Yu Miaoyin had always been extravagant, but now that she had left Qi Xiao, the one who had selflessly supported her financially, her life had become even more difficult. Out of desperation, she could only rely on her identity as a weapon refiner to take on some jobs at the Refining Hall.
However, for some reason, many disciples of the Refining Hall changed their attitudes upon hearing that she was the third disciple of the Qingjing Peak. Especially that disciple of Ji Yang, who rushed over to ask her why they had expelled Qi Xiao from Qingjing Peak. Upon hearing about the Blood Linglong incident, that disciple sneered repeatedly.
"This Blood Linglong has nothing to do with your Junior Brother Ye. Why are you taking your anger out on Senior Brother Qi?" In the past, she had thought that Master Hanying was a figure of great integrity, but it turned out he was just a biased and unreasonable villain!
Hearing someone insult her master, Yu Miaoyin could not hold back and instinctively made a move. But as soon as she did, Elder Mo from the Refining Hall rushed in to stop her. Several disciples of the Refining Hall took defensive stances, watching her warily. It seemed that as soon as she made a move, they would not hesitate to use their magical tools against her.
Yu Miaoyin had never encountered such unreasonable behavior in her life. She saw Elder Mo coldly reprimanding Ji Yang and thought he might be reasonable, so she bowed to him, hoping he would uphold justice.
But Elder Mo merely sighed and said, "He has already insulted Master Hanying of Qingjing Peak. I have scolded him; what more do you want?"
"He insulted my master; how can we let this go so easily? At the very least, he should receive a few strokes of the Soul-Dispersing Whip and spend a few months in the Cold Cave!"
Elder Mo looked at her with a complex expression and replied, "Our Refining Hall is not like your Qingjing Peak with such harsh punishments."
With that, he sent her out, and the heavy doors of the Refining Hall slammed shut behind her. She heard Elder Mo's final words: "I will punish him to copy the hall rules for a month. If you are truly dissatisfied, go tell the Sect Leader."
Even after leaving the Refining Hall, Yu Miaoyin's mind was still in a daze. A place with harsh punishments? When did Qingjing Peak become such a place? Did they all think that Master was too harsh on Qi Xiao? But Qi Xiao had defied his master and refused to care for his junior brother; he deserved to be taught a lesson!
Yu Miaoyin ran forward desperately, as if doing so could silence the clamor in her heart. A terrifying thought flickered in her mind—one she dared not voice or dwell upon. How could her master be wrong? How could Qingjing Peak be at fault?
It must be that they have been too lenient with their disciples, resulting in such unruly students! What great achievements can such disciples hope to attain?
Yu Miaoyin was determined that during the upcoming sect competition, she would regain her dignity through the disciples of the Refining Hall and prove that Elder Mo was wrong! However, having offended the Refining Hall, it was not easy for her to make amends.
Yu Miaoyin could only take on some odd jobs outside, but those wealthy young masters looked down on her and were generally skeptical. Her already meager purse became even emptier.
"Senior Sister, what are you doing here?"
Upon seeing Junior Brother Ye, Yu Miaoyin immediately put on a bright smile. "I’m just wandering around. Junior Brother, why did you come down the mountain? You must not come here often; let me show you around."
"That’s perfect. I actually have a favor to ask of you." He lowered his head for a moment, a hint of embarrassment crossing his face. "A friend of mine has a birthday coming up, and I was wondering if you could help me pick out a gift. As a refining master, your eye for quality must be better than mine."
"Sure! Where should we go first?"
"Is there anywhere better than the Linlang Pavilion? Let’s go there directly."
A hint of awkwardness flashed across Yu Miaoyin's face. Seeing her frozen in place, Ye Xiuyuan turned back and asked, "Senior Sister, what’s wrong?"
"Um, Junior Brother, actually besides Linlang Pavilion, there are good things in other places too. Why don’t I take you to look around first?"
"Is there really anywhere in this city that can compare to Linlang Pavilion?"
Yu Miaoyin's expression stiffened; she couldn’t even maintain her smile anymore. She certainly couldn’t tell Junior Brother that she had just been kicked out of Linlang Pavilion! What would that mean for her reputation as his senior sister?
Ye Xiuyuan took her hand, preparing to leave, but Yu Miaoyin hurriedly pulled her hand away as if she had touched a spark, awkwardly laughing. "Oh! I just remembered; I haven’t completed the task assigned by our Master yet. You go ahead and browse slowly while I take care of that."
Ye Xiuyuan frowned slightly, feeling annoyed. He had originally planned to help Yu Miaoyin pick out a gift! Now that she was leaving him behind, what was he supposed to do alone?
However, now that he was here, Ye Xiuyuan didn’t want to just leave like this.
He arrived at the Linglang Pavilion and selected some rare refining materials, intending to store them under Yu Miaoyin's account. However, the attendant informed him that Yu Miaoyin had long since canceled her name.
"She has hardly any money in her bag, yet she still wanders around Linglang Pavilion all day. Does she think this is a market?"
Ye Xiuyuan couldn't help but feel a surge of anger. He directly returned the goods and left in a huff.
Upon hearing the news, Supervisor Yu rushed over and immediately punished the loquacious attendant with a slap. "A guest is a guest; what right do you have to speak about their affairs?"
The attendant felt wronged. "But it's true! Supervisor, you’ve been annoyed by her too!"
"Still daring to talk back? Get out of here!"
The attendant left with a disgruntled expression, repeatedly covering his backside as he retreated.
Yu Miaoyin wandered through the city, feeling lost. She couldn't understand why Qi Xiao's departure from Qingjing Peak, which should have been a good thing, seemed to make everything worse. She pulled out her empty pockets, feeling both angry and aggrieved. If only Qi Xiao were still here, perhaps she wouldn’t be so poor.
In the Scripture Pavilion, Qi Xiao ascended the stairs slowly and approached the desk to pay his respects. "I have returned to the Xiaoyao Sect for a few days but haven't had the chance to greet Elder Qi yet. I hope you can forgive me."
Elder Qi waved his hand dismissively. "I'm just an old man who reads books in his spare time; whether you see me or not isn't important. I won't bother with such formalities—please, sit down."
Qi Xiao took a seat and accepted the tea from Elder Qi. The elder glanced at him and asked, "What brings you to the Scripture Pavilion? Don't give me any grand reasons."
Qi Xiao scratched his head awkwardly, feeling embarrassed. "Elder Qi is wise; I was punished by the Sect Leader and ordered to copy texts here for a month."
Elder Qi burst into laughter, nearly spitting out his tea. "Hahaha! Tell me what kind of trouble you got into!"
Qi Xiao had no choice but to recount everything that happened in Leifeng Valley. At first, Elder Qi listened with amusement, but as the story progressed, his expression grew serious.
"You really didn’t see it wrong? That dragon-like creature showed signs of transformation? And it could defeat Elder Chang with just half a step into the Nascent Soul stage?"
"The inner sect disciples all witnessed it firsthand; if Elder doesn’t believe me, you can ask them."
