Yixue's face looked as if she had been beaten, and she felt like crying.
She forced a smile, feeling awkward. Lu Zheng was really humorous! He was even joking around.
Guan Weiguang laughed along, trying to lighten the mood. "I didn't expect Sister-in-law to be three years younger than you! Quite a match."
Lu Zheng showed no mercy and interrupted him, "I’m not wrong; my wife is indeed younger than her."
Aunt Tian giggled from the back, giving Wen Qian a thumbs up. She looked at Yixue and said, "Yizhi, right? Can’t you see that Lu Zheng doesn’t even want to bother with you? Can’t you have a little self-respect and keep quiet?"
"You’ve been chattering away the whole way, driving me crazy! I’ve been to the army so many times, and this is the first time I’ve encountered someone like you. What’s your status anyway? Once I get to the base, I’ll definitely ask the leaders about you."
Yixue listened to Aunt Tian’s tirade, her face flushed with anger and her eyes red. She huffed loudly and buried her face in her knees, starting to cry.
"You're all bullying me! You’re bullying me! I’ll definitely tell my dad when I get back!"
"How old are you? Going home to complain to your parents? Do you really think you're still a little kid?"
Aunt Tian looked at her and couldn’t help but roll her eyes internally. She was fed up with people like this, especially women who twisted the truth and tried to seduce other women’s men.
Wasn’t she just like that with her first fiancé? It had caused her to be ridiculed in the village for a long time. Thank goodness she didn’t marry that useless man; otherwise, she wouldn’t have met her current husband or lived such a comfortable life.
Sometimes she wondered if it was heaven that sent her husband down to save her. A caring father-in-law and mother-in-law, a hardworking and capable man, plus a successful son and a beautiful daughter—she truly felt blessed in this life.
That’s why she realized long ago that if it wasn’t meant to be, no amount of force could change it; if heaven wanted to grant something, there was no way to push it away.
Guan Weiguang glanced at the back seat and couldn’t help but speak up, "Auntie, Xiaoxue means no harm; please stop. She’s already crying."
Hey!
Aunt Tian had calmed down and wasn’t planning to bother with Yixue anymore, but Guan Weiguang’s words made it seem like she was looking for trouble.
She leaned forward against the passenger seat and said, "Listen here, young man; if you're blind, that’s one thing, but don’t think everyone else is blind too! If you like her, just go for it already! Are you even a man? Stop dragging your feet!"
Guan Weiguang's smile stiffened slightly as he nervously glanced around before explaining to Aunt Tian with a forced grin, "Auntie, what are you talking about? I don’t understand; just sit down quickly; we won’t be on the road much longer."
Aunt Tian sat back and chuckled twice. "I don't need to say anything; you know in your heart what’s going on. Just don’t do anything foolish in the future without realizing it."
Wen Qian looked at Aunt Tian with admiration, thinking how sharp her words were. She felt fortunate to be on Aunt Tian's side; otherwise, she wouldn’t know how to deal with her.
Aunt Tian deliberately pulled Wen Qian closer and said, "Little Qian, if anyone bothers you in the army, just take action. If you can’t handle it, come find me. I’ll tear their face apart."
Wen Qian noticed Yi Xuecha shudder slightly and couldn’t help but chuckle. "Thank you, Aunt."
Although the car was full, the atmosphere was awkward. Yi Xuecha's cries gradually faded into sniffles.
Guan Weiguang kept glancing toward the back of the car until he caught a cold glare from Lu Zheng, which made him awkwardly retract his gaze.
The other car was lively as well. Jiang Qing sat in the passenger seat while Guo Xiaojun leaned over, poking at Jiang Qing’s seat.
"Jiang Zhi, my brother-in-law is also in this unit. You’ll definitely meet him later. When you come to my sister's house, I’ll cook for you. I’m a pretty good cook!"
"Jiang Zhi, are you thirsty? I have water; do you want some? I see your lips are chapped."
"Jiang Zhi, when we meet in the army, please take care of me. I’m not familiar with the place; can I come to you for questions?"
Jiang Qing opened his eyes, unable to endure any longer. He irritably spoke up, "Guo Zhi, can you be quiet? You’re really loud, you know? I want to rest in peace; please shut up. We won’t be seeing each other in the army anyway."
The young soldier driving glanced at Jiang Qing and then at Guo Xiaojun in the backseat, trying not to make it too obvious that he was enjoying the show.
Guo Xiaojun’s face flushed red. Embarrassed, she looked at Jiang Qing and shyly said, "Jiang Zhi, you actually remember my last name is Guo! You really pay attention to me!"
"My name is Guo Xiaojun; can I call you Jiang Qing directly?"
Jiang Qing slumped back into his seat, not expecting to encounter such an unashamed girl who was both difficult and self-absorbed.
"No, just be quiet!"
"I remember your last name is Guo because you accused me of stealing your shoes and even wanted to call the police on me."
The young soldier’s eyes widened in surprise as he glanced at Guo Xiaojun, shocked by her boldness.
Guo Xiaojun twirled her fingers nervously. "I—I didn’t mean to wrong you! You can’t expect others not to make mistakes! Besides, didn’t I apologize to you later?"
"I didn't agree, so please be quiet for a while."
He silently reminded himself: never go to the family courtyard, or else you'd get stuck like a plaster.
Guo Xiaojun sat in the back seat, looking at Jiang Qing with annoyance. How could this man be so dull? He was always giving her a cold shoulder. Once she had him wrapped around her finger, she'd make sure he knew it!
She glanced at the chicken tied up on the ground and kicked it in frustration. The chicken squawked as it was kicked in the belly, and as if provoked, it released a stream of droppings that splattered onto Guo Xiaojun's pants.
"Ah, my pants! You damn chicken!"
Guo Xiaojun shouted, hurriedly trying to wipe it off but finding nothing to use. She looked around and grabbed a handful of leaves from the roadside. To her surprise, she ended up grabbing a handful of wild mustard greens, leaving her hand stinging red without even pulling off any leaves.
She could only cover her sore hand while suppressing her disgust to clean off the chicken droppings. She glared at the chicken and cursed under her breath, but she didn't dare kick it again.
In another car, Yi Xuecha had already adjusted her emotions. She looked at Lu Chen's face peeking out from beside the seat and felt a flash of disdain in her eyes, which quickly turned into fondness.
"Lu Zhengge, this must be your child! So adorable, looks just like you—though a bit too dark and skinny."
She casually rubbed her belly and said softly, "If the child were mine, they'd definitely be chubby."
After saying that, she shot a provocative glance at Wen Qian, whose expression remained unchanged but whose eyes darkened slightly.
It was fine for Yi Xuecha to tease Lu Zheng; she could say whatever she wanted. But when it came to Xiao Chen, that was unacceptable.
Wen Qian caught a glimpse of Xiao Chen shrinking unhappily into Lu Zheng's arms and let out a cold laugh.
Aunt Tian noticed something was off with Wen Qian's expression and leaned forward slightly to give her space to express herself.
Wen Qian met Aunt Tian's encouraging gaze and smiled in response.
This person—Wen Qian had known of her existence in her previous life. Initially, she didn't want to poke at her heartstrings and intended to leave things for Lu Zheng to handle himself.
But since this woman had the audacity to provoke her, there was no need to spare her feelings anymore.
Yi Xuecha's teasing smile faded slowly as she watched Wen Qian's lips curve upward.
Why are you looking at me like that? What do you want from me?
