"Are you afraid of me?" The Fox Man smiled as he released the hand that had been covering Wenxin's mouth, a hint of a smile playing at the corners of his lips.
Though Wenxin felt a twinge of conflict inside, she straightened her chest and feigned bravado, saying, "Who says I'm afraid?"
"Then why won't you look at me?"
As the Fox Man spoke, his face slowly leaned closer. Wenxin could almost distinctly feel the warmth of his breath brushing against her ear, sending a strange tingling sensation through her, causing her heart to flutter slightly.
Wenxin quickly turned her head away, insisting, "I'm not looking at you because you're ugly. I've seen ugly people, but I've never seen anyone as ugly as you!"
"Oh really? How about now? Am I still ugly?" The Fox Man chuckled lightly, then with a hint of mischief, he gently lifted Wenxin's chin.
As a young girl who had secretly read many romantic tales, Wenxin had to admit that the Fox Man's behavior—like that of a typical rogue teasing a respectable woman—sent a shiver down her spine. She felt her cheeks puff up in anger, ready to retort, but she was momentarily stunned by his breathtakingly handsome face.
She considered herself somewhat worldly; Zi Shao was famously handsome in the Five Realms. Yet the fox before her possessed a beauty entirely different from Zi Shao's.
If Zi Shao was known for his ethereal elegance, then this fox exuded an enchanting and vibrant allure. His eyes seemed to be dyed with the colors of spring—deep and captivating—making Wenxin's heart involuntarily skip a beat and a faint blush rise to her cheeks.
Ah, it seemed that most foxes were indeed stunningly beautiful; the ugliest one...
Married Zi Shao...
Sigh...
Wenxin couldn't help but let out an inward sigh for Zi Shao.
Meanwhile, a thousand miles away on Phoenix Mountain, Zi Shao and Qianmei both sneezed at the same time. They exchanged puzzled glances—who was talking about them?
"Did you eat those children?" Wenxin asked.
"No," the Fox Man replied.
"Wenxin" couldn't think of a reason for the "Fox Man" to appear in this cave; surely he wasn't just out for a stroll, her mind filled with confusion.
"I'm here to save someone," "Fox Man" shrugged helplessly. "I was rescued by a farmer's wife when I was injured, and her daughter has been captured by them."
"Wenxin" swallowed nervously and cautiously asked, "Who are they?"
Could it be that there is more than one monster in this cave?!
"Why don't you see for yourself? They've already arrived." As he spoke, "Fox Man" suddenly waved his sleeve, and the lantern in his hand transformed into countless others, all flying into the air, hovering motionless and illuminating the entire cave brightly.
At that moment, the cave was lit up by the lanterns, and "Wenxin" was astonished to find that the originally empty cave was now packed with people—no, not people, but monsters.
Instinctively, she stepped back behind "Fox Man," only to sense his mocking chuckle and feel a bit embarrassed. She took a small step back out into the open, her face flushing.
"Fox Man" exchanged a few words with the leading monster, but unexpectedly, after a disagreement, the monster swung two large axes and charged forward aggressively with a group of monsters.
In that moment of dodging, "Wenxin" couldn't help but nod in agreement internally; it turned out that what was written in the stories wasn't all lies. The ugly supporting characters often wielded heavy and hideous weapons. In contrast, "Fox Man," with his white sleeves flowing gracefully like a dance, exuded an extraordinary elegance.
Seeing that she had escaped the chaotic area and was about to return along her original path, she suddenly heard "Fox Man" shout behind her without any consideration: "Run! Go call the brothers outside!"
So—
If not for "Wenxin's" quick reflexes, her outstretched foot would have been nearly severed by a monster's axe. She trembled in fear and hurriedly jumped back to "Fox Man," her face filled with anger as she questioned him, "Why are you trying to set me up?"
But "Fox Man" seemed unconcerned and replied nonchalantly, "Little girl, this is fate; our meeting is destiny."
"Fate my foot! It's more like a cursed connection..." Just as "Wenxin" finished her sentence, she was suddenly swept up into the air by a powerful gust of wind. The murky air surged like a tidal wave, instantly engulfing her.
Panicking, she flailed her arms trying to grab onto something. Her fingertips accidentally brushed against smooth fabric; without thinking twice, she grasped it tightly. As a result, both the owner of the fabric and she were pulled into the tumultuous current together...
"What about them?" Yokai A's eyes widened as they stared at the empty space where the others had suddenly vanished, their mouth agape in shock.
"Idiot!" Yokai B raised a hand and slapped them, exasperated. "Isn't it obvious? That little girl from the Tianshan Sect must have used some kind of spell to escape!"
Meanwhile, Wenxin found herself engulfed in this strange and powerful current, feeling a tightness in her chest that made it hard to breathe. She struggled painfully against it.
Suddenly, a warm body pressed against her from behind.
"Little girl?" the Fox Man asked with difficulty, feeling an odd sensation wash over him.
If it weren't for his thousand years of cultivation protecting him, he might not have been able to withstand this almost suffocating pressure.
He reached around and embraced Wenxin from behind, noticing her distress. Gently, he turned her face towards him and slowly pressed his lips against hers.
In a daze, Wenxin seemed to see her master. He appeared no longer angry, instead kindly offering her candy. The candy had a faint sweet mint flavor that felt cool in her mouth. Taking a deep breath, she felt a refreshing sensation spread through her entire being.
Filled with joy, she instinctively wanted to take another deep breath. However, her tongue unexpectedly brushed against something soft and warm. Curious, she gently bit down to discern what it was, only to hear a muffled, ambiguous moan in response.
Wenxin's eyes flew open, and the first thing she saw was the Fox Man's enchanting face, almost devilish in its allure. As her gaze dropped lower, she suddenly realized that her mouth was…
So then, what had her tongue touched…?
