As everyone was filled with confusion, a sudden and intense sound of battle erupted from a distance, rumbling like distant thunder, causing their eardrums to buzz.
Moments later, several disheveled figures stumbled toward them at an astonishing speed, as if something monstrous were chasing them from behind.
Upon closer inspection, the individuals were dressed in Heaven's Gate attire, their clothes tattered and covered in blood and wounds. Some were even missing arms or legs, looking utterly miserable.
Especially striking were their eyes, filled with fear and despair, yet upon seeing Chen Li and the others, a glimmer of hope ignited within them, like a drowning person grasping for the last straw.
"Help us!" one of the Cultivators cried out, his face pale and lips trembling as he struggled to utter a few words, his voice hoarse like a broken wind instrument.
Before he could finish speaking, he suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood, swaying dangerously as if about to collapse.
Chen Li reacted swiftly, stepping forward to support him. "What happened? What is chasing you?" he asked in a low voice, his gaze scanning the area behind them warily.
The Cultivator gasped for breath, his eyes wide with terror. "It's... it's demonic creatures! So many demonic creatures!"
No sooner had he spoken than the ground began to tremble in the distance, an overwhelming Demonic Energy sweeping toward them as if it intended to devour everything in its path.
Everyone's expressions changed drastically as they summoned their magical artifacts, preparing for battle.
"They're coming!" Xuanjizi shouted softly, waving his whisk in a swift motion that sent a flash of golden light to shield everyone behind him.
From the swirling black mist emerged countless terrifying demonic creatures, surging toward them like a tidal wave.
These creatures varied in form; some resembled gigantic spiders, others had wings like lizards, while some looked like skeletal humanoids—each one more grotesque than the last, exuding a nauseating stench of decay.
"Kill!" Chen Li roared as he drew his Broken Sword. A sharp beam of sword light flashed through the air, instantly cleaving several of the charging demons in half.
The others joined the fray as well; spells illuminated the previously dim battlefield like daylight.
The battle was exceptionally fierce; although these demonic creatures weren't particularly strong individually, their sheer numbers made them reckless and ferocious as they lunged at the group like rabid dogs.
Despite Chen Li and his companions being relatively powerful, they began to feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of foes. The Heaven's Gate Cultivators were already severely injured, making their situation even more dire; soon enough, some collapsed into pools of blood under the relentless assault.
"This won't do!" Chen Li exclaimed while slicing through demons with his sword. "We need to find a way to break through!"
Just then, Shen Qingyue suddenly pointed into the distance and exclaimed, "Look over there!"
Everyone followed her finger and saw a massive figure slowly emerging behind the horde of demons—like a small mountain radiating an unsettling aura of terror.
The figure was indistinct in detail but two crimson eyes could be faintly seen glowing like enormous lanterns flickering with an eerie light in the darkness.
What is that thing? Xuanjizi's expression turned grave, a hint of fear flashing in his eyes.
I don't know, but it feels dangerous! Chen Li said in a low voice; perhaps that thing is controlling these monsters! He realized he no longer had time to ponder how these creatures had appeared here. The situation was urgent, and the only correct course of action was to escape first.
With that thought, Chen Li couldn't help but pat the blade of the Broken Sword. The rusted sword hummed in response, as if acknowledging his call.
Take me there, closer to those eyes.
Before he could finish speaking, the usually timid Broken Sword suddenly erupted with blinding light, expanding several times its size, resembling a massive shovel that abruptly lifted Chen Li off the ground.
Before he could react, the Broken Sword transformed into a Liuguang and shot towards the crimson Giant Eye with a whoosh.
This sudden turn of events caught Chen Li off guard; he was being spun through the air by the Broken Sword, his stomach churning violently.
Hey! Slow down! I'm going to be sick!
He couldn't help but complain, only to find that his voice was completely drowned out by the howling wind.
This Broken Sword, which had always been lazy and sluggish like an old man, why was it suddenly so proactive?
Chen Li felt puzzled yet vaguely excited. This sudden burst of speed and power gave him immense confidence. With this Broken Sword, perhaps dealing with these monsters wouldn't be such a difficult task after all.
He had observed the situation for quite some time. These monsters were fearless and seemed to lack any awareness. It felt as if they were controlled by some kind of puppeteer. Perhaps all these creatures were under the control of those eyes. If he could just deal with those eyes, all problems would be easily resolved.
The Broken Sword moved swiftly, almost reaching the Giant Eye in the blink of an eye. Only then did Chen Li see clearly; what he thought were eyes were actually two blazing Demon Flames burning fiercely atop the massive creature's head.
The monster's body was shrouded in black mist, making it hard to discern its true form, but the suffocating pressure it exuded felt like a mountain pressing down on Chen Li, leaving him breathless.
"Damn, this thing is huge!" Chen Li couldn't help but curse.
He felt like a tiny mosquito facing a colossal ancient beast. The Broken Sword circled in the air, seemingly searching for the right moment to strike. Chen Li took a deep breath, suppressing the fear within him, and gripped the hilt of his sword tightly. He knew this was a life-or-death battle; one misstep could lead to his obliteration.
At that moment, the two masses of Demon Flame suddenly surged violently, and a powerful mental force flooded in like a tide, crashing against Chen Li's Sea of Consciousness. Intense pain pierced through him like a red-hot iron spike, stabbing deep into his Sea of Consciousness. He let out a muffled groan as darkness swirled before his eyes, nearly causing him to faint.
The creature's mental power was far stronger than he had anticipated. If it were anyone else, they would have likely been completely annihilated. However, faced with such a brutal and sudden attack, Chen Li smiled.
"Fool, you came right to me," he thought darkly, a cold smirk curling at the corners of his mouth. He had been struggling to find a way to deal with this massive creature, and now it had foolishly thrust its mental power into his Sea of Consciousness—essentially digging its own grave.
A surge of determination washed over him as all of Chen Li's consciousness instantly coalesced into an invisible hand that struck down fiercely at the invading mental force. It was strong, but he was stronger! Though his body couldn't withstand excessive blood energy, his Divine Soul was unrestrained. To clash with him head-on was to seek death!
Boom!
A deafening explosion erupted within Chen Li's Sea of Consciousness, as if the very heavens were collapsing. The creature let out a piercing howl as the two masses of Demon Flame flickered violently, on the verge of extinguishing. Chen Li groaned again, blood seeping from the corner of his mouth, his face pale as paper. This strike had severely injured the creature but also inflicted significant backlash on him.
