In order to resemble Bai Ling a bit, Lin Yuan specifically got a haircut at the barbershop. Recently, he also received his wages from the food delivery job, so he bought a few pieces of clothing, making him look somewhat cleaner.
Lin Yuan was not bad-looking. Being an orphan, most of his energy was spent on making money, yet his dressing style still followed Bai Ling's lead.
"Wow, Consultant Lin looks quite spirited with this outfit," a passing police officer casually remarked.
Lin Yuan glanced over. "I’m just trying to dress like Consultant Bai. Does it really look good?"
Uh...
Thinking about what Bai Ling usually looked like, the officer suddenly found himself at a loss for words. He couldn't very well add, "It might be a matter of personal taste," could he?
"What mission are you preparing for? Why the sudden change in attire?"
"Oh, I'm just assisting everyone with the case investigation."
After chatting for a bit, Lin Yuan headed over to Bai Ling's office. There was a dedicated office for him in the district, which was likely going to be vacant soon. However, he heard that Jiang Jinchuan was quite interested in that space.
Lin Yuan didn’t concern himself with that; he arranged for his office in the district to be in the same location as Bai Ling’s. In other words, they would share an office.
"I’ve followed up on those three people from the ship that I thought were worth investigating. One of them is the son of that wealthy tycoon?"
Bai Ling looked up at him. "You’re asking me about this?"
"Team Zheng said I could ask you any questions related to the case."
That was true, but their relationship wasn’t very good. If it weren’t for his mother being clever enough, perhaps she wouldn’t even have qualified to board the ship.
Lin Yuan nodded. "Do you think he could be involved in drug trafficking?"
"Highly unlikely. No one would entrust such an important task to a playboy; it’s too risky."
"I also checked on another person and found no issues; he’s already gone to Jiang City."
"The only one left in Hai City is this woman."
Lin Yuan pulled out a printed photo and placed it on the table. "Do you think she’s the most suspicious?"
"When they passed through customs, one of their boxes was left behind. I should have taken a look at it then."
"If that box was made of special materials, it would be difficult to open without professional help, and that takes time."
"It seems she has an appointment today."
"Do you want to check it out?" Bai Ling asked.
"If possible, I would indeed like to see."
"Here you go, this is my car key."
Since the postage would be reimbursed by the police station, Bai Ling didn’t mind at all.
The woman had arranged for afternoon tea.
Outside a high-end café, a domestic car was parked with its windows closed, but the people inside could just see the elegant woman sitting in the café through the glass.
A bodyguard stood beside her, different from the one Lin Yuan had encountered before.
About a minute later, another person appeared.
Lin Yuan perked up and opened his phone to record, but to his surprise, it was another woman who came this time, dressed in a bright and bold manner.
Though she wore a light-colored long dress, it had a deep neckline that subtly revealed some allure.
She held a pair of sunglasses in her hand and carried an expensive-looking bag.
Behind her were two men with tanned skin, who also looked like bodyguards.
"Sorry to keep you waiting."
After sitting down, she glanced at the waiting girl and smiled slightly with her red lips.
She extended her hand.
"My name is Butterfly."
"I can do everything that Qing She can do; if there are any issues, just discuss them with me."
A mocking laugh made her retract her hand.
"You should know who I really want to meet. If the person isn’t from Qing She, I don’t think there’s anything for us to talk about."
"I bring sincerity; what about you?"
As if she had anticipated this question, Butterfly clapped her hands.
One of the men behind her brought over a briefcase.
Due to the angle, Lin Yuan couldn’t see what it was, but he clearly noticed the surprise on the woman’s face.
She truly hadn’t expected to see this.
"I thought I had already... already left it behind, right?"
Butterfly raised a carefree smile.
"Did you think you were dealing with some lowly organization? What we’re doing is far beyond that."
"It seems I've encountered a reliable partner, Shangguan Yao."
She was also from Huaguo but had changed nationality following her father.
Later on, she took over her father's company and business.
"Now we should have a good talk about cooperation?"
As both women exchanged smiles, Butterfly's expression suddenly became more serious as she spoke a few words to Shangguan Yao before they walked toward the private room together.
Lin Yuan put away his phone.
To his surprise, it was that alluring and exaggerated woman who was even more perceptive than those two bodyguards.
It seemed he could preliminarily confirm that it was indeed those two women.
As Lin Yuan was preparing to leave, he heard the unmistakable roar of a motorcycle and glanced in the rearview mirror. A motorcycle was speeding towards him, clearly targeting his rear.
Who could it be?
He murmured this to himself but still started the vehicle and drove away. In fact, there was more than one motorcycle following him; the one in front was just the fastest. They were closely tailing Lin Yuan's car, showing no signs of backing off.
Such a display was clearly not something to be taken lightly. Lin Yuan couldn't recall having such brazen enemies.
Before long, one of the motorcycles caught up with him. From inside his car, Lin Yuan could clearly read the lips of the rider, who was saying, "Bai Ling, pull over! You won't get away with this!"
So they were looking for Bai Ling?
Lin Yuan quickly scanned their bodies and noticed they didn’t seem to have any firearms or weapons.
A minute later, Lin Yuan’s car came to a stop. He had no choice; they were forcing him to halt.
As soon as the car stopped, someone jumped off the motorcycle and knocked heavily on his window.
"Bai Ling, I've finally caught you!"
The rider removed their helmet, revealing a head of golden hair that looked somewhat outlandish and streaked with various colors.
Lin Yuan rolled down his window and opened the door. A few others also dismounted from their motorcycles. Perhaps none of them had seen Bai Ling before; they stared at Lin Yuan, failing to recognize that he wasn’t her.
"You’ve been eyeing that license plate for almost three months now. The police department really knows how to keep you locked up!"
The speaker rubbed his fist, which was as big as a sandbag, letting out a laugh that echoed ominously.
"How dare you send my brother to prison? Let’s see if you can walk away from this today!"
"Brothers, let’s go! We’re avenging our brother!"
