Among the remaining individuals, aside from Ying Zhan and Xu Qiaoshan, Gu Ping realized that he did not recognize anyone else. Bu Luo and Jie Donglai's Misalignment faction sought to ally with the Nine Nether Cultivators, yet there remained a clear distinction between them. The Nine Nether Cultivators subtly regarded Mu Qinglong as their leader, while over a dozen cultivators from the World of Mortals quietly positioned themselves behind Xu Qiaoshan.
Who didn't know about Ying Zhan's cold demeanor? He showed little interest in combat, making him unsuitable as a leader in the eyes of many. Thus, Xu Qiaoshan, known for being at the Peak of Nascent Soul, naturally became the leader by popular consensus.
Upon Gu Ping's arrival, all the cultivators from the World of Mortals secretly breathed a sigh of relief. In the lounge, only one Transcendence High Leg was present—Ying Zhan. Although Ye Youluo also held a similar status, Jie Donglai's Misalignment group had raised concerns about how much support they could truly provide. They hoped that Ye Youluo would step up to assist them.
While Qunqin Ping was indeed a Transcendent Practitioner, everyone had heard about the previous battle against Sima Wuduan. Xu Qiaoshan had witnessed it firsthand. Gu Ping had clashed with Transcendence High Legs twice; even if his cultivation level was not high, his strength was evident. No one objected to considering Gu Ping as a Transcendence High Leg.
Soon after, the groups were formed. Among those who entered, the number of Nine Nether Cultivators and World of Mortals cultivators was roughly equal. This suggested that Ye Youluo's hidden agenda had not interfered with the drawing of lots. Gu Ping understood that even if Ye Youluo intended to do something during the Sky East Tournament, it would likely be limited to initial stages.
When Teng Minqi entered as the first person, a gray-red scroll appeared before everyone, inscribed with their two tasks for this Misalignment stage.
The first task was quite cruel: each person had to eliminate at least one opponent and seize their ring to avoid being eliminated themselves. This meant that among the eighteen participants, at least half would have to be eliminated.
Jie Donglai's second task required them to snatch a special ring held by Mistake Leg; the side that succeeded in seizing it would win.
Completing the first task would result in half of them being eliminated, and finishing the second task could leave only ten or so remaining. What kind of ring could be considered special?
As everyone pondered this, ten Stewards from Universe Hall entered and began distributing rings to each participant. The rings resembled black iron circles and were placed on everyone's legs. When it was Gu Ping's turn, however, he received a sparkling crystal ring.
Gu Ping wondered what made this ring special and why it was given to him. He looked at the Steward in confusion.
The Steward smiled and said, "I am not a Golden Core Cultivator; I hold the lowest cultivation level in this lounge. This ensures that Misalignment does not lead to an overwhelming situation for one side. The crystal rings will be given to those with the highest cultivation levels on each side; otherwise, where would be the fun?"
Is that so?
While it might not be wrong to say that, the people in the lounge let out a sigh of relief. Among those outside, apart from Ye Youluo, even Ying Zhan probably lacked the confidence to claim they could easily defeat Gu Ping. This meant their chances of winning were slightly better.
Bu Luo
Gu Ping casually glanced at Ye Youluo, only to find her turning her head at that moment as well. Their eyes met briefly, but neither Bu Luo nor Gu Ping could decipher the thoughts behind the other's gaze. In that instant, Gu Ping felt a strange sense of similarity between them—one pair of eyes held a destined sorrow, while the other reflected a cold indifference.
Gu Ping thought about whether he should take the opportunity to eliminate Misalignment himself and force Ye Youluo to exit early. However, due to the Starlight Pen's influence, he dismissed this idea. Regardless of the situation with Light Path, Starlight Pen must not fail. If it fell into someone else's hands, given Yan Dong's circumstances with Light Path, finding it again would be nearly impossible. It would only serve as bait once more, causing Light Path to bleed out again. That would be an unwise choice.
Ye Youluo, on the other hand, considered whether she should take advantage of the opportunity to force Gu Ping to reveal his identity. However, doing so would certainly expose her to the risk of Jie Donglai's failure. For her, that was not worth the potential loss, so she decided against it.
At that moment, both of them simultaneously conceived plans but then dismissed their thoughts. They understood each other far too well and were confident in their own abilities. Crossing that Liquid Essence would reveal their true strengths.
