"She's a mistress, shamelessly seducing someone else's husband!" I shouted, leading the charge. A few of my friends joined in, hurling insults alongside me. Some even took it a step further and physically confronted Zhou Shanshan.
"Alright, that's enough. Just teach her a lesson," I intervened, stopping my friends from going too far. Zhou Shanshan was left in a disheveled state, clutching her head and screaming.
The commotion drew the attention of our neighbors, who came out to see what was happening. Upon realizing she was the mistress, they began to gossip about her behind her back.
"How shameless!" one said.
"Seriously, such a pretty girl could do anything but choose to ruin someone else's family," another added.
"She's nothing but a seductress!"
I watched coldly from the sidelines. One of my friends, who was into social media, recorded the incident and posted it online. The footage of Zhou Shanshan being attacked sparked widespread discussion.
Before long, she was fired from her job. She moved to a more rundown neighborhood, spending her days hiding from people.
Ma Tao learned about Zhou Shanshan's situation but was too busy dealing with company matters to spare any energy for her.
"Wife, all my money is tied up in this. Can you help me out?" he feigned concern.
"I wish I could, but my parents used my money to buy a house, and I'm broke too," I replied, pretending to be sympathetic.
Ma Tao's face turned pale. I acted as if I felt sorry for him and suggested selling my jewelry.
He quickly refused. "How can you sell your jewelry? That's your dowry."
"Then sell the house you bought for Zhou Shanshan," I proposed.
Ma Tao paused in surprise.
"Why are you unwilling?"
"Uh, no, it's not..."
"I'll take care of it right away." Ma Tao quickly agreed.
Ma Tao sold his house, barely covering the breach of contract and the company's losses.
He was in a state of panic, yet still tried to persuade me.
"Wife, please stop causing trouble for Shan Shan."
I blinked and replied, "Sure, as long as you don't see her again."
Ma Tao repeatedly assured me,
"I won't see her again."
I smiled.
"Good."
I pretended to agree with him.
Behind his back, I contacted Shan Shan's parents and told them everything.
Sure enough, within a few days, Zhou Shanshan and her family stormed into the company.
She was pregnant with Ma Tao's child.
They demanded compensation from Ma Tao.
Ma Tao was in a frenzy.
Seizing the opportunity, I took out the divorce agreement.
"Ma Tao, do you want the shares or me?"
"You choose."
"Give me an answer within three days."
"Otherwise, we'll proceed with legal action."
Ma Tao had no choice but to comply.
He went to the office with Shan Shan's family to discuss what to do next.
"You must take responsibility; otherwise, we'll sue you!"
Shan Shan's father shouted loudly.
I almost laughed out loud.
Shan Shan's parents had no idea that Shan Shan was the mistress.
They still believed that the court would support them in their lawsuit.
Ma Tao was extremely frustrated.
"Just tell me how much you want," he said.
Shan Shan's parents exchanged glances and held up five fingers.
"Five hundred thousand."
"What?" Ma Tao thought he had misheard.
"Five hundred thousand. Our daughter is carrying your child now. If she can't get married in the future, aren't you obligated to compensate her?"
"Exactly! Our daughter was a girl when she was with you, and now she can't get married. If you don't pay, who will?" Shan Shan's parents shouted.
Ma Tao could no longer tolerate it.
"We agreed on two hundred thousand initially. Are you raising the price now?"
"Who told you to get our daughter pregnant? She might not be able to have children in the future. Isn't it only right to ask for more?" Shan Shan's parents were utterly shameless.
"Fine, let's go to court then."
At that moment, Shan Shan's parents hesitated.
"No, we can't go to court."
"Then what do you want?" Ma Tao asked helplessly.
Shan Shan's parents held up four fingers.
"Four hundred thousand. It can't be any less."
