I went to Yunnan with Tian Li.
We climbed Yulong Snow Mountain, but halfway up, I couldn't go any further. However, the views were breathtaking. After that, we had mushroom hotpot, which was so spicy that I ended up throwing it all up. We rode elephants and visited Erhai Lake, which was stunningly beautiful. In a moment of excitement, we cried and shouted that we wanted to jump into the lake and end it all. But when we actually reached the lakeside, we felt a bit reluctant.
At that moment, a woman with a Northeast accent approached us. She spoke to us in her dialect, trying to reason with us and persuade us not to do anything foolish.
"Girls, if you die, think about how sad your parents would be. If you don't care about yourself, at least think about your family!"
"Little sister, living is wonderful! There’s candy to eat, cola to drink; you can laugh when you want and cry when you want—it's great!"
"Come here, have some candy! Once you eat my candy, you'll be happy and won't want to die anymore."
She handed each of us a piece of candy and smiled at us. Both Tian Li and I were convinced by her words and decided to live our lives fully.
"Okay, we won't die."
"Auntie, we were wrong; we won’t have such thoughts again."
"Yes, yes! We will definitely live well."
After eating her candy, it really did taste sweet. That sweetness made it hard for us to go through with our earlier thoughts. We decided to be obedient and take it one day at a time. After all, we couldn't die just yet.

At Zhou Jie's wedding, the banquet hall doors opened.
But there was no sign of the bride. Zhou Jie was still in his suit, wearing an unusual gentleness on his face. However, seeing the empty doorway made his smile freeze in place. Panic and fear replaced it as he shouted above the crowd, asking where she had gone.
"Get her back for me! Now! Immediately!"
Later, he almost mobilized all his brothers.
But he gained nothing.
Someone said, "Is it because Zhang Jiahui's video was seen by me?"
Zhou Jie, with red eyes, grabbed his phone and asked, "What video?"
"The one Zhang Jiahui posted, the bungee jumping one, it's trending number one!"
"Weren't they all blurred out?"
The person handed the phone to Zhou Jie, and when he looked down, it was not blurred at all.
Zhou Jie’s face instantly turned pale, and he smashed the phone into pieces.
Everyone below fell silent, no one dared to speak.
Zhou Jie stood on stage, red-eyed, repeatedly dialing my number.
He couldn't get through and angrily threw his phone away.
Wang Ping sent me a WeChat message asking where I was.
"Yiru, you damn well better not have a terminal illness!"
Wang Ping was a formidable woman; she really guessed it right.
I didn’t reply.
She sent me a video next.
In the video, a man was flipping tables like a madman, red wine splattered everywhere.
Wang Ping added a caption: "Liu Yiru, your judgment of people is really off."
In the video, Zhou Jie saw Wang Ping and grabbed her shoulder, asking where I was.
Wang Ping slapped his hand away and said, "How would I know?"
"Aren't you the most powerful person in Haishi? How come you don't even know where Deadly Rival is?"
Zhou Jie seemed to lose all strength and collapsed to the ground.
He murmured to himself, "Yiru, Yiru..."
I rented a room by Erhai Lake with Tian Li.
We also hired a local housekeeper to clean and cook for us.
The housekeeper was very kind and efficient in her work.
Seeing Tian Li and me looking so thin and frail made her feel sorry for us.
So every day she tried different recipes to encourage us to eat more.
Today she made Dongpo Pork, and tomorrow she would learn to make Snowy Mung Bean Paste.
I had lost my appetite, just like Tian Li. But I couldn't bear to disappoint Auntie’s kindness. Each time, I forced myself to eat a little, then secretly went to the bathroom to throw it all up.
In front of the mirror, I looked at Tian Li, and she looked back at me. "I think I've developed a certain skeletal beauty," I said. Tian Li had become frighteningly thin as well; we resembled two skeletons.
"Indeed, anyone who sees us would exclaim, 'Wow, you both look so slim!'"
"Hahahaha..."
"Hehehahaha..."
We laughed until our bodies ached, finally stopping when the pain became too much.
"Liu Yiru, if I die, just scatter my ashes," I joked.
"Sure, I'll crush your bones and scatter them so you won't have a resting place," she replied playfully.
We bantered back and forth, seemingly lighthearted, but deep down, there was a twinge of sadness.
I opened a short video app, intending to browse casually, but unexpectedly came across a video of Zhou Jie. He used to avoid showing his face on camera. Perhaps due to age, he now appeared unfazed in front of the lens. A stubble had begun to grow on his chin, and his eyes were bloodshot. He looked somewhat haggard.
