A mysterious disappearance occurred, and when her family finally saw her again, she had been stripped of her clothes and thrown into a pond at the foot of a desolate mountain. Why was she murdered? Who was the killer?
Date of Incident: October 10, 2014.
Location: Guangdong Province, Kaiping City.
In the afternoon, an elderly man named Wang went fishing by a pond in the northern part of Cangcheng Town. To his horror, he discovered a female corpse floating on the water's surface. Shocked, he quickly called the police.
The police arrived at the scene promptly and began a thorough investigation. They found that the body was highly decomposed, making it difficult to discern the victim's facial features. However, based on years of experience, the forensic expert was still able to make some educated guesses about the deceased.
The victim was a young woman, approximately 25 years old, standing about 1.6 meters tall, and completely naked. Not far from the body, the police discovered a motorcycle helmet that appeared to be somewhat worn.
In the grass by the riverbank, they found two pieces of men's clothing: a long jacket and a blue shirt. Additionally, near the body were two apples.
This puzzled the police; it seemed unlikely that apples would be found in such a remote area. They speculated that the apples might have been left by either the victim or the suspect.
While examining the scene, the forensic expert conducted an autopsy and found no obvious external injuries on the body. However, there were clear ligature marks around her neck. The police initially deduced that she had been strangled with a rope, leading to asphyxiation. Nearby, they also discovered some broken hemp ropes.
Upon reconstructing the ends of those ropes, investigators noted they formed three distinct loops. This raised further questions for them since such loops are not typically made by an ordinary person and their purpose remained unclear.
The area surrounding where the body was dumped was densely forested with overgrown weeds, and there were no signs of a struggle at the dumping site. The police speculated that this was likely not the primary crime scene but merely where the body had been disposed of.
Due to the advanced state of decomposition, investigators estimated that the victim had died approximately eight days prior.
During the autopsy process, another crucial detail emerged: three of her front teeth were broken, and it appeared they had been fractured long before her death—not as a result of her murder.
The police concluded that without resolving the issue surrounding the rope knot, solving this case would be challenging. They closely examined this particular rope knot and noted it showed significant wear and was tied in a very unusual manner.
The police arrived at a cattle ranch and discovered that a particular type of rope was extensively used on the cattle. However, the ranch owner informed them that this rope knot was not meant for the cattle but rather for a hand tractor.
Based on the clues provided by the ranch owner, the police began investigating individuals in the vicinity who operated hand tractors.
One person named Lao Mou came into focus. Upon investigation, the police found that not only could Lao Mou operate a hand tractor, but he was also quite skilled at it. What raised further suspicion was that just a few days after A Zhen went missing, Lao Mou had gone out to work.
The police returned to the gas station where A Zhen used to work. A former colleague of hers revealed that one of her ex-boyfriends was indeed named Lao Mou.
Subsequently, A Zhen's colleague informed the police that A Zhen had a complex social life and numerous male friends who frequently visited the gas station looking for her.
The police conducted a deeper investigation into Lao Mou and discovered that he was nearly 40 years old and still unmarried, living in poverty. He had been dating A Zhen for over a year, but their relationship was ambiguous.
Lao Mou and A Zhen had met through an introduction. Lao Mou knew that A Zhen's husband was a drug addict, but he didn't mind. A Zhen had also confided in him about her thoughts of divorce, which led to them frequently meeting in private.
However, for reasons unknown, Lao Mou gradually noticed that A Zhen began to deliberately avoid him. Even when they did meet, she was cold towards him, leading to arguments between them. This behavior made the police suspect that Lao Mou had significant motives for committing a crime.
Moreover, two pieces of male clothing found at the crime scene were confirmed by Lao Mou's neighbor to belong to him. The police believed Lao Mou was a prime suspect and decided to apprehend him.
Through their investigation, the police learned that Lao Mou was working at a construction site in Guangzhou. They quickly went to the site and disguised themselves as workers to catch Lao Mou off guard and arrest him. During interrogation, Lao Mou surprisingly confessed to killing A Zhen without hesitation.
According to Lao Mou's confession, he killed A Zhen because she had deceived him, and he felt no remorse for his actions.
Lao Mou explained that he and A Zhen had met through an introduction and that she was unhappy in her marriage. He did not mind that she had been married before. A Zhen had once said that once A Qiang came out of the rehabilitation center, she would divorce him and marry Lao Mou instead.
Moved by her words, Lao Mou frequently sent money and gifts to A Zhen over their year-long relationship. He spent hundreds of thousands on her—his entire savings—yet A Zhen remained unsatisfied and secretly dated other men behind his back.
Lao Mou discovered the situation and visited A Zhen's workplace at the gas station several times, hoping she would provide an explanation. However, A Zhen remained indifferent to him, lacking the enthusiasm she once had. On October 1st, Lao Mou approached A Zhen again, wanting to discuss marriage, but she claimed she didn't have time.
After A Zhen finished work, Lao Mou secretly followed her and saw her with another man, behaving intimately. He even witnessed them going to a hotel after dinner, which made him furious, feeling deceived by A Zhen.
The next day at noon, Lao Mou called A Zhen and invited her to his rented apartment. Without much thought, she agreed to come over.
Once at the apartment, the two succumbed to their desires and engaged in sexual relations. However, during their encounter, A Zhen suddenly said some provocative words to Lao Mou, calling him a loser and incompetent.
Lao Mou was infuriated and accused A Zhen of seeing other men behind his back. He demanded that she repay him for the money he spent on her, which angered her greatly.
They then had a fierce argument, with A Zhen verbally insulting Lao Mou. His rage escalated, and their intimate moment came to an abrupt end.
At that moment, A Zhen got up to take a shower while an enraged Lao Mou contemplated murder. Seizing the opportunity while she was in the bathroom, he grabbed a nearby rope and, after tying a knot, strangled A Zhen from behind.
After killing her, Lao Mou was shocked by how far things had escalated. As night fell, he took advantage of the darkness to wrap A Zhen's body in a large cardboard box.
However, due to her size, the box couldn't contain her entirely. He covered it with two pieces of clothing and then tied the box to the back of his motorcycle. He rode off and disposed of A Zhen's body in a nearby pond.
What surprised the police was that while transporting A Zhen's body, Lao Mou didn't forget to bring along two apples, intending to pray for himself and A Zhen. Ultimately, the truth of the case came to light, and Lao Mou would face legal consequences for his actions.
It is important to note that this narrative includes references to drug use and sexual relations as part of depicting the reality of the events; however, these actions violate legal and moral standards.
