Several gazes clashed in the air, tension rising as if ready to ignite at any moment. But before Li could give her command, a loud voice pierced through the atmosphere.
"The imperial edict has arrived! Everyone, come quickly to hear it!"
Li was taken aback and saw the same confusion reflected in Song Shuyou's eyes. Song Taipeng's expression tightened further; not only did he hurriedly adjust his appearance, but he also instructed Li and her daughter, "Hurry! Get yourselves presentable!"
As he spoke, he hurriedly made his way toward the front courtyard. Li and the others followed closely behind him, astonished as they asked, "Sir, why would there be an imperial edict from the palace?"
Song Taipeng's face darkened. "How would I know?"
In just a short distance, he had reflected on his actions several times and confirmed that he hadn't made any major mistakes. Surely it couldn't be directed at him?
