Seeing that Director Zheng was taking this matter seriously, Yi Zhonghai tactfully took his leave.
Wang Jiefang withdrew his mental energy at this point. He found nothing strange about Yi Zhonghai's actions; in his eyes, Yi Zhonghai was just that kind of petty person! He chuckled to himself, wondering if Bang Geng would beat up Yi Zhonghai again if he knew it was Yi Zhonghai who sent him to the countryside!
With a newfound determination, Director Zheng began taking action. He compiled a list of all the delinquents in his area and then dispatched notifications for them to go to the countryside!
The government had long been advocating for educated youth to go to the countryside, and various neighborhood offices even had quotas. Now, not only had Director Zheng fulfilled his quota, but he also rid his jurisdiction of unstable elements. He was quite pleased with himself!
Thus, he personally delivered Bang Geng's notification.
"What? Send Bang Geng to the countryside? My goodness, he just returned not long ago! Now he has to leave again? Director, can't you reconsider?" Jia Zhangshi cried out upon hearing the news.
"Jia Zhangshi, what do you think the neighborhood office's decision is? A child's play? The notification has been issued; Bang Geng must go to the countryside, or he will be arrested and imprisoned!"
Qin Huairu asked Director Zheng with red-rimmed eyes, "Director, isn't going to the countryside supposed to be voluntary? Why does my Bang Geng have to go even though he didn't sign up?"
"That was the rule before," Director Zheng replied impatiently. "Now there are new regulations. Individuals like Bang Geng who are considered social drifters must go to the countryside even if they don't sign up!"
Qin Huairu's mind raced upon hearing "social drifters." "Director Zheng, what if we find Bang Geng a job right now? Wouldn't that mean he doesn't have to go?"
Director Zheng looked at Qin Huairu with annoyance. "If you had found him a job before the notification came down, he could have avoided going. But now that the notification is out, Bang Geng must go!"
"Alright, I've delivered the message. Make sure you gather at the neighborhood office when the time comes! Otherwise, you'll face the consequences!" With that, Director Zheng left.
Bang Geng was having a great time and certainly did not want to go to the countryside—especially not to Shaanxi Province, which he heard was poor and lacked both water and food!
Qin Huairu even sought out Yi Zhonghai in hopes that he could think of a way to keep Bang Geng from leaving! Little did she know that it was all instigated by Yi Zhonghai; there was no way he would sabotage his own plan.
In the following days, life in the Jia household fell into a heavy silence. Bang Geng looked gloomy whenever he saw people around him; no one wanted to provoke anyone from the Jia family during this time.
