Inside the steamer was a Thin-Skinned, Meat-Filled Pure Pork Bun, priced at Five Wen each. There were also congee, Vegetarian Three Fresh Buns, Wontons, Tofu Pudding, Bone Broth Noodles, and Sauce-Flavored Cake.
Considering the prices, it wasn't exactly cheap. The Old-Fashioned Breakfast Shop's Sesame Cake was only two Wen each, and the buns were just three Wen. Some questioned the value, but Sang Qingxiao remained silent. Instead, he broke open a Pork Bun and revealed the solid meatball inside, devoid of any fillers. The diners couldn't help but swallow hard, and soon there were no more doubts.
For Five Wen each for a pure Pork Bun versus three Wen for one filled with mostly scallions, the diners knew how to choose, especially since the flavor was superior.
Within less than an hour, breakfast was sold out. By noon, Sang Qingxiao prepared fresh dishes that had been stir-fried earlier. There were four meat dishes: Braised Pork, Scallion Lamb Stir-Fry, Ginger Duck, and Five-Spice Smoked Fish. Additionally, there were six vegetarian dishes: Mapo Tofu, Stewed Eggplant with Green Beans, Stir-Fried Green Peppers with Eggs, Sour And Spicy Shredded Potatoes, Minced Meat with Sour Green Beans, and Spicy Lotus Root.
Though vegetarian, all the dishes were mixed with minced meat, eggs, or lard. Each meat dish cost ten Wen and each vegetarian dish also cost ten Wen. Rice was unlimited and came with a complimentary bowl of Radish and Pig Lung Soup.
Business was thriving and even attracted a few members from The Office of Censors. The Yongxin Marquis had just returned this morning and was immediately appointed by His Majesty as Deputy Censor of the Left in the Censorate; he would be staying in the Capital from now on.
The members of The Office of Censors chatted while eating. "Isn't the Yongxin Marquis returning to the Military? The border is still at war."
"The war is nearing its end; the court has its arrangements. Why should we worry?"
"What about the Wolf Howl Camp? That was trained by the Yongxin Marquis himself."
"The three thousand men of Wolf Howl Camp have been designated as the Yongxin Marquis's private soldiers. Tsk! Even the princes don't have official private soldiers; His Majesty truly favors this nephew."
Sang Qingxiao leaned in to listen closely. So that team of Black Knights this morning belonged to the Yongxin Marquis?
He had heard of this Yongxin Marquis before. At eight years old, he entered Jingjing City and was personally raised by His Majesty. By ten, he joined the military camp and had been there for ten years now. Initially, everyone thought His Majesty wanted to gain control over the Lian Family Army by sending his nephew as an insider.
However, after entering the military camp, this young man rarely approached General Lian. Starting from being a lowly soldier, he gathered a group of misfits and forged his own Wolf Howl Camp. In every battle, he led them to charge at the forefront.
He was indeed a person worthy of respect.
After a few days of operation, the snack bar had gained quite a reputation, attracting many visitors, with lines often stretching to the street corner. Since it appeared that she was the only one managing the place, she decided to cancel dinner service and focus on preparing more for breakfast and lunch.
One afternoon, as Sang Qingxiao was closing up, Qilang squeezed through the gap in the door.
"Miss Sang, I've brought you some silver," Qilang said with a smile.
Hearing him call her "Miss Sang," Sang Qingxiao realized that he had uncovered some details about her background.
