Wang Lei watched as the assassin rode away on his motorcycle, disappearing into the night. Anger surged within him, almost overwhelming him. His face turned ashen, and he gripped the shotgun tightly, knuckles white and veins bulging on the back of his hand. The weight of this failure was unbearable; hatred and fury mixed inside him like boiling lava. A glint of malice flashed in his eyes as he ground his teeth, unable to contain his rage. Suddenly, he threw his head back and let out a furious roar, raising the shotgun high. 0

"Bang! Bang!" The deafening gunshots shattered the night sky, pellets from the shotgun scattering like a dense rain of metal, piercing through the air with a sharp crack. The terrified underlings instinctively shrank back, hunching their shoulders and avoiding his gaze. Their eyes were filled with fear and reverence, knowing that their boss's fury had reached its peak, and any misstep could turn them into his outlet for rage. The few subordinates standing beside him turned pale, their legs trembling slightly, hearts racing in dread that the next moment the shotgun might be aimed at them. 0

"You useless bastards!" Wang Lei roared, his voice thick with anger, almost tangible. His eyes were bloodshot with rage, resembling a beast pushed to its limits. He glared at the empty shotgun in his hands, contempt and fury flashing in his gaze before he let out another growl and slammed the weapon into the face of one of his subordinates. 0

"You worthless scum! What are you good for?" The heavy metal stock of the shotgun crashed against the subordinate's face with a dull thud. Blood splattered as the young man's cheek split open, teeth flying out along with blood, splattering onto the faces and clothes of those nearby. The struck subordinate let out a pained gasp before collapsing to the ground, hands clutching his face as blood oozed through his fingers. His expression twisted in agony, but he dared not make a sound. 0

Wang Lei's fury showed no signs of abating as he lunged at the fallen subordinate and kicked him hard. The young man's body rolled backward before curling up on the ground, trembling all over as if pain had robbed him of his voice. Yet he still did not dare to resist. Seeing this, Wang Lei's flames of anger blazed even brighter; rage nearly eclipsed reason as he continued to kick the fallen man mercilessly, cursing under his breath: "You can't even catch a damn fool! What good are you to me? A bunch of useless trash who just eat without working!" 0

The surrounding subordinates felt like they were sitting on pins and needles, frozen in place for fear that any movement would draw their boss's wrath upon themselves. Each one kept their heads down, unable to look directly at the scene unfolding before them, hearts filled with dread and palms slick with cold sweat. Someone swallowed nervously; fear flickered in their eyes as one person instinctively took a step back but quickly realized how obvious that was and stiffly returned to their spot, frozen in place. 0

Wang Lei clenched his teeth and finally stopped kicking, fists tightly balled up as he cast a cold glare over the terrified group of subordinates. Breathing heavily, he growled menacingly: "A bunch of worthless things! Remember this: if anyone screws up again, I’ll make sure they never see tomorrow’s sun!" His voice was low and threatening, radiating a chilling murderous intent that made everyone too afraid to meet his gaze. 0

Panting with rage, Wang Lei delivered one last vicious kick to the fallen subordinate, sending him rolling aside in a pool of blood while he curled up on the ground, trembling helplessly. Watching the young man struggle in pain brought no pity to Wang Lei’s face; instead, it deepened his sense of frustration and humiliation at his own powerlessness. His anger burned like an unquenchable fire in his chest—hot and heavy—but he knew full well that this blunder was serious enough to ruin him completely. 0

Li Mu’s intrusion had undoubtedly thrown all his plans into disarray. Wang Lei understood that assassins never took high-risk jobs lightly; there was always someone behind every action giving orders or orchestrating events. This ambush was no coincidence; it was a carefully arranged conspiracy. Wang Lei's expression darkened further as he felt like a cornered beast—both furious and alert. He anxiously speculated that the assassin had likely obtained what he wanted from him, and those items might already be on their way to enemies. Every muscle in his body tensed up as a wave of deep unease washed over him. 0

"Damn it... this bunch is useless!" Wang Lei muttered under his breath as he scanned his subordinates with cold eyes. But deep down, he knew that the root of the problem lay not with these incompetent men but rather in his inability to secure his position within the gang. The fear gnawed at him like an oppressive weight; if this mission truly went awry, he knew he'd have to face their boss's wrath—who was ruthless and would tolerate neither betrayal nor mistakes. 0

Wang Lei struggled to steady his breathing and pulled out his phone from his pocket, fingers trembling slightly as he searched through his contacts list. The urgency and pressure within him intensified at that moment. The cold screen illuminated his face, making him appear even more gloomy and worried. He gritted his teeth while staring at the screen, desperately trying to suppress his inner turmoil. At this point, contacting their boss carelessly was not an option; this mistake was too significant. He needed to find a way to remedy things before they spiraled completely out of control—at least save himself so that there would be an opportunity for explanation and compensation later. 0

He turned to face the still-waiting subordinates around him with an icy glare and a low yet harsh tone: "What are you all standing around for? Get back to your posts immediately! Keep this place secure! No more mistakes!" His voice carried an oppressive forcefulness that brooked no dissent. All subordinates were stunned by this chilling aura; they nodded vigorously before scattering away like frightened rabbits back to their positions, eager to avoid drawing any further ire from their boss. 0

After watching his subordinates leave, Wang Lei finally let out a slight sigh of relief, but the pressure in his heart had not diminished in the slightest. He stood in the silent night breeze, feeling a chill seep into his bones, quietly contemplating his next move. He knew he had to remain calm; panicking would only worsen the situation. The only option was to negotiate with the boss, but at this moment, he lacked sufficient leverage and could only stabilize the situation before attempting to reach out to him. 0

Wang Lei's gaze gradually turned cold and resolute as he silently vowed to reclaim the humiliation he had suffered. He clenched his phone tightly, thinking coldly that no matter what it cost him, he would uncover who was pulling the strings behind the scenes. More importantly, he intended to engrave the lesson of this failure deeply into the minds of those who dared to challenge his authority. He understood clearly that only by staying alive could he find an opportunity to regain control and settle this score once and for all. 0
