In the early morning, a young woman was found dead in a park in the city center, her body surrounded by scattered cherry blossom petals blown by the wind, creating an exceptionally tragic and eerie scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was named Shizuka, a financial manager at a well-known local company, who was well-liked during her lifetime. There were no obvious enemies or signs of unusual behavior.
The case quickly garnered widespread attention from the public, putting immense pressure on the police. Upon receiving the notification, Silence rushed to the scene immediately. Standing outside the police tape, she scanned her surroundings, her brow slightly furrowed as if searching for clues.
"Was there anything unusual about the body?" Silence asked the forensic expert beside her.
"Aside from clear ligature marks on the neck, there are no other external injuries. The preliminary judgment is asphyxiation," the forensic expert replied succinctly.
Silence nodded and crouched down to examine the environment around the body closely. Suddenly, her gaze was drawn to a vibrant cherry blossom petal lying near the deceased's hand. This petal was unusually bright, as if freshly picked from a tree, contrasting sharply with the slightly wilted petals surrounding it.
"This petal..." Silence murmured to herself before standing up and telling the accompanying officer, "I need to review all surveillance footage from the park, especially from last night to this morning."
On the screens in the surveillance room, frames flashed by rapidly as Silence focused intently on the screen, not missing any detail. Time ticked away until one frame froze on a man wearing a black trench coat, hat, and mask. Silence's eyes sharpened instantly.
"It's him," she said, pointing at the man on the screen. "Pay attention to his movements and route; he is likely connected to this case."
The officer immediately followed Silence's instructions to track the man's whereabouts. However, it seemed that he was well aware of surveillance equipment, always managing to evade cameras at critical moments or using crowds as cover, making tracking exceptionally difficult.
"He's very cunning," Silence said in a low voice. "We can't give up; we need to keep investigating. He must have left something behind."
After several hours of effort, police finally found traces of the man outside a convenience store near the park. Surveillance showed him purchasing a bottle of mineral water and briefly removing his mask while paying. Although it was only for a moment, it was enough for the police to capture his facial features.
"Immediately cross-reference with our database to identify this person," Silence ordered decisively.
Before long, results came in: the man was named Kudo, a former professional assassin wanted by police for multiple murders but had managed to evade capture until now.
Upon learning Kudo's identity, Silence quickly organized a team for an arrest operation. After meticulous planning and intense pursuit, police finally apprehended Kudo in an abandoned warehouse.
In the interrogation room, Kudo initially attempted to deny everything when faced with Silence's questioning. However, under her relentless reasoning and pressure, his psychological defenses crumbled, and he ultimately confessed to his crimes.
