He was very clear that he had no interest in women, yet she said it was love at first sight? What a simple lie. Did he really look that foolish?
Song Feiwan knew he didn't believe her, and her heart raced with anxiety. What else could she do? A single lie required countless others to support it; she dared not concoct any outrageous stories!
Meeting his cold gaze, Song Feiwan said sadly, "It's a pity that Your Highness has forgotten."
Xiao Yu replied, "Do you know what happens to those who deceive me, Princess?"
Naturally, they would be skinned alive and their bones crushed to dust.
"You will find out soon enough," he added ominously.
Hearing the warning in his words, Song Feiwan felt a chill run down her spine, yet she forced a smile. "Your Highness is wise and mighty; who would dare deceive you? It’s getting late, and you must be tired. I shall not disturb you any longer."
With that, she stood and bowed before hastily making her escape. The formidable villain truly was terrifying! She wanted to leave the palace!
However, leaving the palace was impossible. When the Emperor came for dinner, they discussed an important matter.
"I have ordered preparations for a grand banquet to announce to the world that my son has returned!"
Concubine Rong displayed a joyful expression. "Thank you for your grace, Your Majesty; I am overwhelmed by your favor."
Xiao Yu replied, "I am unfilial and have caused my father much worry."
Their mutual flattery pleased the Emperor greatly.
Song Feiwan quietly asked from the side, "Should I return to my residence and wait?"
The Emperor raised his hand. "No need; the banquet will be held within ten days at the latest. You and Yu'er will stay in the palace."
Ten more days of suffering.
Concubine Rong pondered for a moment before smiling. "Your father is right; you two haven’t seen each other in a while. This is a good opportunity to spend more time together."
"Your Highness, I am here," Xiao Yu replied.
The evening air was refreshing. "Why don't you take Fei Wan for a stroll in the Imperial Garden?"
"I obey your command."
The couple, seemingly harmonious yet distant, stood up together and bowed before taking their leave.
Song Fei Wan followed the tall and graceful Xiao Yu, unable to suppress her sighs.
As they entered the Imperial Garden, Xiao Yu suddenly stopped. Song Fei Wan was caught off guard and nearly bumped into him.
"Be careful not to dirty your clean robe with my clumsiness," she forced a smile as she spoke.
Xiao Yu turned his head, looking down at her with raised eyebrows. "Do you not wish to go?"
Song Fei Wan appeared surprised. "How could that be? I would be delighted to enjoy the garden with Your Highness! Let us hurry along!"
Saying this, she linked her arm with Xiao Yu's, smiling sweetly.
The maidservant leading them couldn't help but smile as well, feeling that the bond between the prince and princess was genuine.
But then she noticed something strange—was there something black and long on the princess's sleeve?
Song Fei Wan wore a moon-colored gown with large sleeves, cinched at the waist, its layers flowing gracefully as she moved, exuding an ethereal charm.
Feeling Xiao Yu's impatience as she clung to him, she thought to herself, Hurry up and push me away; we can say we've finished our stroll here!
Suddenly, a frightened voice from a maidservant interrupted her thoughts. "Your Highness!"
"Hmm?"
Just as Song Fei Wan was about to look up, Xiao Yu said sternly, "Don't move."
In her peripheral vision, she saw him grip her upper arm tightly as he commanded the maidservant, "You come here."
Confused, Song Fei Wan asked, "Come for what?"
The maidservant approached cautiously, suppressing her fear as she muttered an apology while reaching into Song Fei Wan's sleeve.
Xiao Yu's expression remained indifferent. "You must not look."
Before she could react, Song Fei Wan saw the maidservant pull something out from her sleeve.
In an instant, fear surged to the top of her head. She let out a scream and clung tightly to Xiao Yu!
