Yao's father still hadn't returned, and Lu Yao could no longer sit still. He anxiously patted Cuihua's leg.
"Mother, do you think something has happened since he hasn't come back for so long?"
Cuihua could only let out a whimper, which made Lu Yao feel increasingly restless. Finally, after another hour had passed, footsteps were finally heard outside the house.
Lu Yao hurriedly looked towards the door and immediately saw a pair of dark eyes staring back at him. He instinctively shrank back in fear. As the figure drew closer, he realized it was his father.
He gasped in shock and couldn't help but scold, "Father, what are you doing? You scared me to death! Why did you take so long? Are you feeling unwell?"
Lu Yao's father slowly approached, and suddenly Lu Yao caught a whiff of a strong metallic scent. Panic began to rise within him as he looked at his father.
"Father, you should wash up and get some rest; it's already late!"
"No rush!"
Indeed, there was no rush! There were still matters that needed to be dealt with!
As his father came closer, the smell of blood grew stronger, solidifying Lu Yao's suspicions. Without warning, Lu Yao's father raised his hand and slapped him hard across the face, causing Lu Yao's head to jerk to the side and blood to trickle from the corner of his mouth.
Covering his face in fear, Lu Yao turned to look at his father and asked softly through gritted teeth, "Father, why did you hit me? I didn't do anything!"
His father yanked his hair roughly, pulling him backward and forcing Lu Yao to lean forward in pain.
"Father, why are you pulling my hair? It hurts so much! Please let go!"
Lu Yao's father grabbed his chin and turned his head from side to side, a mocking expression growing on his face.
"Just like him! You really are just like him!"
He couldn't believe he hadn't noticed all these years! No wonder he had said that Lu Yao didn't resemble him; if he were truly his son, how could he be so foolish?
All of this was caused by that wretched Cuihua! He had saved her out of kindness, only to rescue a thankless wolf in sheep's clothing.
"Isn't your father surnamed Shi? I'm not your real father!"
As those words left his lips, the grip on Lu Yao tightened even further as if he intended to rip Lu Yao's scalp off!
At that moment, Lu Yao couldn't care less about the pain; he was terrified beyond belief! He knew it now—he truly knew!
He tugged at his scalp, steadying himself as he hurriedly explained to Father Lu, "Dad, Shishu isn't saying I'm his father; you are my father! What nonsense are you talking about?"
Another slap landed, and Lu Yao was thrown onto the bed. Father Lu slowly walked to the back of the door and picked up a willow branch.
Lu Yao caught a glimpse of it and widened his eyes in horror, shrinking back in fear. "Dad, I'm not lying! Don't listen to others' nonsense; I really am your biological son!"
Father Lu didn't continue the conversation, his hands moving steadily.
Before long, screams and the swishing sound of the willow branch filled the air. When the noise ceased, Lu Yao lay on the bed, covered in blood.
Cuihua was so scared that she had already soiled herself beneath her.
Zhang Yan was lost in her own world, huddled in a corner, motionless; it was unclear whether she had fallen asleep or simply didn't hear anything.
Father Lu wrapped the willow branch around Cuihua's neck and slowly began to tighten it!
Cuihua struggled more and more as her body's functions were pushed to their limits, but gradually breathing became increasingly difficult. Her face turned redder and more swollen!
Just when she thought she was about to die, the constriction around her neck suddenly loosened!
Father Lu patted her face and smiled, "Like I said, I want to torment you slowly; I want you to die slowly! You know my methods of torture, don't you? Now it's your turn to experience them."
Cuihua looked at Father Lu pleadingly; her fingers moved slightly, gripping his trousers and giving them a gentle shake.
Father Lu looked at Cuihua with madness in his eyes. "If you dare betray me, you should know your fate. Those who betray me must die. Anyone who betrays me will die!"
A woman's figure flashed through Father Lu's mind, his eyes turning crimson with madness! Everyone must die!
Just when it seemed everything had calmed down, Father Lu suddenly pulled Zhang Yan from her corner, putting on a live show!
Zhang Yan disobeyed him and was beaten until her body was bruised and battered, lying on the ground like a lamb awaiting slaughter.
The tranquility of the Lu family lasted until noon the next day when the Shi family arrived!
They were looking for Shishu. As soon as Shi Laoda entered the door, he spotted Father Lu sitting in the yard soaking up the sun and strode over.
"Uncle Lu, where's my dad? Why hasn't he come home yet?"
Father Lu opened his eyes as if just waking up and said in a hushed voice, "Your dad went home last night. He insisted on leaving even though I told him not to; there was nothing I could do but let him go."
"It wasn't even dark yet when he got home; it couldn't have been that late!" Shi Laoda frowned. "That's impossible! My dad didn't come home last night; we thought he stayed at your place again!"
"Hmm?"
Lu's father suddenly woke up, standing up to look at him. "Your father didn't come back last night? I specifically saw him off at the village entrance yesterday!" How could he not have returned?
"Come on, let's go look for him. He might have fallen asleep by the roadside and hasn't woken up yet!"
Shi Shu had experienced something like this before. Hearing this, the eldest of the Shi family hurriedly ran out to search.
They found him only at night! He had died at the foot of the mountain! Caught in a hunting trap, bamboo had pierced through his entire body, and the pit was filled with blood!
Lu's father cried uncontrollably, blaming himself entirely. "It's all my fault! If I hadn't dragged Shi Shu out for drinks, this wouldn't have happened!" His tears were genuine, and the Shi family comforted him, saying it wasn't his fault; no one could have anticipated such a thing.
The Shi family held a funeral, and as Shi Shu's best friend and most generous supporter, how could Lu's father not attend? When he returned, he brought another bottle of wine and stopped at the place where Shi Shu had met with tragedy. His gaze fell upon a stone in the pit—a stone stained with blood!
He held the wine bottle and opened it. He flipped it upside down, leaving just a last sip, tilting his head back to drink it down.
He chuckled mockingly. "Old Shi, you little rascal, you messed with someone you shouldn't have, did things you shouldn't have done, and ended up with a child you shouldn't have had. This is all what you deserve."
Tears slipped from Lu's eyes as he laughed self-deprecatingly. He truly regarded Shi Shu as a brother; he helped him with whatever he could and even sought help for what he couldn't.
Little did he expect that while he was helping him, Shi Shu would be entangled with his own woman. And now there was an illegitimate child!
Lu Yao already knew about this. When Lu's father entered the house, he asked with red eyes, "Did you kill him?" It wasn't a question; it was a statement of certainty.
Lu's father felt an overwhelming hatred surge within him as he looked into Lu Yao's eyes, a flash of murderous intent crossing his face. He slowly lifted his foot and walked over.
