I let out a sigh, "Then I'm leaving."
Xue Ming instinctively grabbed my arm, "Don't go."
I shook off his hand, "Don't touch me."
Lin Shuqin timidly tugged at Xue Ming's sleeve, "A Ming, please don't blame Shan Shan. It's my fault..."
I couldn't help but roll my eyes; the tea scent was almost wafting across the Pacific.
I stared at Lin Shuqin and said seriously, "Lin Shuqin, go check again and see if there's any surveillance footage you overlooked."
Lin Shuqin's expression froze instantly.
I lost interest immediately.
It seemed that Lin Shuqin hadn't been reborn after all. She didn't realize that the surveillance cameras in the opposite teaching building could capture this area. Only a reborn Lin Shuqin wouldn't think of that.
I couldn't be bothered to deal with her anymore and turned to leave.
Xue Ming wanted to follow me but was stopped by Lin Shuqin, "A Ming, can you stay and keep me company..."
Xue Ming hesitated for a moment, raising his foot as if to follow me.
I raised an eyebrow, "You should stay with her."
Xue Ming looked a bit anxious, "I'll go back with you."
I waved my hand dismissively, "No need."
With that, I left the hospital room directly.
After returning to school, Ma Yuan suddenly called out to me.
She ran over, breathless, "Shan Shan, about being wronged by Lin Shuqin..."
She handed me a CD, "I heard about what happened from some classmates and went over to the opposite teaching building to look around. Sure enough, there’s surveillance footage of you."
I took the CD in surprise, "You ran over so fast just to give me this?"
Ma Yuan scratched her head awkwardly, "I was worried Lin Shuqin might find a chance to delete the footage, so I copied it for you first."
A warm current surged in my heart as I smiled and patted Ma Yuan's head. "Thank you."
Ma Yuan blushed, a bit shy. "No need to thank me..."
That evening, Lin Shuqin indeed sneaked back to school and slipped into the teaching building. Xue Ming and I waited for her at the classroom door.
When she saw us, she clearly froze for a moment. "A Ming... what are you doing here?"
Xue Ming frowned slightly. "Why are you back?"
Lin Shuqin stammered, unable to say anything.
I couldn't help but speak up. "You wanted to delete the surveillance footage, right?"
Lin Shuqin suddenly looked up, shock written all over her face.
I continued, "You deliberately fell down the stairs to frame me for pushing you, just to get Xue Ming's attention, didn't you?"
Lin Shuqin's face grew paler, her lips trembling as she struggled to respond.
I looked at her seriously and asked, "Lin Shuqin, you like Xue Ming so much that you're willing to hurt yourself. Does he love you?"
With red-rimmed eyes, Lin Shuqin gazed at Xue Ming.
Xue Ming frowned and turned his gaze away.
Lin Shuqin lowered her head, tears falling to the ground.
I chuckled softly. "He feels guilty towards you, but there's no love."
After a long silence, Lin Shuqin finally admitted, "I fell by myself..."
The next day, in front of the whole class, Lin Shuqin apologized to me.
Ma Yuan and I decided to stay at school. Ma Yuan's aunt was leaving town for work, and Ma Yuan didn't want to live alone in the welfare home, so she chose to stay at school too.
When Xue Ming heard I was going to stay at school, he frowned again. "Staying at school?"
I nodded. "Yeah. It's so convenient! After class, I can go back to the dorm and rest, plus I can spend more time studying."
Xue Ming pressed his lips together. "Then why do you still go home every day?"
I said expressionlessly, "I like it, is that a problem?"
Xue Ming looked at me deeply, hesitating to say something.
After I packed my things, Xue Ming suddenly called out to me, "Shan Shan."
I turned to look at him and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Xue Ming's Adam's apple bobbed slightly, his voice a bit hoarse, "Do you... want to keep your distance from me?"
I blinked and remained silent.
