When did they take my mother away?
Chen Li suppressed his emotions and squeezed out a sentence through gritted teeth.
The old man struggled to lift his eyelids, his murky gaze landing on Chen Li's face. A day ago.
Chen Li suddenly raised his head, a violent wave of Spiritual Energy emanating from him. Perhaps he could catch up! I must save my mother!
With that, Chen Li turned to leave.
"Little one, it’s useless to go now," the old man's weak voice suddenly grew urgent, as if fearing that if he spoke too slowly, Chen Li would leave.
Though the voice was frail, it still made Chen Li pause in his tracks. He turned to look at the old man, his eyes bloodshot. "Senior, what do you mean?"
The old man took a deep breath before forcing a bitter smile. "You can't keep up with the Demon Lord's speed, and besides, they have a Demon Vessel, which is extremely fast. Even if you chase after them now, it would be futile."
Chen Li's expression instantly darkened.
Knowing where his mother was but being unable to save her was the most painful thing for him! Ever since he had appeared in this world with the system while his mother was pregnant with him, he had fully accepted his identity during those ten months of gestation, the bloodline merging seamlessly with hers.
Thus, even though he had a system, he had always aimed to help his family live a good life and cultivate in peace. But who would have thought that in this world, living easily and happily would be so difficult! Even the demons had set their sights on them, targeting his mother.
Was he really going to watch helplessly as they extracted her soul and killed her?
Listening to the old man's warning, Chen Li's voice began to tremble involuntarily.
He had never felt such despair before. The most painful part was that his only hope had once again slipped away.
"Little one, your mother won't die without five years."
The old man's voice rang out again, slowly enough for Chen Li to hear every word clearly.
"W-what do you mean?" Chen Li was taken aback, staring blankly at the old man, unable to comprehend what he was saying.
The old man felt a sense of relief as he saw him retract his steps.
In his weakened state, he slowly explained, "For anyone from the Demon Clan to absorb another's Divine Soul to strengthen their own spirit is an act against the heavens. To complete that final step, it takes at least five years. Five years later, when the rules are at their weakest, is when the Demonic Energy will be at its strongest, and only then will they truly begin their sacrificial rituals!"
"So, you need not worry about your mother; at least for these five years, she will live well."
Upon hearing this, Chen Li felt a slight sense of calm settle in his heart. All his rational thoughts returned, allowing him to regain his composure.
Five years. Although it was a long time, at least there was still time left. Five years was enough!
Chen Li took a deep breath and bowed deeply to the old man. "Thank you for informing me, senior."
"No need for such formalities," the old man shook his head. "Old Madam cannot help you much; I only hope you can rescue Shen Wanzhou."
"Five years is enough!" Chen Li's gaze became resolute, and his tone grew strong and powerful. "We will definitely save our mother!"
With his heart finally at ease, Chen Li paused for a moment before scanning the other imprisoned Cultivators in the cave. His tone turned heavier as he said, "But first and foremost, we need to figure out how to rescue you all."
The old man was taken aback by this statement.
Then, his cloudy eyes shifted slightly, as if he could hardly believe what he had just heard. He had been trapped here for so long that he had forgotten what it felt like to be cared for.
They were bound in this dark Demon Cave, their Divine Souls tightly locked away, their Flesh almost fused with the stone walls. Any slightest movement would be immediately sensed by the Demon Clan.
Thus, throughout history, even though some had come to rescue them, none had ever managed to leave this prison.
Gradually, regardless of what kind of Cultivator they were, no one dared to risk their lives to save these half-dead souls anymore. They were considered abandoned pawns.
Yet unexpectedly, here were two mere children of eight or nine years old who still thought about saving his old life!
Unbeknownst to him, a warm current surged in his heart, making his cold heart feel as if it had regained a hint of warmth.
"Children, I appreciate your kindness," the old man's hoarse voice trembled slightly. "But the restrictions of the Demon Cave are too powerful; you cannot save us."
"Senior, please don't jump to conclusions just yet." Chen Li interrupted the old man, his tone firm and unwavering. "Now that I am here, I will not leave empty-handed. Please tell me, what exactly is this restriction?"
The old man sighed, realizing that although this child was young, his demeanor was remarkably mature. It seemed futile to try to dissuade him from his determination. Rather than persuade them, it would be better to let them truly understand how difficult it was to save him.
He began to explain slowly: "This restriction is called the Soul Devouring Lock. It continuously absorbs our Divine Soul power to nourish the Demon Cave while also merging our Flesh with these stone walls. To break this restriction, one must—"
He paused for a moment, a glimmer of despair flashing in his eyes. "One must possess a powerful spiritual artifact capable of suppressing Demonic Energy to sever it or have Divine Soul power far exceeding that of a Demon Lord."
Upon hearing this, Shen Qingyue furrowed her brows tightly. Both methods were far from simple. No wonder the old man said they could not save him.
"Children, you cannot save us. You should leave quickly," the old man's murky eyes flashed with sorrow. "Otherwise, when the Blood Fiend Sect arrives and discovers you, you won't be able to leave."
His voice wheezed like an old bellows on the verge of collapse, carrying a heavy scent of decay.
Chen Li's tightly furrowed face showed no sign of relaxation. He stared at the old man, his dark eyes deep and unfathomable for someone so young.
After a long moment of contemplation, he finally emerged from his thoughts and looked at the old man with a soft yet determined voice: "Senior, perhaps I have a way to save you!"
At these words, the old man's gaze momentarily froze, as if his cloudy eyes had been covered with a layer of dust. He strained to look at Chen Li, trying to ascertain how credible this statement was.
Even his nearly skeletal frame seemed to regain a glimmer of hope and vitality because of Chen Li's words. Here, they were merely living corpses waiting for death.
Chen Li's words gave him immense hope—a strong light in this dark existence. However, when his gaze fell upon Chen Li's small body, the light in his eyes dimmed once more.
Such things are too extravagant for him.
Child, I know you have a kind heart, but the restrictions of the Soul Devouring Lock are far too powerful for you to comprehend. Listen to me, leave quickly, and do not throw away your life.
Senior, although I do not possess the power to surpass the Demon Lord, nor do I have a powerful spiritual weapon, I can dispel Demonic Energy.
