Lu Chen got up from Wen Qian's embrace, his eyes red and his small voice hoarse as he recounted the events to her. The little guy felt increasingly wronged as he spoke, showing Wen Qian his knees, which were bruised and red. His small mouth pouted unhappily, looking pitiful.
Suddenly, Lu Chen pulled up his sleeve to reveal the purplish marks on his arm. "Mom, Mom, she... she pinched me!"
Although Lu Chen had often been bullied by his older brothers, Lu Wen and Lu Feng, as well as Zhang Yan and Cuihua, he had always forced himself to endure it for the sake of not causing trouble for his mother. But now that his mother had become so strong and his father was back, could he finally stop enduring?
Wen Qian quickly lifted his shirt to check; the purplish marks on his arm looked alarming. Little Chen had sensitive skin, and any bump or bruise would leave a mark. Even a slight pinch would cause immediate swelling, making it look worse than it was. Since Little Chen had grown more aware of things, she hadn’t bathed him herself in a while, and she had also neglected him due to her exhaustion.
The Lu family dared not be too harsh with Lu Chen, so while the injuries looked severe, they were mostly superficial. Since returning home, Little Chen's wounds had healed significantly; his skin was a bit fairer now, though his face and neck still bore some blemishes.
Onlookers gasped at the sight of Lu Chen's arm. "That’s too harsh! Look at how purple it is; that must hurt a lot!"
"Oh my! Look at all those marks on his arm!"
Wen Qian's eyes reddened slightly as she stood up and walked towards Guo Xiaojun, who was standing off to the side. Guo Xiaojun stepped back in fear at the sight of Wen Qian’s vengeful demeanor. She shouted at Wen Qian, "What are you doing? What do you want?"
Wen Qian approached expressionlessly and grabbed Guo Xiaojun's arm to stop her from retreating any further. Without hesitation, she delivered two sharp slaps.
Smack! Smack!
The sound was crisp and decisive!
Guo Xiaojun covered her face in disbelief as she stared at Wen Qian. "You hit me! You dare hit me!"
"You hurt my son; is it wrong for me to hit you?"
It seemed Guo Xiaojun finally came to her senses; her eyes reddened as she began to struggle, raising her hands to strike back at Wen Qian.
"You filthy wretch! I'll kill you! How dare you hit me!"
Guo Xiaojuan's hand was just about to grab Wen Qian's face when excitement flashed in her eyes. However, before she could reach her target, Wen Qian had already seized her wrist.
With a swift twist, Wen Qian caused Guo Xiaojuan to cry out in pain. Her other hand was restless, and her feet attempted to kick Wen Qian in retaliation.
Wen Qian, uninterested in wasting time with her, delivered a kick. Guo Xiaojuan lost her balance and stumbled forward, crashing to the ground.
The onlookers quickly stepped aside, fearing they might get caught in the crossfire. They watched Guo Xiaojuan lying on the ground and instinctively swallowed hard, cautiously glancing at Wen Qian with fear in their eyes.
My goodness! I didn't realize she was this formidable!
From now on, they needed to be careful; one wrong move, and it could be them lying on the ground.
Feeling utterly humiliated, Guo Xiaojuan began to cry as she lay there.
"Woohoo, she's bullying me! The captain's wife is bullying me! I can't take this anymore!"
Sitting up, she noticed her clothes were covered in dust, which only fueled her anger further.
She shouted at Wen Qian, "You filthy wretch! Your son said I hit him, but I didn't! Do you have any evidence? How dare you hit me? I'm going to report you to the higher-ups!"
As she watched Wen Qian approach her, fear gripped her, and she instinctively backed away. She quickly stifled her sobs and nervously stared at Wen Qian.
"W-what do you want?"
Guo Xiaojuan swallowed hard, looking up at Wen Qian, unsure of what she intended to do.
"Go ahead; if you don't want to go, I'll go find them for you!"
Wen Qian said as she stepped aside, giving Guo Xiaojuan a clearer path to seek out the leaders.
However, Guo Xiaojuan hesitated; she was already afraid of facing the leaders. Whenever she saw them, her tongue would tie up, and she might end up betraying herself.
She suddenly covered her aching face and forced a smile. "No, I won't go find them this time. I'll let you off this once; if there's a next time, I'll definitely report you."
"No, you let me off; the leaders will be here soon."
Wen Qian took a couple of steps closer to her and slowly crouched down beside Guo Xiaojuan's ear.
Guo Xiaojuan wanted to retreat in fear but heard a voice whispering right next to her ear.
I told you long ago not to provoke me if there was nothing going on. You didn’t listen, so I can only resolve this my way!
She came to provoke me, and Wen Qian might have thought it would be easier to give her a chance. But if she wants to blame someone, she should blame herself for choosing to provoke Xiao Chen. Having crossed her own boundaries, she shouldn’t expect any mercy.
What’s going on? Oh dear, Xiao Qian, what happened?
Wen Qian turned around and saw Aunt Tian. She was holding a little boy who looked about the same age as Xiao Chen, but he was indeed quite chubby. Before Wen Qian could approach, the people around had already explained the situation to Aunt Tian.
Aunt Tian glanced at Xiao Chen's arm and sighed twice. Goodness, that arm looks like it’s about to break! If he puts in any more effort, it might just be useless.
As Aunt Tian spoke, she shook her head sympathetically. The people around her also looked on and nodded in agreement, not finding it strange at all.
Wen Qian couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly and nodded along.
Look at that arm; it’s terrifying! It’s all bruised and swollen.
It is swollen! Just look how high it’s puffed up! If that arm really breaks, how will they treat it? It’s bound to cost a fortune.
Some onlookers couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Guo Dajuan thought about how her sister had just brought her child over and this huge incident happened right away; she must be regretting it deeply!
Isn’t that right? She was hoping her sister would climb the social ladder! Now look at this; not only will she have to spend money, but her husband’s future might also be affected.
Guo Xiaojun listened to the discussions around her and felt increasingly anxious. If this really affected her brother-in-law, then she would be finished; her elder sister would never take care of her again.
Would she have to marry a farmer and work the fields? She didn’t want that!
She had come here with no intention of leaving; she wanted to be a city person!
Her anxiety grew as beads of sweat began to trickle down her forehead. Her whole body felt weak. In a panic, she stood up and called out to Aunt Tian.
You old woman, what nonsense are you talking? I just twisted it gently a couple of times; how could it possibly break?
Oh come on, just admit it! You twisted Xiao Chen’s arm!
