Yue exclaimed, "Has something happened to Cheng Tou?" He had been following Lord Yue for quite some time, and still held some face in front of him. "Sigh! Who can say otherwise? The master is troubled, and his temper has worsened. So many people have been mobilized, yet there's still no clue."
The officer sighed, lamenting his misfortune. "If you ask me, Cheng Tou is the first, but he certainly won't be the last. We don't even know who the next unfortunate soul will be. Right now, the brothers are eager to go door to door; the most basic tasks might just save their lives."
Yue continued to inquire, wondering how long this city would remain under lockdown.
The officer wore a pained expression. "We have to catch the murderer. In the past, we could have thought of a method to randomly grab someone and pass it off as justice. But now, unless we catch the real culprit, Lord Yue won't let this go."
Yue sighed at the hardships faced by the officials and took out some warm rations to send them on their way.
After closing the door, he brought this bit of news to the backyard and kindly suggested, "With the lockdown date uncertain, if any of you have urgent matters, you might as well sneak away at night. When the officers search, I still have the means to cover for you."
"We're not planning to trouble Yue just yet," Sang Qingxiao replied with a smile. "This case is too interesting; solving it will be like a game."
"The Men's Wedding Dress Case files are all here; Yue should take a look at them too."
Yue stared at those books for a moment before smiling and saying, "I'll pass. If I see them, I'll remember them. If I accidentally let slip some information that hasn't been disclosed by the government while dealing with Officer, that would be troublesome."
"You all keep busy; I'll go make something for you to eat."
At that moment, Li Cu impatiently tossed her case files onto the table, looking pained. "I'm going out to gather information."
Sang Qingxiao handed her a list directly. "Keep an eye on these few people."
"Who are they?"
"They're part of Yue Ting's little group—six people in total. Two are already dead; this is the list of the remaining four. If you can't keep an eye on them alone, you can ask Old Vine for help."
Li Cu said cheerfully, "As long as the murderer continues targeting those four, we can catch him! Then we can leave the city soon!"
"Don't be too optimistic," Sang Qingxiao cautioned. "Keeping an eye on these four is merely based on suspicion that they were killed by an imitator. If I'm wrong, this case still has more to investigate."
"Got it! I'm off."
Li Cu was gone for several hours and returned late at night with bad news—another one was dead; that made three.
Seeing her return empty-handed, Sang Qingxiao guessed she had likely failed in her task but still asked, "Weren't you keeping an eye on those few people?"
Li Cu drooped her ears. "I was watching one of them while Old Vine had others monitoring the other three. The one who died was precisely the one I was watching."
"Did you see the murderer?"
This was the strangest part; I hadn't slacked off at all. I kept my eyes wide open for several hours, and during that time, I didn't see anyone coming or going.
Later, I caught a whiff of blood and rushed into the room, only to find that someone was already dead. A long knife had pierced the heart, a clean kill. When I entered, the blood was still warm. I thought that the person must not have gone far, so I ran outside to search but found no trace of anyone.
I went back and carefully searched the room again, but there were no signs left behind.
Li Cu sighed in frustration, "This city of Huzhou must be cursed for me. Ever since I entered, I've faced my own incompetence time and again."
