Lu Wen and Lu Feng were kidnapped by human traffickers?
Outside the door, the villagers erupted into chaos, discussing fervently. Some, worried about their own children, hurried off to search for them.
At this moment, the Lu family also noticed the crowd gathering outside. Lu Father kicked Ding Cuihua and lowered his voice, saying, "Close the door."
Ding Cuihua, holding her waist and grimacing in pain, stood up and walked to the entrance. She glared at the villagers watching with eager eyes and shouted angrily, "What are you looking at? Haven't you seen someone else's family before? Get lost!"
With that, she slammed the door shut.
The villagers looked disdainfully at the closed door. "Hmph, as if we wanted to watch. It's not our fault your family's commotion is so loud."
"Exactly, it's your fault for losing your children."
In the courtyard, Lu Father's gaunt face revealed a fierce expression as he cast a venomous glance at Lu Chen before shifting his gaze to Lu Zheng.
"You look for Xiao Feng and Xiao Wen, but don't call the police."
Although he wasn't entirely clear on what Lu Yao and Zhang Yan had done, it was evident after a while. These two fools had sent someone to abduct a lowly child but ended up having their own grandchildren taken instead.
Lu Zheng met his gaze steadily and replied slowly, "Calling the police is non-negotiable."
Since they had made a mistake, they had to pay the price. Not to mention that the ones in danger were his children.
Lu Zheng looked outside the courtyard and spotted a familiar figure. He gave Wen Qian a reassuring glance before walking toward the door. Opening it, he addressed a man outside. "Zhuzi, could you please help me report this to the police? I’ll compensate you for any lost work points."
Zhuzi's eyes sparkled as he looked at Lu Zheng, excitedly exclaiming, "Lu Zheng Ge! It's really you! You've come back!"
"Don't worry; I'll go right now," Zhuzi said as he dashed toward the village entrance.
Lu Zheng closed the door and turned around just in time to see a shadow rushing toward him. He sidestepped and kicked back.
The teapot narrowly missed Lu Father's ear before crashing to the ground with a sharp sound.
Lu Father's face turned as dark as a pot bottom, his expression grim.
Wen Qian watched as Lu Yao and Zhang Yan sat on the ground like lost souls. Others might not understand, but she knew why.
If Lu Wen and Lu Feng weren't found this time, the Lu family would be left without heirs.
Oh no, unless Lu Father could still...
Zhang Yan's vacant gaze met Wen Qian's eyes, suddenly sharpening as she stood up and lunged at her with outstretched hands.
"You wretched woman! It's all your fault! If it weren't for you, my son wouldn't have been abducted! It's all because of you!"
Lu Zheng wanted to step forward to intervene, but he was frozen in place by Wen Qian's fierce gaze.
Wen Qian stood calmly, watching the frenzied Zhang Yan. As soon as Zhang approached her, she lifted her foot and kicked. Zhang was knocked to the ground, and as she attempted to get back up to strike Wen Qian again, Wen Qian kicked her down once more.
Eventually, Wen Qian grew tired of the game and delivered a powerful kick that left Zhang unable to rise again.
Someone peered through the crack in the door, eyes wide in disbelief. "My goodness, when did Wen Qian become so formidable? She was nearly bullied to death by the Lu family before and never fought back!"
Zhang lay on the ground, clutching the spot where she had been kicked, moaning in pain and curling up, too afraid to move. Ding Cuihua had long since run behind Lu's father for safety.
Lu Chen watched Zhang Yan without making any move at all.
Lu Zheng approached Wen Qian, surprise flickering in his eyes as he looked at her. In his memory, she had always worn a gentle smile, her demeanor soft and sweet; even her voice was tender. When had she transformed into this?
It was all his fault.
Lu Chen no longer hid behind Wen Qian or buried himself in her embrace. Instead, he clung to Lu Zheng's neck, wide-eyed as he observed everything happening in the yard, including his mother's actions against Zhang.
Fear and timidity seemed to have vanished, replaced by curiosity and excitement.
Noticing his mother’s expression, Lu Chen raised both small hands and clapped them together bashfully, smiling as he said, "Mommy is amazing!"
Wen Qian's previously expressionless face broke into a smile, tears shimmering in her eyes. She could live without a husband, but little Chen could not grow up without a father!
She needed Lu Zheng now more than ever to escape this place of turmoil. Otherwise, with hidden dangers lurking around every corner and the malicious intentions of the Lu family behind their backs, it would be impossible to protect themselves.
Just then, Zhuzi arrived with the police. As they entered the yard and surveyed the chaotic scene, one officer frowned and asked sternly, "What’s going on? Someone reported that there are human traffickers here."
Lu's father hurried over with trembling legs and urgently said, "Comrade police, there are no human traffickers here! They must have reported it wrong!" He glanced threateningly at Lu Zheng and Wen Qian as he spoke.
As Lu Zheng moved forward to say something, he was stopped by Wen Qian grabbing his arm. She shook her head at him; while she wanted them imprisoned, letting them torment each other seemed far more entertaining.
Since they didn’t want the two heirs of the old Lu family, she certainly wouldn’t care either.
The police officer looked at Lu Zheng and Wen Qian before turning his serious gaze back to Lu's father and asking sternly, "Are you sure there’s really nothing?"
"Absolutely nothing! I assure you!" Lu's father insisted vehemently.
As the police were about to leave, a man in the crowd suddenly shouted, "If not, then what about Lu Wen and Lu Feng from your family?"
The police turned back to look at Lu's father.
Lu's father stammered, "They are at Zhangjia Village... they are at their grandmother's house."
The villagers fell silent, and the police once again turned to Lu's father with a serious expression.
Lu's father stubbornly shook his head.
With no other choice, the police had to leave. Before departing, they turned to the villagers and said, "If you suspect there are human traffickers, be sure to inform the police station."
After the police left, Lu's father hurriedly locked the door and collapsed onto a stool, as if he had just released all his strength.
Wen Qian let out a cold laugh, which made him glare at her darkly.
She laughed outright, causing Lu's father's expression to darken even further.
In his own home, Lu's father was formidable, but outside he was like a pushover, easily kicked around by anyone. Yet he was cunning and malicious, always scheming behind the scenes while pretending to be oblivious.
Ding Cuihua was like a rabid dog that bit indiscriminately; Lu's father was the venomous snake lurking in the shadows, striking when his enemies were most vulnerable.
Lu Yao and Zhang Yan were two brainless fools; they rarely used their heads unless pushed into a corner. But even then, they often managed to mess things up more than succeed.
Wen Qian could only lament that in her past life she had only seen their true colors after her death.
When the police arrived, Zhang Yan and Lu Yao trembled in fear, not daring to lift their heads. However, once the police left, they suddenly released all their tension and collapsed onto the ground.
Their minds were racing with turmoil.
Lu's father lowered his head, his eyes flickering as he pondered something unknown.
"It's fine; if we lose those two kids, we can have more later, but we cannot lose our son."
Wen Qian had long guessed Lu's father's thoughts; in her previous life, she had fallen victim to his schemes too many times to count.
Zhang Yan was someone from the Lu family that they could not afford to offend.
