A few people were discussing their strategies when unexpectedly, Yuanhui acted faster. Seeing Yong Huai's repeated excuses, he turned and sought out the Empress's family, the Chu Family. They had connections to send a message to the palace, and upon receiving it, the Empress boldly barged into Xuande Emperor's chamber.
The news of the Earth Dragon Turning Over had been kept under wraps, and Xuande Emperor was currently sipping on his medicinal soup. Upon hearing the dreadful news, he choked on the bitter concoction, coughing and gasping for breath, nearly losing his life in the process.
The Empress was frightened by this scene and trembled as she returned to Yuanhui. Xuande Emperor fixated on the medicine bowl, pondering for a long time before muttering to himself that he might as well go take a look; after all, there was no real loss in doing so. The royal family had indeed faced many calamities lately, and perhaps the Grand Temple was truly at fault.
Cai Zhuo heard this and opened his mouth several times but ultimately refrained from persuading him. When Yong Huai returned to the Office of Censors, it was just as Yuanhui was being summoned out by someone from the palace.
Yuanhui wore an unmistakable air of triumph; it seemed there was no need to trouble Lord Yong for verification anymore. Yuanhui knew that serving the royal family required utmost diligence; any slip-up would not be overlooked, regardless of his title as an Enlightened Monk.
"Thank you for your reminder, Lord Yong," he said. "However, I need to trouble you with something else. The body of Wisdom Supreme cannot be taken from the palace; I must ask you to take care of it for a while longer."
"What do you mean by 'a while longer'?" Yong Huai inquired, trying to ascertain how long Yuanhui would need to stay at the Grand Temple.
Yuanhui chuckled again, saying it could be three days or three months; after all, he only sensed a malevolent spirit inside and did not know its strength.
Yong Huai watched Yuanhui leave, standing still for a moment before feeling discontented. He made a trip to the palace gate but was not summoned by His Majesty. Instead, Cai Zhuo sent a eunuch to quietly inform him that Yuanhui was quite eloquent and had showcased some skills in front of His Majesty, earning him a bit more trust. At that moment, he was on his way to the Grand Temple.
"Lord Yong," Cai said, sharing his vigilance towards Yuanhui. "I have arranged for someone to keep an eye on him."
Hearing about these developments made Yong Huai's head ache. This Yuanhui seemed just as sinister as Wisdom Supreme; even the powerful Dragon Guard might struggle against him.
"Lord Yong," Cai continued, "I also have a message for you. I hope that Demon Catcher can assist in this matter. If Miss Sang has some free time, it would be even better if she could make a trip."
"Rest assured, I will speak with her," Yong Huai replied.
He brought news of Yuanhui heading to the Grand Temple back to Small Tavern, but Sang Qingxiao expressed her desire to see Wisdom Supreme's body.
Together with Misha and Old Vine lurking in the shadows, they descended into the eerie underground level two. Even standing outside the room, they could catch a faint scent wafting through the air—a fragrance that lingered enticingly despite its subtlety, making one want to inhale deeply several times.
Inside, ice cubes were plentiful; compared to before, Wisdom Supreme's body showed little change on the surface. Vines quietly extended outwards and wrapped around the corpse's wrist before retracting after a long pause.
The voice was heavy, and the speed of decay was alarming. Logically speaking, such a rate should not occur at this temperature. Yuanhui must have tampered with something, yet I couldn't discern what method had been employed.
