Guo Xiaojun clutched the man's shirt tightly, her other hand covering her backside.
"Ugh, who would want to touch you! Just look at yourself; it's enough to make anyone sick. Let me tell you, don’t be such a scoundrel!"
Guo Xiaojun was so angry she was on the verge of tears. She shouted for help from those around her, "Help! They’re bullying a young girl! I can’t take it anymore; I’ve been taken advantage of!"
The man looked at Guo Xiaojun and smirked sarcastically, "You seem to be enjoying this, don’t you? It’s not like everyone here doesn’t know you’ve been groped."
"You—"
The man broke free from Guo Xiaojun's grip. "What do you mean 'you'? I don’t have time to waste with you; I have things to do."
As he turned to leave, Guo Xiaojun became frantic and shouted as she lunged at him. "You filthy man, you pervert! May you suffer for taking advantage of me!"
Caught off guard, the man stumbled and fell as she tackled him. Guo Xiaojun scratched his face fiercely, causing him to wince in pain.
The crowd around them gasped in shock; how did it escalate to a fight? "Stop! Don’t fight!" they urged.
Guo Xiaojun, wild-eyed, looked at the onlookers who were too frightened to intervene. "I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!"
The man, infuriated, slapped Guo Xiaojun hard across the face, sending her sprawling aside. He quickly got back on his feet.
He grabbed a handful of her hair and forced her to look up at him, his face twisted with rage as he slapped her cheek again. "You filthy bitch! You think you can hit me? This is how I bully you!"
Not satisfied yet, he kicked her legs a few times, causing Guo Xiaojun to roll on the ground in pain, clutching her legs.
When the train police arrived and saw Guo Xiaojun in distress, they were taken aback. They hurriedly pulled the man away from her. Seeing the police had come, Guo Xiaojun sat on the ground and cried out loud.
"I can’t live like this anymore! They’re bullying me!"
"I'll have my brother-in-law deal with you; he’s an officer in the military and will definitely take care of you!"
"Come on then! Let him come!"
"You!" Guo Xiaojun pointed furiously at the man. "Just wait!"
The train police felt a headache coming on; they had only stepped out for a brief check of the compartments when she had come out and stirred up trouble.
"Both of you, come over here."
"Alright, everyone disperse and return to your seats."
The train officer cleared the crowd and returned to the dining car.
As they traveled, Lu Chen felt a bit uncomfortable, and Wen Qian was also struggling. Although they had booked soft sleepers, it was their first time on a train, and they found it hard to adjust.
Both of them lay down on their beds to rest.
That night, Guo Xiaojun returned, quickly running back to her upper bunk while covering her swollen face. She obediently lay down.
The night passed quickly, and by morning, they would soon arrive at their destination.
In the morning, Guo Xiaojun was much quieter and stopped causing trouble. She lay peacefully in bed, eating the steamed buns she had brought whenever she felt hungry.
The aroma of the pickles that Wen Qian had brought wafted over, making her unconsciously swallow. She looked at the bland steamed bun in her hand and, despite its lack of flavor, took a few more bites just from smelling the pickles.
Finally, she couldn't hold back any longer and quietly asked Wen Qian, "Can I have some of your pickles?"
Guo Xiaojun watched as Aunt Tian and Wen Qian enjoyed their meal, saliva involuntarily pooling in her mouth.
"No way."
Wen Qian herself didn’t have enough to eat; Aunt Tian had only eaten a little bit, and that was exchanged for something else.
Guo Xiaojun wanted to get something for free? That wasn’t going to happen; she wasn’t some kind-hearted person.
Besides, how much conflict had there been between them? Didn’t she know? Couldn’t she stop pretending to be oblivious?
"Why are you so stingy? It’s just a little bit of pickles!"
She initially thought about giving up, but the smell was too enticing. She bit her lip and mustered the courage to continue, "My brother-in-law is in the same unit as your husband. We’ll be in the same place in the future. If you let me have some now, I’ll definitely help you later."
"Help me? Just don’t stab me in the back later; that would be enough."
She actually thought she could help? What a daydream!
"My sister’s name is Guo Dajuan; Auntie, you must know her since you’ve been to the family compound so many times!"
There it was—the connection!
Guo Xiaojun saw Aunt Tian’s momentary surprise and felt a flicker of triumph in her heart. Her sister really was quite impressive!
"Auntie, my elder sister is quite nice, isn't she? She's a good person and never causes trouble with others."
Aunt Tian paused her meal and looked at her. "So, what you mean is that I like to stir up trouble with others?"
"Auntie, that's not what I meant!"
"If that's not what you meant, then I think that's exactly what you meant! How many times have I clashed with your sister? And here you are, running to me to speak ill of her. It seems you don’t care about your own life."
Guo Xiaojun's face turned as hard as the bottom of a pot, dark and grimy. She hadn’t expected to fall into this trap. She had flattered too much and ended up missing the mark.
"You don’t need to say so much; that’s exactly what you mean."
After saying this, Aunt Tian lost interest in the conversation and focused on her meal. Guo Xiaojun felt quite subdued for having said the wrong thing.
The morning passed quickly, and the train had arrived at its destination. This was the last stop, so they waited until most of the passengers had disembarked before getting off themselves.
Once they stepped off the train, it was neither crowded nor hot—just right!
As they walked along, they began searching for the vehicle sent by their unit.
"Boss! Boss! Over here!" A man's voice called out as Lu Zheng led them over.
Just as he placed their luggage in the vehicle, Lu Zheng handed Xiao Chen over to another comrade when a woman's playful complaint reached his ears.
"Lu Zheng, you're finally back! I've been waiting for you for so long!"
