Ding Cuiying glared at Wen Qian as she entered, her slanted eyes filled with malice, gritting her teeth in anger. 0

"All you lazy bones, you worthless scoundrels! Why don't you just drop dead instead of waiting for an old woman like me to cook for you?" 0

She glanced at the dirty clothes in Wen Qian's hands and let out a cold snort, feeling quite pleased with herself. 0

"Hmph, now you know you've done wrong! If you know you've messed up, then wash the clothes belonging to me and your father too." 0

Wen Qian's lips curled into a slight smile, a complex look flashing in her eyes as she stood up and went outside to bring in the clothes of the elderly couple. 0

Seeing this, Ding Cuiying raised her head proudly, looking down on Wen Qian with disdain. 0

"This little wretch needs a good beating. If I hit her a few more times, she'll learn to behave." 0

Taking advantage of Ding Cuiying's momentary absence, Wen Qian quickly stuffed all the clothes into the stove and added some dry twigs inside. 0

The flames roared to life, and as Wen Qian pumped the bellows a few times, the fire blazed even brighter, licking out from the stove. 0

Watching the clothes slowly turn to ashes, Wen Qian couldn't help but smile happily. 0

When Ding Cuiying returned and saw what Wen Qian was doing, she was furious. "What are you burning? There's nothing in the pot; it'll explode if you keep this up!" 0

Wen Qian blocked her path, glancing at the pot that was nearly ready. With a smirk, she turned to Ding Cuiying. 0

"Of course, I'm burning your dirty clothes! Since you threw them at my doorstep, I might as well help you get rid of them. No need to thank me." 0

"You little wretch! Are you crazy? Get out of my way!" 0

Ding Cuiying's eyes widened in disbelief as she heard this. She rushed over to the stove to retrieve the clothes with a stick. 0

Wen Qian glanced back at her before dashing out of the kitchen. Seeing that everyone was coming out of their rooms, she shouted loudly, "The kitchen is on fire! Hurry and save someone!" 0

A few people rushed over but hadn’t even entered when they heard a loud bang from inside the kitchen. 0

"Oh no!" 0

Ding Cuiying emerged covered in soot, her clothes singed with spots of fire, glaring at Wen Qian with venomous eyes as if she wanted to tear her apart. 0

"You wretched girl! You actually dared to burn our clothes and blow up the pot! You think I won't kill you for this?" 0

Lu Yao and Zhang Yan were also covered in ash from the explosion. They quickly looked towards Wen Qian's doorway and realized their clothes were already gone. 0

"Crazy woman! You burned our clothes too!" 0

Wen Qian lazily leaned against the door of the thatched house, too lazy even to look at them as she spoke slowly. "You threw them at my doorstep; I found them annoying and just helped you burn them." 0

Zhang Yan glared at her with a face full of soot, furious as her sharp voice echoed through the yard. "You were supposed to wash them! Have you forgotten?" 0

"I forgot," Wen Qian replied nonchalantly. 0

What was she even talking about? Wen Qian thought it was high time someone taught her a lesson about respect. Just then, she noticed Lu Yao approaching her with a stick in hand, his body covered in mud and ash. He puffed out his chest and raised his arms high like a fighting rooster—no, more like a muddy chicken. 0

Unbeknownst to herself, Wen Qian had already grasped a stick for revenge. As soon as Lu Yao's stick came into view, she swiftly grabbed it from him. 0

Her palms were calloused from hard work; this little pain didn’t bother her at all as she yanked it away forcefully. Lu Yao stared blankly at his empty hands before looking up at Wen Qian holding both sticks. 0

A single thought echoed in his mind: "It's over." 0

Wen Qian swung both sticks toward him without hesitation; he truly underestimated himself by daring to challenge her without considering his own strength. 0

The Lu family usually worked lazily on their tasks, finding easy jobs while squeezing every bit of effort out of her—making her do double the work alone while ensuring that neither she nor Xiao Chen could eat if they didn’t finish. 0

Ding Cuiying watched anxiously as her son was being beaten; she wanted to step in but feared getting hit herself. The pain from being beaten by this wretched girl still lingered; she couldn’t even turn over in bed at night without agony threatening to take her life away. 0

Lu Yao was running around in a panic, with Wen Qian chasing after him, striking him unexpectedly. To her surprise, Lu Yao actually ran around the courtyard, and she didn’t stop him but followed him as he circled the yard. As she passed by Zhang Yan and Ding Cuiying, she took the opportunity to hit them a few times as well; such a good opportunity had to be enjoyed. 0

The old thief Lu had long sensed that the situation was turning against him and had retreated into the house. Seeing that it was almost time to start working and feeling tired from the beating, Wen Qian finally stopped. 0

With her hands on her hips, she looked at the three people in the yard who were howling in pain, and a sense of pleasure rose within her. Hitting people felt exhilarating—not just any kind of exhilaration. Looking at them sprawled on the ground reminded her of how she had once lay there herself, bleeding alongside Xiao Chen. 0

She felt that she hadn’t hit hard enough; without drawing blood, it just didn’t satisfy her both physically and mentally. 0

Wen Qian went straight into the house. Once the yard fell silent, she immediately headed to the chicken coop. She entered and quickly caught two chickens, tying them up with straw ropes. It was time to kill some chickens. 0

With a swift motion, she dispatched both chickens. There was still a clay pot left from when they had made medicine earlier, just right for making soup. One chicken would be roasted for eating. 0

As she opened the cupboard, she discovered that there were quite a few eggs and some flour inside, which she promptly moved to her own room. 0

After working hard for a while, the chicken was roasted, and the soup was simmering nicely. She looked up at the blazing sun overhead and listened to the sounds outside. It seemed like it was noon and time for work to end. 0

The door was intentionally left ajar; the enticing aroma wafted through the house. The entire Lu family hadn’t even entered yet when they caught a whiff of the delicious scent, their mouths watering. 0

Lu and Lu Feng were clamoring around Ding Cuiying, saying, "Grandma! I want to eat meat! I want to eat meat!" 0

"Good grandchildren! Grandma doesn’t have any meat right now. Wait until another day when Grandma buys some meat to cook for you." 0

"I don’t want that! I want to eat it now! If you don’t give it to me, I’ll hit you!" 0

As they spoke, the two children began punching and kicking Ding Cuiying while cursing loudly. 0

Ding Cuiying looked at her two grandsons crying out in distress and felt a pang of sympathy; she quickly agreed. "Alright! Grandma will cook eggs for you later." 0

"We don’t want eggs! We want meat! Give us meat or we’ll make your life miserable!" 0

The closer they got to home, the stronger the aroma became. The group exchanged glances before hurriedly pushing open the door to enter. 0

Indeed, the delicious smell was coming from their own home. Following the scent led them to see Wen Qian and Lu Chen each holding a chicken leg while steaming chicken soup sat in front of them. 0

"Meat! I want to eat meat!" 0

Lu Feng’s eyes lit up as he lunged forward, but Wen Qian quickly shut the door behind her and stepped out. She kicked away the two little rascals who had pounced on her as Lu Feng and Lu rolled around on the ground in protest. 0

Ding Cuiying glared at Wen Qian with furious eyes as she panted heavily in anger over the missing chickens from the coop. "You wicked girl! How dare you eat my chickens? You little disaster!" 0

"Oh heavens! What sin have I committed? Hurry up and take her away!" 0

Ding Cuiying dared not strike Wen Qian again; every time she tried, she ended up getting beaten badly instead. 0

Zhang Yan pointed at Wen Qian’s face with jealousy etched across her features as she spoke haughtily. "Wen Qian! How can you eat meat behind our backs? Hurry up and give it back to us!" 0

Lu and Lu Feng rolled on the ground, covered in mud, with unknown substances sticking to their clothes. 0

Ding Cuiying's chest heaved with anger as she opened her mouth to curse. "Damn it, how can that little brat be so greedy? Why not just cut her off altogether?" 0

That little wench, I truly regret marrying you. 0

Lu's veins bulged on his forehead, his face darker than a pot bottom. He slammed the straw hat he was holding onto Ding Cuiying and glared at her with furrowed brows. "Enough! Hurry up and cook; I'm starving! We have work to do this afternoon!" 0

Ding Cuiying smelled the delicious aroma of chicken and salivated, her triangular eyes reddening with rage as she stomped into the kitchen. 0

When she opened the cupboard and saw it empty, she shouted, "We've been robbed! The flour and eggs are all gone—everything is gone! Old man, come here quickly!" 0

Lu glanced over at Wen Qian and understood immediately what had happened. Gasping for breath, he managed to say, "Shut up and just cook." 0

Ding Cuiying realized what was going on and angrily threw her chopsticks to the ground, cursing under her breath with a twisted expression on her face. 0

Wen Qian watched them from the courtyard as they drank cool water and nibbled on steamed buns, her eyes constantly darting in their direction. 0

Lu and Lu Feng were reluctant to eat, but Lu, in a fit of anger, kicked them a few times with his shoe before they obediently sat down at the table, crying as they began to eat. 0

At the dining table, Lu Feng and Lu sobbed continuously, their mouths full of steamed buns that scratched their throats; there was no chicken to savor. 0

Lu Chen cautiously peeked outside before turning back to Wen Qian with a smile. "Mom seems different somehow?" 0

In the courtyard, Lu's face was completely darkened with rage as he slammed his chopsticks onto the ground. He lowered his gaze at the thatched cottage, a chilling glare in his eyes. 0

Lu Yao and Zhang Yan were so angry that they barely touched their food. Later that afternoon, while resting in the woods before work, Zhang Yan wiped the sweat from her forehead and asked Lu Yao, who lay on the ground, "Did you meet two human traffickers recently?" 0

"Yeah? What do you want to do about it?" 0

That little wench Wen Qian is hard to deal with; can we not handle this little brat Lu Chen? Go find those two people and sell him off to make up for the losses she's caused us lately. 0

Lu Yao was shocked and sat up to look at Zhang Yan. Hesitantly, he replied, "But that's illegal! If we get caught, we'll go to jail." 0

Zhang Yan glared at him fiercely, a ruthless glint in her eyes. "If you don't say anything and I don't say anything, who will know? She's been so rampant at home; if we don't teach her a lesson, how will we survive?" 0

Lu Yao touched his injuries and gritted his teeth. "Fine! I'll go find them right now and have them come by tomorrow morning." 0
