A few days later, Lin Tianyu and his companions finally arrived near Tokyo. They decided to take a break and rest for a while, waiting to gather more information.
Just then, a loud rumble of engines echoed from a distance, growing closer by the second.
"Someone's coming, hide!" Lin Tianyu ordered in a low voice, his alertness evident.
Lin Yi and the others quickly dispersed, seeking suitable cover.
Before long, several snow trucks came into view, slowly driving along the road. Within ten minutes, these vehicles approached and came to a stop nearby.
Once the trucks halted, a group of Little Demons jumped down from them. These Little Demons were short in stature but carried large oil barrels in their hands.
Lin Tianyu quietly moved closer to Chiba Natsuki and whispered, "Chiba, could you help me listen to what they’re saying?"
Chiba Natsuki nodded and leaned in to eavesdrop on the conversation among the Japanese soldiers.
One of the Little Demons complained, "This damn weather! We have to come out here looking for supplies when we could be having fun in the city with the flower girls!"
Another Little Demon chimed in, "Yeah, it’s freezing out here. I really don’t want to suffer like this."
However, a Little Leader among them approached and shouted loudly, "Enough with the chatter! Focus on your work! Who do you think we are? Just low-level members of the Hashimoto Family? All this dirty work falls on us!"
"After we finish this mission, I'll take you all to see the Songstress for some enjoyment," he added.
The earlier Little Demon continued to vent his frustrations. "Before the apocalypse, I was a low-ranking samurai in the Hashimoto Family. I had a beautiful and gentle wife at home, yet I was often bullied by the higher-ups in my family! Sometimes I would even catch them in the act."
The humiliation and pain he endured were unbearable. As a low-ranking samurai, he felt powerless and could only suffer in silence.
Now that the world had ended, he still had to endure suffering outside while his wife belonged to someone else!
His words instantly resonated with everyone present. They recalled their own past experiences and hardships, a wave of indescribable sadness and anger swelling within them. An atmosphere of heaviness enveloped the scene.
As the Little Demons searched for supplies, they shared their experiences and feelings with one another. The Little Leader looked at his subordinates with a bittersweet expression, feeling a sense of helplessness. Wasn't he just like them?
We all come from the same background, and I know everyone is struggling! The Little Leader took a deep breath, trying to calm his emotions.
"So what? Whether it's the end of the world or not, we're still alive! That makes us luckier than many!"
Hearing this, everyone fell silent. Indeed, surviving was no easy feat.
"Captain, tell us a story from your past!" suddenly suggested one of the Little Demons.
Seeing the curious expressions on the faces of the other Little Demons, the Little Leader knew they wanted to hear more, so he began to recount his tale:
"Before the apocalypse, I worked in a foreign enterprise as part of the Hashimoto Family in a middle management position, and my income was quite decent. At that time, the people from the Hashimoto Family treated me very well, which puzzled me.
After all, there were so many employees in the company; why were all the resources directed towards me?
Then one day, I left work early and unexpectedly discovered that the company president was tightly embracing my wife!"
