Summer held a special significance for me, but when I asked Xiazhi about it, Gu Ping thought for a moment and chose not to pry. Everyone has their own secrets, and sometimes they remain unshared. Ah, summer.
After Xiazhi spoke, I expected Gu Ping to ask more questions, but instead, he sighed softly. Watching Gu Ping's eyes flicker with thoughts, I suddenly realized that summer might hold an unusual meaning for the person before me.
He had shared his ideals with me; I had expressed my desire for a life that aligned with those ideals. "What do you think?" Xiazhi asked, bringing Gu Ping back to the moment. The flicker of light in his eyes faded into an emotionless gaze, leaving me uncertain about which version of him was the real one.
He? Gu Ping confirmed Yi Dong's presence and pondered for a moment. He wished to live well, and for him, simply surviving was a significant challenge. To some people, his existence was like a loud slap in the face; they would find it particularly jarring. How could his ideals not be lofty?
For Gu Ping, just living another day meant enduring another blow from the Daoist Sect. Standing at the threshold of the Light Path Classic, he realized that initially benefiting from it was merely a matter of being an ordinary person. Regardless of how high the Daoist Sect soared, they could accept such occurrences. Yet, things had unfolded differently; Gu Ping had not perished but had instead been reborn from destruction, carrying two Dao Foundations with him. He had become a moving treasure trove, and with enough insight, Gu Ping believed that one day he would stand before the Daoist Sect and make those individuals pay for their actions.
There weren't many who could threaten me now; I was already formidable enough that no one from the younger generation would dare to challenge me.
Xiazhi covered her face and stifled a laugh. She didn't believe anyone could genuinely threaten Gu Ping; even if there were, they would likely be some old relics.
However, there was someone she had probably heard of before; she thought he must be quite formidable himself.
Gu Ping contemplated this and admitted that Chongguang was indeed powerful—his strength surpassed what any Golden Core Stage cultivator could comprehend. From the battle reports, it seemed that when Chongguang unleashed his full power, he could at least contend with Mid-Stage Nascent Soul cultivators. Gu Ping did not believe he could currently bridge two major stages to fight against a Mid-Stage Nascent Soul cultivator.
How could that be?
Xiazhi wanted to ask how it was possible for Coco to be so strong, but when she saw Gu Ping looking at her seriously, she held back her words and began to think deeply.
As soon as Gu Ping entered the Harmony Society at noon, he sensed something amiss. Besides Xiazhi, there were three members of the Light Path present—one of whom was Zhang Qian and another named Chong Lou. They seemed uninterested in engaging with Gu Ping too much.
Dinner is served.
In the steam room, the helpers of the Outer Court and the disciples began their meal. By the time the dishes arrived, several people had already drunk too much and were sprawled on nearby chairs, fast asleep.
Who are those people?
Huh?
Wen Tian said, "Ideal, Senior Sister, I haven't mentioned it much, have I?"
Those two...
"What are we talking about? Let's hurry up and eat," Qin Wenjun shouted loudly. It seemed he had also had his fair share to drink and was no longer concerned about jealousy.
Xiazhi smiled and said, "Let's go eat."
At the dining table of the Harmony Society, people chatted in small groups. However, after a while, they noticed that Senior Sister Gu Ping was missing. Zou frowned and remarked, "Where did our guest go? And Wen Shiren is also nowhere to be seen. Those two wouldn't..."
Gu Ping turned to Zhang Qian and asked, "Have you seen Senior Sister?"
"Senior Sister?" Zhang Qian adjusted his glasses habitually and replied, "Coco must have taken Wen Shixin Tuo to rest."
Hearing that, everyone became restless. How could the Senior Sister send Wen Shixin Tuo to rest? And if she said no to resting, where would she go? Everyone knew that Wen Shiren slept at Liuzhu Peak every day; there was nowhere else to stay.
All around, people exchanged glances, and without a word, they put down their bowls and cups and rushed toward Liuzhu Peak. Those who were more curious couldn't help but gossip about it.
Gu Ping shook his head and followed the crowd. Not long after, he noticed that everyone suddenly hid away—behind trees, into the grass—some even transformed themselves into rabbits. What was going on? Gu Ping was puzzled when Xiazhi pulled him aside into the grass.
"Shh."
Gu Ping followed Xiazhi's gaze and saw the Senior Sister holding onto Wen Shiren. To his surprise, they weren't heading toward Liuzhu Peak but rather toward the Outer Sect Disciple's quarters. Eastern Zhou looked a bit shocked, covering his mouth, unable to hide the surprise and envy in his eyes.
Once the Senior Sister was far away, Xiazhi explained, "That should be Wen Shixiong's original residence. But with so many people around, I guess everyone has forgotten about it. Senior Sister Bu Luo remembers it well; perhaps even Wen Shixiong himself has forgotten."
The Senior Sister must like Wen Shixiong too; how nice, haha.
Gu Ping thought of Mu Yu, then Yang Yan, and Pei Xiaoxiao. But those people were not by his side; he couldn't give them what they wanted. Now Gu Ping didn't even know if he felt safe anymore.
Was he envious? Some people certainly were.
