What a tempting offer! Many were intrigued, but upon further reflection, no one dared to step up.
Some believed Xuande Emperor might just be joking; if he later denied it, they would be the ones in trouble.
It was clear that the Left Chancellor had been entrenched in the Court for many years, making him not so easy to topple. Even with the Emperor's decree, it was uncertain how long he could hold the position of Prime Minister; perhaps by the next day, he would be ousted.
Moreover, both tasks at hand were no easy feats. The matter of capturing bandits had proven fruitless even for the Dragon Guard, so how could they possibly succeed?
As for dealing with the Foreign Students, it sounded like an easy job, but in reality, it was quite taxing. The students sent from various countries were all of notable backgrounds, including princes among them. They came with a myriad of demands that needed careful consideration. Balancing national dignity with the need to maintain the country's reputation required a constant and delicate assessment—a balance that was particularly difficult to achieve.
Especially with a capricious Monarch whose moods fluctuated unpredictably, making it hard to gauge his expectations. A slight misstep could lead to disaster, putting one’s life at risk.
In the face of such a significant temptation, no one dared to speak up. The Xuande Emperor grew increasingly furious, cursing the Entire Court of Civil and Military Officials for being useless and drawing salaries without merit. He forced everyone to kneel for two hours before finally addressing some serious matters.
