The recent heavy blow from Yi Dong made Gu Ping feel pain once again. The sensation of pain faded away as his soul reestablished its connection with his body, and now he could feel it clearly.
The tearing pain in his chest made Gu Ping break out in a cold sweat. He couldn't help but sigh internally, yet his left leg moved swiftly. He was surrounded by intricate beams of light, leaving no gaps larger than a forearm for the enemy.
At that moment, Gu Ping felt another wave of tearing pain, this time from his back.

Shadow Demons were born from the world itself; thus, no matter how many were killed, they could never be eradicated—unless there was no darkness left in existence. The birthplace of Shadow Demons was said to be the Ninth Underworld. Gu Ping felt uncertain if he truly faced a Shadow Demon now, knowing that whenever one appeared in the World of Mortals, all cultivators would unite to eliminate it without giving it any chance to grow stronger.
On the ground where Gu Ping had just stood, a mass of black gas began to rise. The mist slowly writhed until a figure resembling a person appeared before Gu Ping's eyes—he saw his own likeness.
Seeing such transformation from Extermination confirmed for Gu Ping that this was indeed a Shadow Demon. It could take on the appearance of any living being in this world; he remembered how Bu Luo and Buqi transformed but noted that the Shadow Demon's color remained black.
The Shadow Demon curled its lips into a smirk. By moonlight, Gu Ping could clearly see its face—or rather, his own face. Unlike Bu Luo's features, Gu Ping's eyes held no emotional color while those of the Shadow Demon radiated intense hostility.
No one could defeat themselves outside their own domain. The Shadow Demon realized that this flying human would not give it another chance for ambush; two successful sneak attacks must have severely injured it. Thus, this time, instead of fleeing, the Shadow Demon chose to stay and fight Dong Lai. Another reason for its decision was its clear perception of Gu Ping's cultivation level at Golden Core Stage—far below that of a Transcendent Practitioner. Therefore, it understood that all cultivators in this world shared similar principles and continued to believe in Ru Ming.
