Lu Zheng looked up at the sky, twisting his wrist to check his watch. He frowned slightly, seeming a bit restless. 0

He glanced at the remaining few people, pressed his lips together in impatience, then crouched down to examine the substance smeared on the ground. 0

"Brother, if we can survive this, it’s really over for us," one of them pleaded. "I beg you, don’t kill me! I truly know nothing; I was tricked here by Liu." 0

The man looked at Lu Zheng as he whispered his desperate plea. However, the light reflecting off something nearby momentarily blinded him, and suddenly he seemed to catch a glimpse of Lu Zheng's eyes. 0

In an instant, he felt his body go limp and collapsed onto the ground, warmth and wetness spreading beneath him. 0

Lu Zheng caught a whiff of the scent lingering in the air and frowned. With a swift motion of his arm, he efficiently dealt with the situation. 0

After taking a turn, he finally stood before Liu. 0

Liu was filled with regret—why had he stopped that bastard? Why had he sought him out to buy women? Why had he insisted on getting a few thousand dollars? 0

Noticing the cold glint of a blade, Liu looked at Lu Zheng in terror; he was already soaked with fear and despair as he gazed up at Lu Zheng. 0

His voice trembled as he asked, "Why are you doing this to us?" 0

"You brought this upon yourselves," Lu Zheng replied coldly. "You should have listened to your wife." 0

He intended to make them wish they were dead, to suffer unbearably. 0

As the last target to be dealt with, Liu was quickly resolved. 0

Lu Zheng had practiced this many times before; it was second nature now. 0

He gathered several snake-skin bags and rolled them up to carry them away. He glanced at the people lying on the ground before looking up at the mountain peak. 0

The howls of wolves echoed continuously, growing clearer and louder. 0

The metallic scent of blood thickened in the air as Lu Zheng slowly turned and strode away, the sounds of distress following behind him. 0

The people on the ground lay motionless, listening to the increasingly loud wolf howls, their hearts racing with anxiety as they wished for a swift end but found themselves powerless. 0

Reaching the foot of the mountain, Lu Zheng pushed his cart slowly toward a small stream where he stopped and carefully approached. 0

He crouched down to wash off some dirt, ensuring everything was clean. He took off his shirt and rinsed it in the water before wiping it down and putting it back into its sheath. 0

Standing up, he pushed the cart homeward. 0

At that moment, when a sound came from the front door, Wen Qian immediately got up and rushed outside. She anxiously watched the person entering through the door and quickly approached him. 0

"Are you okay?" she asked with concern, suddenly noticing that he was shirtless and fearing he might be injured. She quickly pulled him inside. 0

Once inside, Wen Qian looked him over but found no wounds, only the scar on his chest. She let out a sigh of relief and closed her eyes for a moment. "As long as you're fine. Have you taken care of everything?" 0

"Yes, I did as you instructed," Lu Zheng replied. 0

Wen Qian furrowed her brows in confusion as she observed Lu Zheng's serious demeanor. "How did you handle it?" 0

"I listened to you and did exactly what you said." 0

Her curiosity deepened as she watched him. Why was he so tight-lipped? Why wouldn’t he just tell her? 0

"Fine! If you don’t want to say anything, then don’t. As long as those problems are dealt with, that’s all that matters. I know Lu Zheng wouldn’t lie to me." 0

Moreover, she understood that Lu Zheng was not someone who showed mercy; anyone who could rise so quickly in such a short time must have some real skills. 0

As she turned to leave, her gaze fell on Lu Zheng's pants, where she noticed a dark circular spot. Suddenly, she caught a faint scent of blood coming from him—a smell she was particularly sensitive to. 0

In her past life, when she had been trapped in the cellar and often beaten, bleeding had become a part of her daily existence. Thus, she was acutely aware of the smell of blood. 0

Wen Qian paused mid-turn, pretending not to notice anything unusual. 0

Lu Zheng immediately looked down and saw the spot. He turned to the cabinet and pulled out a change of clothes before stepping outside. 0

When he went out, he found Lu Yao lying on the ground and bent down to grab one of his ankles. As he moved, Lu Yao began to stir and was soon tossed out of the Lu family’s front door, landing in the middle of the road. 0

After locking the door behind him, Lu Zheng took a shower before returning inside. 0

As he passed by Wen Qian, she caught a whiff of soap and turned to look at him. Seeing his unguarded expression made it clear that he had likely used her soap without asking. 0

A smile crept onto Wen Qian's lips, and a hint of warmth flickered in her eyes as she gazed at Lu Zheng. 0

Lu Zheng unconsciously lay down on the bed and pulled their son, Lu Chen, closer to him. 0

In a stiff tone, he said, "Our son doesn’t sleep well; let him stay close to me." 0

Wen Qian chuckled softly and nodded in agreement. "Alright." 0

After the three settled down to sleep, Wen Qian listened to the distant howls of wolves. She turned her head toward the mountains for a moment before glancing back at Lu Zheng. 0

The two of them collided, and though no words were spoken, everything was conveyed in that moment. 0

On the mountain, a few people waited for the wolves to arrive as if they were waiting for death itself, but instead of wolves, they found themselves confronted by mice and ants. The ants crawled along the trail of blood, and some of them slipped and fell right into their wounds. 0

Immediately, the ants began to struggle, causing the man to scream in agony. The companions beside him felt their scalps tingle with fear as they deeply sensed the horror of the situation. Yet before they could fully grasp their fear, they too experienced the same excruciating pain. 0

Several people continued to howl, while the sound of squeaking mice echoed in their ears. Soon after, another layer of suffering was added to their torment. At that moment, they desperately wished for the wolves at the mountain's peak to arrive quickly so that they could put an end to this pain. 0

However, hope often stands in stark contrast to reality; what one desires is frequently unattainable. That night, the mountain was anything but peaceful. Those living at the foot of the mountain vaguely heard sounds and turned over in their sleep, thinking it was just a dream. Even when they heard the howls of wolves, their only concern was whether their doors were securely closed. 0

In the middle of the night, Lu Yao was awakened by a lick. As he opened his eyes, he found himself staring into a pair of eyes, startling him into a swift rise. 0
