If only it were that simple, Ouyang Jun thought as he rolled his eyes inwardly. He patiently added, "Our Ouyang Family has too many secrets; therefore, these guards can only protect the perimeter."
The black-clad men appeared suddenly within the inner courtyard of the Ouyang Family. The guards did not receive immediate news; by the time they noticed something was wrong and rushed over, it was already too late.
Not only did the intruders steal the divine sword, but they also killed many members of the Ouyang Family and set off a great fire.
"That doesn’t make sense," Liang Shangshan interrupted again. "Even if they were killing people silently, surely someone would have seen or heard something when the house caught fire? Once they saw flames, they could have rushed over in time to put it out."
The Ouyang estate was quite large; it wouldn’t be possible for just one fire to burn so completely without taking at least ten days or more. Moreover, that fire seemed to chase after you—were those black-clad men hiding among you?
Furthermore, you just said their only goal was to steal the divine sword; however, it seems their actual intention was to wipe out your entire Ouyang Family!
"Ouyang brother," Liang Shangshan pressed on. "You’re not being honest with us! We’re at a critical juncture where lives are at stake and your family’s survival hangs in the balance, yet you’re still holding back information!"
Ouyang Jun didn’t want to recount such an absurd tale; however, what had happened to the Ouyang Family was even stranger than he could describe. This strangeness led him to harbor suspicions and fears—truthfully speaking, he was afraid.
