Upon seeing Yong Huai, Yuanhui immediately requested to see the body of Wisdom Supreme.
Yong Huai Xin suggested, "Don't you need to rest for a while first?"
Yuanhui displayed a strange smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. News had come that Wisdom Supreme had been killed during the demonic invasion, and he found it hard to believe. Although Wisdom Supreme sometimes had extreme ideas, the Buddha Cultivation Method itself was designed to resist demonic corruption, making him more resilient than most.
Holding onto this thought, Yuanhui came alone, wanting to see for himself what had happened. He couldn't find peace in his heart without seeing the person. The body of Wisdom Supreme was placed in the underground level of the Demon Catching Department, where Demon Catchers took turns guarding it daily to prevent any disturbances.
When Yuanhui saw the body, he paused, his face displaying an appropriate look of disbelief. Then came sorrow; he staggered a few steps and stopped not far from the corpse, letting out a long sigh before beginning to chant the Sutra.
Yong Huai didn't know how long he would chant, so he signaled for the other Demon Catchers to leave the room, giving Yuanhui some space alone. Standing outside, Yong Huai muttered something under his breath that was inaudible to Misha; even his small voice from The Office of Censors seemed to carry a hint of strength.
Once everyone inside had exited, Yuanhui's ears perked up as he continued chanting for a while longer before slowly stopping. He bent down to examine Wisdom Supreme's body closely, his face filled with regret. "What kind of Demon King did you provoke to end up with such a powerful Demon Seed?"
Despite countless reminders to cultivate his heart, he didn't listen. Now he's dead, and yet my own fate has been ruined! Let me see if there's anything left behind.
After inspecting the body, Yuanhui found Yong Huai waiting outside. His expression was one of deep sorrow; it seemed the news was indeed true. Out of jealousy, Wisdom Supreme's Inner Demon had worsened until he could no longer contain it and completely succumbed to darkness.
"This is all my fault," he lamented. "He insisted on going to Beijing when I should have stopped him. I knew he wasn't in a good state but misjudged the severity."
First Wulian, now him; as the Abbot, I truly haven't done enough.
"Life and death are fated; Master shouldn't blame yourself," Yong Huai consoled.
"Lord Yong," Yuanhui said, "I would like to ask for your help."
Yong Huai replied politely, "Please feel free to instruct me."
"With Wisdom Supreme in this state in the Underworld, his days will be difficult. For him as a human in another life, it will be even more challenging."
Now that he has become like this, I feel responsible and want to make amends. May I borrow this room for three days? I wish to communicate with the Underworld and arrange his path in the afterlife.
Yong Huai nodded in agreement but found it strange.
Yuanhui declined his offer to observe and instead asked him to procure some items.
Looking at the list Yuanhui handed over, Yong Huai promised to do it quickly but felt uneasy about some of the bloody items mentioned.
After Yuanhui closed the door behind him, instead of sending his subordinates off on errands, Yong Huai kept a watchful eye and turned towards the Small Tavern. After explaining what had transpired during their meeting, he laid out the list before everyone at the Small Tavern.
"Child Urine? Virgin Blood? Why is this prescription so sinister?" Li Cu said, pushing the prescription away with disdain.
Misha thought for a moment and replied, "In some remote areas, Buddhist teachings consider Child Urine and Virgin Blood to be the purest substances."
"But can these really pave the way for future generations?" Misha continued. "I've read all the texts from Puzhao Temple, and there are no records regarding this. Perhaps it's a private collection of Yuanhui Master?"
