Wen Qian smiled and said, "Comrade, please ask your questions." 0

"What is your relationship with them?" The police officer pointed at Lu's father and the others. 0

"I am the grandmother, and they are my daughters-in-law." 0

"Could you please explain what exactly happened?" 0

Wen Qian briefly recounted the events. "Comrade, that's about it." 0

The police officer frowned. "Did you see the two children who went missing?" 0

"I saw them at home, but then I went back to my room. After that, I don't know what happened." 0

The police officer observed Wen Qian's demeanor and concluded she wasn't lying. He nodded and turned to Lu Zheng. "Comrade, hello. Could you please share your account?" 0

"I just got home around noon and have no idea what happened." 0

"Where were you before noon?" 0

Lu Zheng had no choice but to present his military ID. "I just returned from the army." 0

After reviewing it, the police officer saluted Lu Zheng and returned the ID. "Thank you for your cooperation!" 0

Cui Cui, Lu's father, and Zhang Yan were separated for questioning. Cui Cui stammered and struggled to articulate her thoughts, while Lu's father lay on the ground, unresponsive to questions. 0

"The village chief is here! The village chief is here!" 0

As the village chief squeezed through the crowd, he noticed several police officers in the yard and approached with a furrowed brow. "Hello, police comrade! I am the village chief!" 0

"Hello. We need you to come with us to the police station for some questions." 0

The police officers directly took Lu Yao, Zhang Yan, and the village chief away, while Cui Cui and Lu's father were also instructed to follow. 0

Lu Zheng, Wen Qian, and Lu Chen trailed behind them. 0

The yard was now completely empty. Seeing Lu's father nearly on the verge of collapse from blood loss, the village chief called for a bullock cart from the village to take them to the police station. 0

On the way there, Lu Chen looked frightened and burrowed into Lu Zheng's embrace. Lu Zheng gently patted his back to comfort him. "Don't be afraid!" 0

Wen Qian looked at him, her thoughts becoming more certain in her heart. 0

Upon arriving at the police station, several individuals were separated for questioning. Lu Yao and Zhang Yan, as key witnesses, were interrogated multiple times. In the end, only Wen Qian, Lu Zheng, and the village chief walked out of the police station. Cui Ceng and Lu's father remained in the hospital, waiting to be questioned. 0

As they stepped outside, night had already fallen. The group climbed onto an ox cart and swayed back to the village. 0

Once inside her home, Wen Qian sat on the bed, staring at Lu Zheng, taking a few deep breaths. Lu Zheng placed the already sleeping Lu Chen on the bed and turned to Wen Qian, his eyes dark and heavy. He suddenly spoke up. 0

"The disappearances of Lu and Lu Feng are related to you, aren't they?" 0

Wen Qian looked up at him. "Are you questioning me?" 0

Lu Zheng shook his head. "I’m not. I just want to clarify things. If it weren't for me, we would be the ones frantically searching for our child; it would be Xiao Chen who was abducted, and I would have gone mad. When you returned, you would have found only our corpses." 0

"Wasn't that how it was in the last life?" 0

Although Lu Zheng had avenged them upon his return, by the time he found her, her body had long since vanished. All he found was a red string! When he located his son, it was just after he had been killed; he had taken his last breath. 0

Silence fell over the room as his voice turned hoarse. He murmured, "What do you plan to do? I will follow your lead." 0

Wen Qian's eyes were bloodshot as she gazed at him. He had not been reborn; he could not understand the pain she endured in her previous life or her despair. 0

"I want them to perish on their own, to live a miserable life filled with self-inflicted struggles, forever immersed in suffering." 0

She wanted them to experience the pain she had felt in her past life; they should not live peacefully nor die easily. They must suffer through each day, tormenting themselves relentlessly. 0

Lu Zheng looked at her in surprise; he realized she had changed more than he could have imagined. From the inside out, she seemed like a completely different person. 0

Unconsciously, he touched his pocket and felt something inside; his thoughts grew heavy. 0

In a hoarse voice, Lu Zheng said, "Let me make you something to eat; you've been busy for so long without a meal." 0

He started to walk outside but suddenly turned back to retrieve some items from the bag he had brought with him and handed them to Wen Qian. 0

"Here, have something to tide you over." 0

As he turned to leave again, Wen Qian grabbed his arm. "The pot in the kitchen is ruined; both the clay pot and rice flour are still in the cupboard." 0

Lu Zheng widened his eyes slightly as he looked at her, causing Wen Qian to feel a bit embarrassed under his gaze. Although she did not regret the uproar she had caused, it still felt somewhat awkward to speak so openly about it. 0

Lu Zheng smirked and turned to grab some items from the cabinet to prepare dinner in the kitchen. The room fell silent again as Wen Qian sat on the edge of the bed, glancing at the things in her hands before setting them aside. She slowly shifted closer to Lu Chen, watching his peaceful sleeping face, and let out a sigh of relief, smiling. 0

She had succeeded; she had changed her son's fate. After days of being on high alert, she felt a bit unaccustomed to this sudden relaxation. The human traffickers must have taken Lu He and Lu Feng far away by now. 0

In her past life, the traffickers had indeed left only after some time, and it was because she had been threatened by the Lu family that she missed the best opportunity to act. By the time she called the police, they had already vanished without a trace. 0

This time, perhaps because she had gained two chubby boys, Lu Chen was too thin and dark to compare with them, which might have altered their plans. As for the few people at the police station, their ultimate fate would depend on whether they would turn against each other. 0

The final outcome would surely be as she wished. 0

Every household in the village was bustling with activity; something significant had happened in the Lu family that involved human traffickers. The two children who were mischievous and came home late were given a good beating and sternly warned not to return so late again. 0

Children were always quick to spread news among themselves, and soon they learned the reason behind it all. While they were scared, they also harbored resentment towards the Lu family. If it weren't for them, they wouldn't have been punished by their parents, nor would their playtime have been reduced. 0

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Wen Qian heard it and stepped out of her room to find Aunt Ying standing there with two bowls in her hands. 0

Seeing them both safe made Aunt Ying breathe a sigh of relief. "You two haven't eaten yet at this late hour! Hurry up and eat; I saved some for you." 0

Inside the bowls were two pancakes that clearly had been made with white flour from home. Nowadays, farmers cherished even a small handful of white flour, so these pancakes must have used quite a bit. 0

Wen Qian could easily picture Aunt Ying's pained expression while preparing these meals with such precious ingredients, causing her eyes to moisten as she couldn't help but laugh softly. 0

In her past life, it was Aunt Ying's son who helped her report to the police. Without Aunt Ying's assistance, she might never have known even the slightest news about her son in the end. 0
