Li Xue had been very busy lately; with the year coming to an end, she was studying hard for her exams. Every day at seven in the morning, she clocked in at work alongside Wang Xiaomin. The atmosphere in the entire company was tense, with every workstation occupied. The company in the capital was filled with talent, and every year countless people were eliminated due to seating issues.
Both Wang Xiaomin and Li Xue were newcomers who had just joined this year, so they naturally wouldn’t miss this assessment opportunity. She made her way to the conference room, preparing to continue reading her professional books. Just as she sat down, a shadow suddenly fell over her. Li Xue looked up and was taken aback. She hadn’t expected to run into Gu Jingchen here.
Gu Jingchen lowered his gaze at her and said, “Miss Li, long time no see.”
Snapping back to reality, Li Xue closed her book, stood up, and looked at him. “Manager Gu, long time no see.”
Gu Jingchen looked at her and asked, "Miss Li, how have you been lately?"
Li Xue replied, "Not bad."
Gu Jingchen continued to gaze at her, "Is that so?"
Li Xue then said, "If Manager Gu has nothing else, I’ll go read now."
Gu Jingchen nodded, "Mm."
Li Xue returned to her seat and opened her book.
Gu Jingchen stood there for a moment, watching her before turning to leave.
As Li Xue watched his retreating figure, she furrowed her brows slightly.

In the afternoon, Li Xue received a phone call.
It was from Chen Li.
Chen Li wanted to meet up with her.
Li Xue agreed.
After work, Li Xue arrived at the agreed location.
Chen Li was already waiting there.
She looked much more haggard and had matured significantly.
Li Xue sat down across from her.
Chen Li looked at her and said, "Xiaoxue, I asked you out today to apologize."
Li Xue responded, "Chen Li, you don’t need to apologize to me. We’re even now; you don’t owe me anything, and I don’t owe you anything either."
Chen Li looked at her earnestly, "Xiaoxue, I know I was wrong in the past. I regret it now."
Li Xue asked, "Is that why you wanted to meet me?"
Chen Li looked at her pleadingly, "Xiaoxue, I need your help."
Li Xue stared at her and asked, "What do you mean?"
Chen Li looked at her, "The Zhao Family is currently suppressing the Chen Family fiercely. The Chen Family is on the brink of collapse, and only you can help me."
Li Xue stared back, "How do you want me to help you?"
Chen Li continued, "You need to ask Manager Gu to assist the Chen Family."
Li Xue shook her head, "I've broken up with Gu Jingchen. I can't help you."
Chen Li's eyes widened, "You two have broken up?"
Li Xue replied firmly, "Chen Li, you've got the wrong person."
Chen Li pleaded, "Xue, can you really not help me?"
Li Xue responded coldly, "I'm sorry, I'm powerless to assist."
Chen Li's desperation grew, "Xue, I'm begging you."
Li Xue reiterated, "I told you, I can't help you."
Chen Li insisted again, "Xue, I'm begging you."
Li Xue replied with finality, "I said I can't do anything."
Chen Li pressed on, "Xue, after all these years of our relationship, can you really bear to see the Chen Family go bankrupt?"
Li Xue's expression hardened, "Chen Li, did you ever think about our relationship when you hurt me before?"
Chen Li's voice softened with regret, "Xue, I was wrong. I truly realize my mistakes now."
Li Xue looked at her coldly, "Chen Li, I'm talking to you now not because I still have feelings for you. I just want to see how miserable your life has become."
Chen Li's face turned pale.
Li Xue continued with a hint of satisfaction, "Chen Li, your pain is my pleasure."
Chen Li's expression grew increasingly grim.
As Li Xue picked up her bag and prepared to leave, she suddenly seemed to remember something. She turned back to Chen Li and said, "If you can hold on for half a month, perhaps there will be a turning point."
Hope reignited in Chen Li's eyes.
