A chilling laughter echoed through the mountains as three shadowy figures slowly emerged from the black mist, like demons rising from hell. Their faces were twisted in grotesque expressions, exuding a nauseating stench.
One of them, with eyes darting greedily, fixated on Shen Qingyue, licking his lips and uttering a bone-chilling sound: "Hehe, this delicate little girl, with such pure Divine Soul Power, would be perfect for refining Divine Soul Power. It would surely enhance my cultivation!"
Shen Qingyue's brows furrowed, a glint of cold light flashing in her eyes. Although she was turning away, the pride of being the Celestial Empress remained within her. The lewd teasing ignited a surge of anger within her.
Chen Li quickly pulled Shen Qingyue behind him, coldly staring at the three demonic figures before them. Though he appeared calm on the surface, his heart raced with tension. The aura of these three demons was powerful, far surpassing any enemy he had encountered before. Clearly, relying solely on brute force was not an option!
With that thought in mind, Chen Li's eyes shifted, and a fawning smile spread across his face. He immediately bowed deeply to the three demons, speaking with utmost respect: "Esteemed seniors, you have finally appeared! I have been waiting for you for quite some time!"
The three demons, initially fierce and ready to attack Chen Li and Shen Qingyue, were momentarily taken aback by his unexpected words. They exchanged wary glances, scrutinizing this strange fellow before them, unsure of what he was up to.
"Senior Bloodshadow Man was killed by those scoundrels from the Holy Spirit Palace! I pretended to pledge allegiance to infiltrate their ranks and seek revenge for Senior Bloodshadow Man! Now that you three seniors have appeared, I humbly request your assistance in avenging him!" Chen Li spoke with conviction, even wiping away nonexistent tears from his eyes.
At this point, the three demons were even more bewildered. What was going on? This kid had secretly released their nourishment and claimed to be in the same trench as them?
Despite their years of existence, they couldn't comprehend what this boy meant.
Among them was a burly demon dressed in red named Blood Butcher, one of the elders of the Blood Fiend Sect. He was known for his violent temper and ruthless nature. Seeing Chen Li's demeanor only fueled his rage further as he lifted Chen Li effortlessly by the collar as if he were a mere chick: "You little brat! How dare you lie! It was clearly you who killed Senior Bloodshadow Man!"
Chen Li was lifted into the air, his legs flailing, yet he dared not use any spiritual power to resist. He put on a pitiful expression and said with a whimper, "Senior, look at how small I am. How could I possibly have the strength to kill you, Bloodshadow Man? I was framed by Chen Ming from the Holy Spirit Palace!"
"Hmph! Still trying to deceive us? Bloodshadow Man left a mark in your Sea of Consciousness; do you think you can trick us?"
Chen Li shook his head repeatedly, feigning great grievance. "Senior, you can't wrongfully accuse me! My name is Chen Li. Bloodshadow Man hates Chen Ming. If you don't believe me, you can check! I pretended to betray Bloodshadow Man just to survive. The mark left in my Sea of Consciousness is for you seniors to see, so that you can take revenge for him!"
His words were half true and half false; it was true that he had borrowed Chen Ming's name, but false that he had any intention of aiding the demon clan. However, he had previously managed to deceive one Bloodshadow Man, and now he felt confident he could fool these three demons as well.
The three hesitated for a moment. Although they were brutal, they were not foolish. They naturally could not easily trust Chen Li's words when there were flaws in his story. Yet the memories contained in the mark seemed consistent with what Chen Li said.
Blood Butcher snorted coldly and threw Chen Li to the ground: "At such a young age, full of lies! If you truly pledged allegiance, why would you let go of the Two-Legged Sheep we captured?"
Chen Li quickly scrambled up, dusting himself off as he protested, "Senior, I really didn't lie! Everything I said is true; otherwise, why would I come to inform you knowing I have a mark? I'm only here to help Bloodshadow Man take revenge!"
He paused for a moment, his eyes darting around before adding, "That's why I set a trap and let everyone go, preparing to earn my stripes from within and undermine those forces!"
The three demons exchanged glances, seemingly swayed by Chen Li's words.
"What do you mean by earning your stripes?" Blood Butcher asked.
Chen Li's mind raced as he concocted a plan: "I intend to take these weaklings back to the Imperial Academy. The empire will surely reward me for it. Once I'm recognized as a core member of the academy, if they make any moves, I can notify you seniors at any time. That way, I can prove my loyalty!"
Moreover, I know that the Three Major Forces have sent many people to Azure Dragon Mountain Range. If I help you seniors coordinate our efforts against them, won't your resources be restored?
The three demons exchanged glances again as if holding a silent conference with their eyes.
Blood Butcher grunted roughly and slammed Chen Li back down onto the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust. "You little brat, we'll trust you this once. But if you dare play tricks on us, I'll skin you alive and make sure you wish you were dead!"
Chen Li was thrown down hard but dared not show any dissatisfaction. He quickly got up and put on an expression of heartfelt gratitude: "Thank you, seniors! Thank you! My loyalty to all of you is as bright as day!"
As he spoke, he secretly rubbed his sore backside and cursed inwardly: This old demon is ruthless; if it weren't for my tough skin and flesh, I'd be shattered by now.
"Enough nonsense!" said another slender demon with a pale complexion named Blood Bat. "We understand what you mean by earning your stripes. But how can one person like you manage to coordinate efforts and capture all the people from the Three Major Forces?"
Chen Li secretly breathed a sigh of relief; he knew he had initially gained the trust of these demons.
He rolled his eyes, a plan forming in his mind. Feigning mystery, he lowered his voice and said, "Seniors, as long as you let me take these scraps, I will surely catch the attention of the Core Disciples. Once I have their whereabouts, won't it be easy to track them down? At that point, there will be as many Two-Legged Sheep as we desire."
The three demons exchanged glances, a glimmer of greed flashing in their eyes.
Blood Butcher licked his lips in excitement, as if he could already see countless Two-Legged Sheep beckoning to him.
"Little brat, if you can pull this off, there will be a reward for you!"
Chen Li sneered inwardly but maintained an outward appearance of fear and respect. "It is an honor for a lowly person like me to serve such esteemed seniors!"
