When Yi Zhonghai heard the police's questions, the first thing that came to his mind was Bang Geng. However, he quickly shook his head, thinking it was impossible. He believed that Bang Geng wouldn't have the audacity to do something like this!
"Officer, I, Yi Zhonghai, have always been kind to others. How could I have offended anyone? I suspect these people think I'm a level eight mechanic and that my family is wealthy, which is why they kidnapped me. Please, officer, you must catch these criminals and rid us of this menace!"
Seeing that they couldn't extract any more information, the police decided to leave.
No matter the time or place, one should never underestimate the capabilities of the police. Although they couldn't gather much from Yi Zhonghai, during their investigation, they discovered that Jia Geng, who lived in the courtyard, was a recently released juvenile delinquent!
The police's attention immediately shifted to Bang Geng. On the day Yi Zhonghai was kidnapped, Jia Geng had taken a train to the countryside!
It was known that upon learning he would be sent to the countryside, Jia Geng had caused quite a scene for a long time. Now that he was so eager to go, it raised suspicions!
With a suspect in mind, the police continued their investigation. They soon uncovered much of what Bang Geng had been up to since his release. Even Tao Ge and his group came under the police's scrutiny!
According to Yi Zhonghai, each of those men had hit themselves with a stick—oh, and one had kicked himself in a rather sensitive area! This matched perfectly with the number of people in Bang Geng's and Tao Ge's group!
They also learned that Tao Ge and his crew had gone to the countryside on the same day. Before leaving, they had bought quite a few things, making them even more suspicious!
Following this lead further, the police tracked down Tao Ge's movements and discovered that both Tao Ge's group and Bang Geng had been present at the location where Yi Zhonghai was kidnapped. Additionally, members of Tao Ge's gang had also appeared at the abandoned courtyard where Yi Dama had paid money!
With such clear evidence in hand, what more was there to discuss? The police immediately contacted the location where Tao Ge's group was headed to apprehend them! They were escorted by local officers.
At that time, trains were quite slow, and since the destination for both Tao Ge and Bang Geng was far away, as soon as they disembarked from the train without even taking a moment to observe their surroundings, they were apprehended by local police!
Well then, they wouldn't be going to the countryside after all; instead, they would take the train back along the same route—with two additional police officers accompanying them.
After spending several days recuperating in the courtyard, Yi Zhonghai received word from the steel mill about his injury. They sent someone to check on him at the hospital and upon learning about his condition, they arranged for his early retirement!
When Bang Geng and his group were brought in for questioning, given today's police methods, these street thugs couldn't withstand it for long. They soon confessed everything!
The police returned to the courtyard where Yi Zhonghai and Liu Haizhong were basking in the sun. These two unfortunate brothers could hardly compare whose situation was worse!
"Officer, have you caught my kidnappers?" Yi Zhonghai asked hopefully upon seeing them arrive.
"Yi Zhonghai," said the officer, "thanks to our efforts, we have apprehended those who kidnapped you and caused you harm. Unfortunately, we only managed to recover seven thousand three hundred yuan of your ransom."
Speaking of this money, it had all been seized from Tao Ge and Bang Geng during their arrest! They were uneasy about handing over the money to their families and thought it best to take it with them to the countryside. As a result, it made things easier for the officers; whatever was missing had likely been spent already!
"Well," said Yi Zhonghai with a sigh of relief, "as long as those people are caught! A few less yuan is nothing! Thank you! I hope you will severely punish those criminals!"
