After his daughter passed away, her husband continued to care for him with the same attentiveness as before, and he had not remarried for several years. The boss found it hard to believe that the seemingly honest and devoted son-in-law was actually the one who had harmed his granddaughter.
With a stern expression, he refused to let the man take the child. A flash of malice crossed the middle-aged man's face, but it quickly transformed into a feigned look of confusion.
“Dad, what’s going on? Xiao Xuan hasn’t been in good spirits lately. You’re taking care of her alone while also managing the shop. That’s too much for you. Why don’t I come over to help out a bit?”
Upon hearing this, the boss was no fool. He recalled how his son-in-law had previously suggested helping him manage the store, and everything suddenly made sense. He was eyeing his shop.
The boss did not hesitate and confronted him directly. “Is Xiao Xuan’s recent odd behavior due to your meddling?”
The middle-aged man was taken aback, unable to comprehend how he had guessed that. Still, he tried to defend himself, saying, “Dad, what are you talking about? Xiao Xuan is my niece; how could I harm her?”
But the boss was unconvinced. He knew that the man would not easily admit to anything. After a moment of thought, he decided not to pursue that topic further and instead said, “From now on, this shop will be left for Xiao Xuan to inherit. When she’s older, everything I have will go to her.”
The implication was clear: no one else would have a share.
This time, the middle-aged man lost his composure. “Dad, Xiao Xuan is still so young! Who knows if she’ll even grow up?”
He realized that this old man only cared about his granddaughter and that he would receive nothing from him. If it weren’t for this niece, he would be the only family member left in this world. At that point, all the years of savings in the shop would belong to him.
The boss’s expression remained cold.
Xiao Xuan is my granddaughter. Even though she is young, I will leave all my assets to her.
The middle-aged man, for some reason, was suddenly overwhelmed by anger and jealousy, his eyes turning red as he lost his sanity.
"You old fool! I pretend to be your grandson every day, and you don't leave a single penny for me. You're just lucky to be alive; if you had died earlier, all your money would have been mine when you passed!"
With that, he lunged forward, intending to grab the old man.
Ruan Fuxi, a good Samaritan, saw this and kicked the middle-aged man, sending him sprawling to the ground.
"Call the police," she said to her boss before taking Ruan Anmu and walking out.
The matter ended there; the man would eventually face retribution for his misdeeds.
Once outside, Ruan Anmu looked at her with wide eyes filled with admiration.
"Xiao Xi, you know so much!"
Ruan Fuxi smiled lightly. "It's just a hobby; I understand a bit about these things. Do you want to learn?"
Ruan Anmu shook her head. "I don't have that talent."
Then she seemed to remember something and added, "You and Dad really are alike; he used to be a bit eccentric too. He would read fortunes and interpret characters. It seems you have this talent for a reason."
Ruan Fuxi was curious. "How did you figure out that Dad could do those things?"
