"Those who go barefoot aren't afraid of shoes; they just worry about being dragged back into trouble later," Lian Baoying said, her voice filled with bravado. "We have three people here who can fight. We'll give him a good beating and see how he continues to pester us!"
With that, she declared her intention to sleep, ignoring her own home and diving straight into Wen Zhaojun's blanket. She wouldn't allow Wen to read any more, wrapping her arms around her waist as they tumbled into the quilt together. Wen struggled for a moment before simply closing her eyes.
After returning to her room, Sang Qingxiao was asked by Li Cu about Wang Kuan. "Does he have anything to do with you?"
"Before I entered Jingjing City, I definitely made some preparations, and Wang Kuan was one of them," Sang replied. "He seems like a slippery character."
"Don't judge a book by its cover. This person is quite deep and good at hiding his true self. He could have returned to his original identity long ago, but out of patience for me, he has been lurking in the Imperial Academy, playing his role perfectly. He has even done some things privately without anyone suspecting him."
"Sounds pretty dangerous," Li Cu remarked.
"His intentions are simple; he's not a bad person."
That evening, Li Cu made a trip back to the Small Tavern, bringing along unfinished assignments and returning with completed ones. The little ones had even written her letters filled with childish words that reflected their moods.
Qi Xiaomian had also asked Li Cu if she needed help from anyone.
"Xiaoxiao, it seems Qi Xiaomian even sent someone to follow us. He knows everything we do at Chen Residence. How is he tracking us? I didn't even notice."
"Knowing is one thing; demons have their own methods as long as they don't cause trouble."
During class, among the four-person group, only Sang Qingxiao could barely pay attention. Li Cu certainly wasn't focused on the lesson, while Lian Baoying and Wen Zhaojun were completely out of it. Their eyes frequently darted towards the Boys' Academy, wishing they could be there watching Wang Kuan's every move.
When Wen Zhaojun was called on to answer questions, she got two out of three wrong and was sent directly to the Headmaster afterward, along with Sang Qingxiao.
As they walked together, Lian Baoying muttered under her breath, "I told you not to get too close to the students. They get distracted easily and end up dragging us into trouble."
Wen Zhaojun's face turned red as she repeatedly apologized.
Sang Qingxiao remarked, "Meng Zhangyuan must have other matters to discuss with me."
When she finally met the Headmaster, his expression seemed complex. He first glanced at Sang Qingxiao before asking why Wen Zhaojun had been so distracted during class.
Wen simply replied that she hadn't slept well. Meng Zhangyuan offered some gentle advice before allowing her to leave.
Once Wen Zhaojun was far enough away, Sang Qingxiao smiled and sat across from Meng Zhangyuan. "So it turns out Wen Zhaojun was just a decoy; you really wanted to see me all along. Is there something private you need to discuss?"
Meng Zhangyuan's expression shifted as he said, "I need your help with something."
"What are you busy with? If you have time next semester, come with me to a place."
Sang Qingxiao nodded in agreement.
The following semester, Sang Qingxiao saw Meng Zhangyuan, who had shed her Master robes. She had applied light makeup and chosen suitable women's attire, looking elegant and comfortable, completely different from her serious demeanor at the academy.
