As soon as she took two steps forward, someone stopped her.
Ruan Fuxi looked at the woman in front of her, momentarily surprised. The other party was at the Foundation Establishment stage. She quickly regained her composure and guessed the identity of the newcomer, but she didn’t speak immediately.
Sensing the hidden malice emanating from the woman, Ruan Fuxi raised an eyebrow and glanced over calmly.
Bai Tong felt a twinge of annoyance. As a member of the Baishan Sect, she was usually well-received wherever she went. Yet here was Ruan Fuxi, with no sect or backing, treating her with such indifference. She felt slighted by Ruan Fuxi’s cold demeanor.
Her dislike for Ruan Fuxi deepened in that moment. However, Bai Tong suppressed her dissatisfaction and feigned friendliness as she addressed Ruan Fuxi.
“You must be Ruan Fuxi. I’m Bai Tong from the Baishan Sect.”
Ruan Fuxi nodded, her tone neither warm nor cold. “Do you need something from me?”
Bai Tong felt an inexplicable surge of anger at Ruan Fuxi’s attitude. Although she tried to maintain a smile on her face, it faltered as she remembered that she had come to discuss something important. Still, she didn’t leave immediately; instead, her expression grew somewhat colder.
“Ruan Fuxi, I wanted to ask about the ghost-restraining talisman you sold to Zhou Yiyou. Where did it come from?”
Feigning surprise, Ruan Fuxi replied, “I drew it myself.”
Bai Tong instinctively found it hard to believe. Although Zhou Yi had claimed it was drawn by Ruan Fuxi, she knew just how difficult it was to create such a talisman. How could Ruan Fuxi possibly have done it?
She scrutinized Ruan Fuxi closely but found nothing unusual. No matter how she looked at it, Ruan Fuxi appeared to be just an ordinary person with a bit of knowledge about metaphysics. There was no way she could draw a ghost-restraining talisman that even Bai Tong herself struggled with.
If only Ruan Fuxi knew what Bai Tong was thinking, she would probably have been unable to suppress her laughter.
Her cultivation level was significantly higher than Bai Tong's; if the latter could discern anything, it would indeed be strange.
Bai Tong furrowed her brows and continued, "Then, can you tell me where you learned this talisman, Miss Ruan?"
Ruan Fuxi raised an eyebrow and replied nonchalantly, "Bai friend, that’s none of your business."
The implication was clear: she was meddling too much.
Upon hearing this, Bai Tong's expression darkened as she coldly said, "Miss Ruan, I’m trying to have a proper conversation with you. Why do you always have to mock me?"
Ruan Fuxi crossed her arms. "Which part of what I said mocked you? I only spoke the truth."
Not wanting to waste any more time with her and eager to get to her appointment, Ruan Fuxi added, "If you want to buy a talisman, it’s a hundred thousand for one. If not, you can leave; I have other matters to attend to today."
Bai Tong had never been treated this way before. "Wait a moment! I noticed that the talismans you drew look similar to those in the ancient texts passed down in my sect. I suspect—"
Before she could finish her sentence, she was interrupted.
Sheng Yanzhou strode over with long legs, and upon seeing Ruan Fuxi, a smile appeared in his eyes. "Xixi."
He approached Ruan Fuxi and frowned at Bai Tong.
Though Bai Tong was displeased at being interrupted, her eyes lit up when she looked at Sheng Yanzhou. He was at the Foundation Establishment stage!
